Title: Rear door skin removal
Post by: Lewo on July 25, 2022, 04:45:06 pm
How do you remove the 2 torx by the hinges?
I was going to size up using a spanner on a bit holder but it seems in between sizes.
Probably an obvious answer that's eluding me lol.
Only around 50 mm gap or so?
I used to have a small adjustable but it's lost, but also wonder if there would be too much 'play' for a small 5-6 mm size?
Cheers.

I've always put a torx bit on a small extension and you can get to them easily.

Ok cheers.
Looked at a YT vid and the guy had a 10mm shank t30 bit so I've ordered on of those to use with a spanner as another option to what you've done.

When taking the door skin off be careful about the door handle bracket. (Inside the door skin) It tends to spring open and fall all over the ground… and once you put the door bracket back on with the door skin the next issue is the barrel bracket. A nightmare to refit… the support bracket falls off the door handle bracket if you over screw/under screw it and you need to start again.

Mate, I had a mare with the drivers door one last year sometime when I forgot to put the 20t in behind the handle and took ages to get the handle off on the 2nd attempt...   :rolleye:

Am I right assuming door skin is what is commonly known as the door card?

Could you share the YT vid you have?

I've got to do this on my rear to change a slightly rusty trim piece and to do some investigation on a little mould spot that has appeared

Oh, why does that need removing? I'm just going to be doing the door card for the moment.

It doesn't if you are replacing the door trim but you asked me to link the vid.

Haha yes I did ask as I read in another thread that to change some of the trim I'd need to remove the skin but I had assumed that was door card.

By removing the skin what does it give you access to that the door card doesn't? I thought it'd be like my previous car where the metal panel with the speaker etc was just.bolted onto the door frame and easily removable...
