Title: The Golf goes tomorrow :-(
Post by: 182_blue on June 11, 2010, 07:47:34 pm
Well, after a good 2+ years service the golf goes, been looking for ages and in the end it was between the Golf R or the Scirocco R, After trying both i settled on the below, the Golf has be very good and is very rapid and it will be missed.

Forgive the pictures as the car was in the showroom, in the end i dropped onto this one at just the right time and at a proper price.

good choice my man.  definately the best of the two in the looks dept.

wil you mod it, or leave it stock.  if so you potentially could run into issues.  all the guys with 2010 octavia vRS's on briskoda require their ECU to be removed for mapping, cos VW have put an encryption on that means mapping via he OBD port isnt possible until someone breaks the code.

Revo Carl has already said (to me anyway) the Roc R uses the older MED 9 ECU so has no problem with this encryption thing.

so remap away if you wish!

Is yours a manual or DSG?

yeah same engine as the S3 so 300 ponies easy with remap.

i'm holding off for a bit longer till someone tests how strong the OEM clutch is on the manual with a remap.

I am not going to knock manuals at all, but i reckon DSG will suite me more these days, plus when im escaping from lights im less likely to fluff the change with an auto

Very nice Shaun, I got the impression you were on the verge of a change from a recent post or two.

You'll love the DSG, I am definatley getting a DSG next.  Talked my Bro into getting DSG on his Leon and he loves it too - like you say, nothing wrong with manual but the DSG just rocks.

What made you choose this over the Golf then? Just out of interest

Shaun hope you have cruise control on it from factory,  cos if its a 2010 build after week 45 you cannot retro fit it  but you do the dial sweep on start up like I did with DaveB 's Rocco :happy2:

I suppose a few things made me pick the roccoc, I did like the golf R , it was very nice, but to get a decent spec the cost was hideous, the rocco felt quicker and sounded brilliant, plus the new golf is possilby out in 2012 so didn't want to be out of date so quick, and this one just worked out right too, I got a good deal and held out for better money on the ed30 so all in I'm quite happy with the deal.

hmm, I have no idea what build it is, can I tell by how old it is as to what week it is?, if I'm honest I don't know if it had cruise as it's not something I ever used on the golf, out of interest hoe come it can't be added !?

Looking great,

I'd put on the back burner my R front bumper......might need to revisit that now

without getting shot down in flames the rocco is golf +10% in nearly everything, looks, spec, fun, handling

Only downside is visibility outside and boot space.

Mt wife thinks im getting old as when I drive past a pretty girl I used to have a sneaky look over my shoulder inthe golf, now I just dont bother as you cant see her out of the letterbox side windows anyway!!

I'd definetely recommend the H&R -35mm lowering kit, it transforms the handling and works well with the ACC and moves all the settings down a notch so you need to be in comfort to get standard if you get my meaning.

in fact looking at it you can see its not a TSI,  that airbox is just like the TFSI, the TSI has a seperate intake pipe that goes around the back.

:happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:, my thoughts too, on all counts, white on the rocco just doesnt do it for me, plus every one i see is white or blue, Silver in the sun on the R just blows me away

i dont think anyone is disputing what it is, but lets be honest when the edition 30 was new how much was it, comparing a new car too one thats 3 years old on a price comparison just doesnt make sense to me

Rocco's all Mk6 really, all rocc's get alloy rear S3 hubs, adaptive chassis control on all but the povvy spec 1.4, highline on all GT specs, privacy glass.

The 2010 Rocc's got a new interior thats all bu the same as the Mk6 and also got the new RNS freindly climate controlsa and white dials that do the morning dance

yeh the sound is very nice, not sure how many boxes the exhaust has ?, or if its the two huge tailpipes that makes it better, but it does pop and burble nicely
