Hi All,
Am wanting to try put together a list of items needed to upgrade the power on my GTi, the ~250bhp just isnt enough for me and im really missing having more power.
Can people let me know whats needed to get more power, presumably the best and easiest route is to go down the KKK 04 turbo route?
The other thing, i know people say the Ed30 has a stronger bottom end etc, but what is the standard GTi lump safe to handle?
So based on that i'll assume i need the following:
KKK04 Turbo
Injectors - S3 or Ed30
Is a new EM required for the KKK04 or will it fit the standard manifold?
Intake modified
Better IC
Uprated HPFP
What else is worth doing or needs doing as i want to try start collecting bits.
With this kind of setup i assume this will then start knocking on the door of low to mid 300 bhp

Thats what you need to go from K03 to K04 :happy2:
You would benefit from a better IC S3 cooler is ideal.
You will also need a K04 CAI of some description.
With all that you would be looking around 320ish bhp and 300+ lb/ft

You would be looking at around £2500-2800 fitted if you bought all new parts.
You could knock around £1k off that if you can pick up a good second hand turbo for around £500

k04 power and delivery is also way better than k03, altyhough id say from my experience that the k04 converted cars dont seem as strong as the k04 engines, but who cares, you'll still be gaining 40Hp+ over the maximum you'll get on a k03 car at stage 2+

it might work out cheaper to buy a second ed30/cupra/s3 engine for 1500 quid, and then sell your engine to claw back that cash, then the mods themselves will be pretty much paid for.
this will give you stronger internals, a lower compression ratio etc

monk on here was selling his with all the mods reqd for stage 2+ including the remapped ecu. not sure if he sold it?? maybe PM him, alternately you need to go on ebay and the net for VAg dismantlers and nreakers yards

I was following his FS thread of that engine and the ebay auctions but the thread on here has gone and its no longer listed on ebay so it might be sold now. I was wanting to see if it went down in price much more or not

Statllers can do engine swaps and they already have around 3 or 3 ED30/S3/TT-S engines.
I think they charge around £3 to £3.5k including GIAC software, fuel pump etc.

even if it only saves you300-500. it still saves you the hassle of selling the engine yourself

for 2-3k for an ed30 engine. You might aswell sell your car and that would be the cost of a car change. Then you'll have the full styling on the ed30 and not just under the bonnet.
if it were my money, that'll be what id do personally.

i was jus running this through my mind steve and was jus thinkin the same..... coz i like the ed30 interior..... but there agen s3's rock n eat most cars lol

hmm an ed30 styled vRS :grin:
thing is with that 3k that is including software, exhaust, intake, HPFP i think so its not so bad. £1500 of that price is for tuning mods

Thats exactly the thought process I went through many moons ago Steve, was lookin at K04in my regular GTI, when I did the sums there wasn't much in it to change to a new ED30 :smiley:

your lucky you didnt samle the pooowwwwwwweeeeeeeer or lack there of :grin: its a shame the ko4 engine isnt available with the vRS. would be the perfect car for me then

The normal GTI engine is fairly strong anyway. Conversion has done 600 miles a week since October and still running sweet. I got a good used KO4 turbo and injectors 11k on them for £600 . On the road my car is as fast as my mates Revo stage 2+ Cupra. It's neck and neck. I do have a spare S3 engine in the garage i got cheap but it's really not worth the hassle of changing it over.

Just the block. The injectors are still in it though. I'm keeping the block though just in case.
