Get the genuine stuff from TPS/dealer.

More expensive but works the best

Called up vw and they wanted 55£ for one bottle and I need 3 so I have gone with Rock oil 75w90 as I also asked darkside and it was the only option they had apart from genuine, will probably replace soon with original but for now it’ll do

Won't doing this just cost more than if you bought genuine in the first place?

of course it will but when I have had to fork out for another gearbox, dmf and clutch I’m sure it’ll be fine for now

Obviously too late now but last two times I've bought the genuine oil and filter from Ebay and saved quite a bit.

I was struggling to find the right one as I have 4motion which also takes more oil I will say I have not heard of rock oil till now so when the cars back on the road I’ll say if cold shifts ect are good

The genuine oil is super thin, designed to improve cold shifts, and it is the best stuff for that without question.  However, it's not that cold the UK and with an older box with loads of miles on it, you can get away with aftermarket stuff. Redline gear oils work really well but they're not cheap either!

after doing around 200 miles with the second hand gearbox and new dmf + clutch, it is a good drive and shifts perfect neighbour did me a good price to fit it all and was done in a day new box is on 83k, rock oil is made in uk and meets requirements I’m hoping maybe it will be designed more for our weather but will try a more recommended or genuine oil in near future
