Hi guys,
Some of you may have seen I added some pictures of my car (from its For Sale Ad) in the New Members section the other day, so as promised i took some pictures of my own earlier today. 237miles done so far and loving it.. :happy2:
Standard spec:
2006 MKV Golf GTI, 17" Denver rims, Interlagos cloth, thats about it... :)
Plans are:
18" Monza II's or BBS CH's,
with H&R lowering springs,
Maybe some subtle mod's, not sure what as of yet, but no doubt you guys will be giving me ideas and making me spend my money.. lol

Lovely car Wayne, saw it on UsedcarsNI.
I'm looking at buying one in a few months.
I would have gone for this one, if I was able to buy one right now!
Was priced very well, and looks immaculate.
Health to drive!

Nice car pal :happy2:
-
Small up date guys, I've ordered a set of H&R Sport springs for the Golf, should lower it 30mm so that will take some of the height out of the arch gap I hope.
Should have the springs before the end of the week so i'll keep you posted... :)
Wayne
-
Lovely car matey, looking forward to seeing her slammed

Lovely Wayne.
You have the front number plate holder off and the grill smoothed? DIY job?
No sign of any Monza's yet?
Im still looking!
-
No it's just Photo Shopped in my signature picture.. Sorry! :scared:
-
Well i got the H&R 30mm Sport springs fitted last night and i have to say i'm very happy with them, the car dropped about 20/25mm straight away and i was told once they settle, they might drop a little bit more. Very happy with the handling and comfort they give.
A few pictures for an idea or before and afters.
Before

Also on my travels i picked up a set of 18" BBS CH rep's. I wanted to wait on the springs to get fitted before i fitted the wheels, so 18 hours later the wheels where fitted... :pomppomp:

-
Looks really nice Wayne! Did you fit the springs yourself? Are you having tracking and geometry checked now its been lowered?
-
Looks very nice, like the GTI should have looked straight out of the box :happy2:
-
Looks superb!
Metro font plate also sets it off nicely :happy2:
-
Cheers guys, really happy with how it looks.
Tuffy: i got a mate who works with cars to lower it, i'll book it in this Saturday to get its four wheel allignment set. Its seems fine on the road, but i'll get it done just to be on the safe side.
-
Just noticed your update Wayne- the car is incredible looking! Its amazing how 2 changes can make such a difference.
-
Looks cracking m8 :congrats:
Just fitted a set of these to mine today with the red centre caps! Where did you get your set from? what offset are yours?
-
Great looking car chap! :congrats: :congrats:
-
Hi Mate, bit off topic but just seen on another forum someone with those wheels. Anyway long story short after some warranty work by the dealer, the car came back with the colour from the centre caps destroyed. No dealer was mentioned and im not sure if im allowed post a link to another forum on here but just wanted to say if you are getting any work done by any dealer, it might be an idea to ask them not to clean or wash your car.
Ps. Car looks unreal :happy2:
-
lookin nice there dude :happy2:
-
Hi Wayne,
Looking GOOD!!!! How does the ride compare with the H&R's on?
-
Hi guys, sorry i havent been on here in ages... :ashamed:
Lyons, you big girl... lol
strapper, i got the centres with the wheels from AutoAlloys in Northern Ireland. I'm sure you can get them on ebay.
Culainn, cheers for the advice, i'll keep it in mind mate.
Gti Jal, the ride is no different at all, which i'm surprised and gald to say. I use the car on a day to day basis and last thing i wanted was a harsh ride quality and the car being unable to be enjoyed for what it is. I'd highly reccommend the H&R's, they lowered the car nicely and retail all the handling and comfort of the standard springs.
Golf is still going grate for me and i'm still loving it, been to a few shows over the last month or two, with some pictures to show you all...

And finally the car looking not so clean at a local Northern Ireland GTI meet.

Thats cos dealers use acid on the wheels to clean them really quick same with most car washes, doubt ud use them but just incase just a bit of advice....
Cars looking great :happy2:

Been a while since i updated the Golfs progress, probably casue not alot has changed in the last 5 months. I got it fully serviced at a local VW dealer back in August, and thats been it bar a few small changes.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb1%2Fwayne_douglas%2FDSC03710.jpg&hash=b50b80aa605a1dfe779ff3bf487fa1aee1ac88a2)
First up was the fitting of a Ipod connection to the head unit, not the easyest of jobs to do, and you could easily break something if you jumped into it pulling the dash apart. But I managed to get all apart and back together without breaking anything. The VW booklet suggested you ran the lead to the glove box, but i decided to run it into the empty tray beneath the heater controls.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb1%2Fwayne_douglas%2FDSC03716.jpg&hash=962395b5f8676b9cbe5eb3a06cd2cb74433ed69c)
Next up i've been playing around with changing the front VW badge Black, but i'm undecided weather i like it black or not, so in the end i decided to leave the VW silver and change the GTI to red with a silver lip.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb1%2Fwayne_douglas%2FDSC03744.jpg&hash=b6583766a8462bb4822258fd3fd0e86f601337c8)
Last on the list was to remove the rear wiper, probably not the best time of year to do this mod with winter coming in, but i've been thinking of it for ages and finally got round to it last weekend.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb1%2Fwayne_douglas%2FDSC03742.jpg&hash=e3c311cbd6d89e233788d11bdbc67bdda247e95b)

Few more small updates coming soon i hope, i'll keep you posted as i get them.

The rims and stance look the business Wayne :happy2:
I've just never understood the removal of the rear wiper mod?
I hope you still check your rear view mirror when it rains
-
Rear view mirror ???? whats that ??? lol only joking.. :happy2:
Thanks for your comments rdfcpete, i've had the car 6 months now and i still love it..
-
looking good mate
small changes look good
how much was the ipod connection and was it difficult to fit?
-
Thanks Liver,
The ipod Lead from VW costs £92, its ok to fit, but just be careful, there are a few hidden screws and clips that could be easily broken if you dont know where they are, i did a search on line and it gave step by step guids how to remove the dash parts. Only other awkward part is you need to connect and wire into the existing wiring connection socket. Again, just take your time and you'll manage it.

R32 rear lights arrived in the post today thanks to davo01 of here, cheers for posting them and packing them up so well mate. :happy2:
Hope to have the rear lights fitted for this weekend, as myself and a mate with a red A3 on CH's are getting some pictures taken of our cars together.
Wish me luck... :driver:

Small update today, i've sprayed my front VW badge matt black and i'm happy with how it fits in with the red GTI lettering.

I do like the red/black colour combo. Have you considered doing the wheels in black, leaving centre caps red?
-
Passed you on the Moira Rd today :driver:. Looked absolutely immaculate, and new front badges really set it apart.
H&R's really are a big improvement visually, hope to put them in my own at some stage next year.
Really liking how yours is taking shape.
-
Thanks for ther comments guys.

I'm not a big fan of black wheels on cars, so i'll be leaving mine alone for now.

Sorry mate, i didn't see you. Where you in a Red MK5 Gti ? Think i spotted one, looked very clean if it was you.
H&Rs are a great spring if your thinking of getting them, ride quality hasn't been effected at all. your welcome to see mine if you wanted.
A friend who takes some pictures for a few sites offered to take some propper shots of our cars the other day, so we jumped at the chance.
The A3 is a 2.0 Tdi S Line, lowered on H&R springs and a few subitle changes.
Enjoy:
