<3 Overclockers, I've bought from them for almost 8 years now.

We build machines at work for clients, when your son had decided on a spec post it up here and we'll tell you any tweeks you can make to improve it!

Here you go http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1036
Or you could buy him a second hand gti :signLOL:

That's way overpriced. I reckon I could build a similarly spec'd or more powerful rig for £2k.

Used to play CSS religiously and had a decent system. All outdated of course now but you should be able to get something decent for the budget.
Like someone else said post up the spec and we can suggest alternatives or upgrades.

www.cclonline.co.uk
Are also good suppliers...

well get rid of norton straight away waste of money. I will look over the rest later as it will be quieter at work
novatech is a good company but can be over priced.
My 1st impression is you can do better for the price,
Are you still ok with the 1k price or we sticking to the £812?

My recommendation is:
http://www.wired2fire.co.uk/build.php?systype=2&fsb=16 (http://www.wired2fire.co.uk/build.php?systype=2&fsb=16)
Customise away...the base unit is a very good on its own.

i couldn't decide what the best spec to go for, we spec'd the system as a base, in that in the future you would be able to add the 2nd gpu and maybe an SSD. We haven't included a optical drive as id probably stick the one out of the old machine into it until games need blueray and then buy a blueray drive?
Comments to the above system, needs a 2nd GPU, get rid of norton and if you have the cash splash for the i7, although there isnt much thats going to be using it now in the future you will be better off with an i7 than an i5.
My system came to £945.00

:notworthy:ill keep you posted. :notworthy: :congrats:

x2 with Edd666999 get rid of Norton and please please please don't get an i5! i5 is basically a crippled i7 and there's absolutely no point getting one for a gamer PC! I have an i7 920 and it can be overclocked very nicely and is more than enough for all games. I'd also get more than 4GB of RAM, I'd say 6GB is the minimum for decent gaming and there really isn't much cost difference.
Second GPU is nice but not essential IMO.

The 2nd gpu is an upgrade imo, in say 2years games start comming out that can use 8threads, and need a blueray drive he wont have to spend another 1k on a new machine, just speand £40 on a drive and £200 on a 2nd graphics card and he has a new machine. If he wen down the over clocking route that ram and cpu love it haha
-
You'll need a 64Bit Operating System if your going for more than 4GB RAM, Windows 7 preferably..
-
@Edd, I wonder if it's even worth buying an optical drive these days :rolleye: with Steam I just download all my games now... haven't actually put a CD in since the Win7 install!

Yep, sorry, that was a given. 64-bit ftw.
-
For 40 quid... I would be safe then sorry on the off chance when I need one.

i would stick the one out of the old machine into it.
and wait for blueray to drop in price.
if i had a bit more cash a 64gb SSD and blueray would be on the cards
-
what did you do in the end?
-
thanks again guys.
its been alot of help, but if any of you are aware of the idiocincrysis of dealing with a 17yr old you will already knownuffink has been done yet lol
