Title: Odd boost issue?
Post by: jamesh72 on May 13, 2010, 07:29:34 am
Hello,
I've had my standard ED30 since Feb.
A couple of times now, I've been driving it, and it seems quite a bit slower than at other times, with the same kind of throttle openings, revs and mph.
It was quite obvious yesterday morning, when it was freezing cold. Drove to work, felt as slow as the mondeo diesel we have.
It got a bit better as I neared the end of my journey (about 20miles).

Felt fine on the way home, so I was wondering if its temperature related.

Does it limit boost until the engine is warmed thru? Or is something amiss?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi James,

What age/miles is your car?
There are a few common problems on ED30's that can effect performance.

where are you located?
You really need someone with VCDS (theres a list on this forum of who has it) and a laptop to check your car for fault codes and maybe even do some logging of some parameters.
This gives you a good starting point.

one common issue for lost performance is the Diverter Valve which is easily replaced on the ED30 (around £50) but you need the fault codes/logs first, as there are a number of other possibilities too  :happy2:

I assume you run it on high octane fuel as well?

Either that or take it to a respected dealer/tuner. Let us know your rough location and we can suggest good places to go  :happy2:

Hi John,
thanks for the tips.

Its a 07 car with 42k on the clock. I only run it on super.

I'm in West Sussex nr Horsham, but since the car is under warranty, I may just take it to the dealer.

Cheers,
James.

What type of 'super'?  Sainsburys or BP super is not up to the job.  You need a minimum of 98RON, and only Tesco 99 or Shell V-Power fit the bill.

I usually run it on Tesco 99, but it does occasionally have to have normal 'super', esso and the like.

However, this is happening in during the same tank of fuel as when its running OK. It was mostly fine today.

I'll get it booked in. Praps the Diverter valve is sticking or on its way out.

Damn and blast - its booked in at the dealer, and they can't find anything wrong with it. Which is not surprising, as its been fine the last week or so. Typical.
They're keeping it overnight to see if it does it when cold (trouble is, its not been cold in the mornings for about a week)...
