Will be fitting my cruise control stalk at the weekend.
Just need to no what size the spline/torx bit will be requiered for removing the steering wheel.
cheers martin.

Think it is a multispline M11.
Got a selection of these in a kit and its the biggest in the bunch...
If you are local to Leeds no probs if you want to borrow.
BTW recommended that the bolt is only used (re used) five times. Each time the bolt is removed you are supposed to mark it with a punch...

Thanks for the offer fella. Think am going to invest in a set of then multi spline sets, as there is a few times when Ive needed one.
Ive read about marking the head of the bolt every time its been removed. thanks for the info :happy2:

You are also going to need a bl@@dy big bar/torque wrench and a good strong m8.
The bolt is in really tight and can be axpua to remove. Found it much easier when neighbour held wheel still while I unbolted.
Wouldn't like to test the steering wheel lock!!!
50Nm torque setting. For the refit.

I can imagine it been very tight, Ive got a suitable breaker bar and torque wrench. will be making sure the steering lock is off wouldn't want to damage that.
thanks for the torque setting.
would you no what tool is used for removing the slip ring?
-
Think the slip ring just falls off (hope I am thinking of the correct bit).
You have to be careful with the alignment. Maked mine with a pen & took a photo.
The SW controler is a bit of a PIA. Secret latch inside used a bit of earth wire inthe little hole behind the small screw.
The rest clips off front & rear.
Have to ask, what are you doing?

Will be fitting a cruise control stalk m8.

Oops should re read the op.
You will need to remove the controller to get the stalk/ switch in/out.
How old is the car? Early pre 06 will need the wire installing too.
You will also need vagcom to code the sw & engine.
Any probs email me.
Did mine a few months back. Took a few hrs but could do it so much quicker & easier after doing it once.

Jan 07 ed30 with mfsw.
it was the control that i was wondering what people used to remove it.
just going to get the stalk installed first, then going to find someone local to me to code it.
mite even buy vagcom and have a go at coding it my self. as there is a few other things i want doing that will require vagcom.

You'll also need a tiny (think its an 8mm spline to remove steering controller) I have 4 or 5 sets of spline sockets and none of them had one small enough, ended up getting it open with a tiny flat screwdriver as it fitted the slot perfectly thank god!!
Best of luck with the job, I done it a few weeks ago, bit tricky but take your time and you'll be fine!
