Title: New battery time!!
Post by: slipd on November 03, 2021, 09:31:41 pm
Hi guys,

With winter upon us, I've noticed over the past week, a slight hesitation when turning the key first thing... I missed out on it last year, working from home but now we're "back to normal", and I'm at the office most days, I think its time for a new battery.

I've got my eye on a Varta Silver E44 096 which appears compatible on several online outlets but, and most interestingly, isn't listed as compatible on the Varta UK website?

I've got a 2007 1.6 FSi.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Varta E44 is the one I have used before. On my second now.

Thanks mate!

New battery arrives tomorrow, is there anything I should be aware of off? I've never changed a batt on a mk5. My mk3's were all really straight forward but I'm sure I've heard horror stories with the 5/6's regarding window relays, alarm issues etc.

I don't think so. Should be a simple swap and go

I would wait around an hour before putting the new one in to let all the capacitors discharge.  I don't know if it affects all cars, but if I don't do that in mine, sometimes the C/L and windows don't work at all on the passenger side.

Once the battery is in, you just need to relearn the one-touch windows (hold the switch down for 10 seconds after it's bottomed out, and also when it's fully closed) and the steering should relearn itself just by driving it.  Radio memory holds but MFA data will be reset, engine ECU will need some miles to relearn etc also but there won't be any horrors.
