Hey folks,
I posted a few times on here last week, but just like to say, im now the owner of a Golf GTI!
Picked it up today;
Black, 2005, DSG, FSH, 37k, traded my Ibiza Cupra in for it, it's a lovely car! Absolutely love it.
Great price also!
Im not too clued up on the extras though! And on the way home me and my brother were worrying as a light came on the dash... We spent ages trying to work it out, only to find there was a button next to the ESP to turn it off lol, it is the tyre pressure sensor! (Do all 4 tyres have this?) And should I switch it on or off?
As you can see it has the 6 CD changer and armrest, not sure if they are standard with GTI's or not.
It is DSG but no steering paddles or cruise control... Are steering DSG paddles easily fitted?
In terms of mods planned, I would say the first is to sort out the sounds! I have an alpine bluetooth / iPod headunit from my last car, but not sure if I am going to fit that, I might just get the VW iPod connector and a bluetooth kit for phone, I know the sound system doesn't sound great ( I think its the 10 speaker system) so may have to look at improving the speakers or maybe a small sub to take the bass away from the standard speakers.

the TPS moniters the rolling radius of all 4 tyres, so when one wheel deflates to a certain point, it will ping up on the dash, check all your pressures, then press and hold the TPS button and i will reset it to monitor your new pressures

I haven't got the blue tints even though it's an 05, the thing I miss most is the MFSW!
I have DSG but as the paddles aren't there, I've read on here its a big job to get a MFSW in and working so might skip that idea!
Going to sort a cambelt / water pump & DSG oil service out asap, and to be honest, will probably ask for an oil change to be done, dealer says it was serviced a few weeks ago, but will change it for the sake of it (and possibly spark plugs / air, fuel & pollen filter).

Looks very nice. Armrest was not standard and neither was the 6cd changer. Surprised you haven't got blue tints :stupid:

the TPS moniters the rolling radius of all 4 tyres, so when one wheel deflates to a certain point, it will ping up on the dash, check all your pressures, then press and hold the TPS button and i will reset it to monitor your new pressures
Altho in all fairness, unless you have a blow out or something then its a waste of time.
Checked my tyres the other day and one was down to 17 PSI, presumably it didnt measure any difference due to the stiff sidewalls maintaing the tyre shape. So i would just ignore it being there for anything useful

Looks nice, I've just bought the almost exact same model. I believe the paddles where an extra on the earlier models but standard on the later MK5's. I personally wouldn't bother getting the paddles for one its not going to be easy or cheap, but I personally mainly use the stick to shift in manual as that's always in the same place, unlike the paddles.

Ahhh that would explain it, to be fair i've driven (only once!) an Audi S4 with DSG and I used the steering wheel paddle shifts for a few minutes, then got bored! Not something I'd use on a regular occasion - but I can see the reason why a lot of people love having them.
The main thing was the MFSW for the volume controls, but maybe if I get cruise control retro-fitted I may look for a MFSW...If it's not too big a job for them to do.

Interesting that one. I had slow flat on the front right and it pinged for me. Not good it didn't ping at 17psi though, I would have thought that would have been enough of a drop to trigger it.

In terms of sounds, the weakest link you have right now is the HU. I swaped my RCD stereo out for an OEM nav unit and the difference in sound quality was night and day. I'm not saying the standard speaker set up is fantastic, and if you are an audiophile you will want to change them, but the standard speakers are a lot better than the RCD stereo's let them be.

£9500 is what I paid, but bear in mind it had 1 key, and the owners manuals / folder didn't come with it! (Service book did with FSH).
So I need to get the books and another key.
I have an Alpine HU CDE-BT103 which is a bluetooth/iPod head unit, but im going to upgrade it to the BT114i as it has bluetooth streaming (so my sat nav on iPhone will come through the speakers interupting music when a turn is needed).
I did think about getting, say, the RCD510 as I do like the OEM look, but it would then cost, say, £300ish for that HU, then i'd have to somehow find a way to get that to work with iPod (or ditch it and go for an SD card which I prob would) but then i'd still have the issue of not being able to bluetooth phone.
Perhaps a cheap parrot kit @ £130 or so, so that would be £450 in total or similar.
With the Alpine, I just need the fascia @ £20, canbus adaptor @ £50, aerial adaptor @ £10
Although both ways I suspect i'd still need something for the bass... I agree with you the standard speakers are probably good enough, but they can't handle bass, so I guess i'd need a small sub/amp fitted (£180 ish).

Hey all! Turns out I was wrong, it does have blue tinted windows! Just harder to see in the sunlight! But when it was a bit misty yesterday morning, could definately see the blue tints!!!
Question though, noticed on some GTI's the middle wheel in the climate control area (the one you control the fan speed with) some of them have 'DUAL' written on the bottom half of the knob, mine doesn't?
Assuming that means I don't have dual zone climate control? Yet I do have the individual temperature displays either side?
Going to attempt to fit my new Alpine CDE-114BTI & SWE-1000 small amp/subwoofer at the weekend...! Bought all the radio adaptor and can-bus adaptor so hoping it's not too much of a hassle to install!

here is a guide for your radio fitting the only difference is you have the vents at the top,,the sensons and the little wheel for the heater just clips out and the grill just pull out then follow this link

iPod into glovebox will be easy... Microphone from radio (for bluetooth) maybe easy-ish, is the driver side A-Pillar trim removable or will I set off the air bag if I try and remove it?
Then the hardest part of all... Wiring the rca & power cables through to the boot from the front of the car! Thats the part I dread most!!!

A pillar is easy to remove, remove the plastic airbag cover, undo the torx screw behind it and then remove the A pillar trim, be gentle with it and you wont affect the airbag

You do have the dual control, I have an early one and it doesn't have this button either...
You can adjust each side individually, but if you hold down 'auto' for a few seconds it will synchronise both sides to the same temp and then when the driver adjust his temp the passenger one will change with it, until the passenger makes their own adjustment...
I'm not sure what the 'dual' button does?

Hey guys thanks as always, and thanks for the a-pillar removal trick also, will use that tommorow.
Just bought a trim-removal tool from Halfords (the laser 10in1 type) so hopefully that will help.
Cruise control potentially coming next, local VW dealer quoted £160 including everything (mines an 05 so probably needs the extra wire) & a 2 year warranty.
Im also tempted re MFSW...
I have a DSG, but don't have the paddles, I am half tempted to look at getting a DSG MFSW I will check my controller number, suspect i'd probably need to change it, along with the slip ring & airbag.
MK6 DSG wheels look pretty nice...
Is that it though, are there no extra wires to run to the stereo to control the MFSW?
