Always wanted to do a poll :happy2:
Before I paint up the R32 brakes I was thinking I could do them a different colour, the problem it the GTI is known for the red hint so this is the obvious colour - but what about others, yellow maybe?
What do you think...?
Also I hear hammerite it the best paint to use, any comments? Should I look at paint removed first to remove the blue?
-
before painting i would give them a quick rub down just so its good for the paint to grip to :happy2: as for colour y not black maybe
-
and then paint the clip red ... for that little GTI touch...
I thought about black but not convinced. These would be running behind BBC CH's
-
i voted yellow,
id go with red
-
i would paint them black and then go to audi and get the little cover that the s3 has on its brakes that say s3 on them and paint them up and get a gti logo for them :happy2: it would look 8) if you ask me
-
Hammerite is fine if your going to brush them

I thought about this  , the covers/clips are £20 each mind you for the S3 one's - not black mind you red, with black clip and red GTI badge
-
Red! You know it makes sense!

do that :happy2: or paint them red but use the s3 clip with the gti badge
-
Ditto - red & modded S3 clip FTW!
-
White, if you've got the patience to keep them clean would look metal.
-
Red with modded S3 clips 8) 8) all the way :happy2:

I've contemplated this before...still haven't made up my mind!
-
yellow calipers on a back car :happy2:
the S3 clip sounds good too
-
dunno bout yellow with the black, would have to see it but doesnt appeal. i'd be in favour of red detail but not totally red, main colour (i like the blue but for the sake of the thread...) how about a deep silver or a pearl black. loving the idea of white, total nightmare though
-
im doing mine white soon! ;) there red at the moment
-
Righto oh, Red it is. I like Yellow and I think on a black car would be nice but with the GTI having the hint of red already I think it has to be red.
You could change the front lip to match the calipers but this is moving away from the GTI look - now JPC with his white lip with white calipers would be well suited - probably no harder that red to keep clean if you get a good base down.
-
exactly, if its a good paint job, they shouldnt be too hard to keep clean! ;) red does look goooood but i just wanna match my front lip

I'd have considered gold.
-
I think I've got a can of caliper paint in red. If you want it I'll dig it out and you can have it for free at the Pod. Full tin too (unless I've chucked it!) :rolleye:
-
I got mine powder coated, you can seperate the caliper from the mount to make it neater for painting.I rubbed them down with wire wool after cleaning them, split them and hand painted 1st with halfrauds brake caliper paint. I wasn't happy with the finish so sent to the p/coaters.
How about Silver? look good on the ones i have just done for my mk2.

So you split the caliper? might give that a go.
In fact I have to work out how to dissasemble the complete unit yet - how does the carrier come away from the caliper?
Hurdy, yeh- that would be handy - very nice of you chap!
-
In the first pic you undo the 4 big torq screws, they were a real swine to get off.
this bit houses the piston, the carriers were easy enough I even painted the pin that holds the brake pads in, did the heat res silver.
-
ye those four big ones are a pain. there t55 i think as well so youll need a good half inch torque spanner and to get a t55 bit from somewhere
-
i would go for yellow or white :rolleye:
Here is a picture of the yellow on R32 brakes with matching yellow stripe from i meet i was at on sunday

That would look the bollocks if you got it right. There was a Volkswagen/APR project car in America that had the calipers painted in the yellow, red and black of the German flag :rolleye:
-
you think white would look ok?
-
I'd be slightly worried about white discolouring with the heat and going cream/yellow.

-
mike, i hear your concerns. but white hammerite, i cant see it being affected anymore than red, especially with 2 coats!
you know how the mk4 anni brake paint faded? as soon as i bought my anni, i repainted them with red hammerite, and it still looks bright red today. that was 2 years ago.
So if i have to recoat the r32 in white in 18months - 2 years i dont mind.
-
Fair point indeed, even if they wanted repainting every 12 months - it's hardly a pain in the big scheme of things!
I think it'll look ace too.
-
yep, im hoping so. im going to order the s3 brake clips too
-
Yeah im liking the white idea Jay, you can paint mine at the same time :happy2:
-
yep, im hoping so. im going to order the s3 brake clips too
stole my idea :P it should look good
-
Need to see this to be sure but the modded S3 clip thingy sounds good.
White would be ace but definatly needs the paitence to keep them looking cool.......
-
i did ponder buying the s3 clips when i got the brakes, but that was wen i spending mega dollar before i bought the car, and £30 each clip, seemed steep. it still does but i want them! ;)
and tom.....£30/hour! ;) oh and pay back your tank of fuel from blackpool
YOU'RE A BUM!!!!
-
oh and tom, you gotta take your sh1tty audi alloys back home or there going on ebay! haha!!
oh and by the looks of it, the inside of one of the tyres is nearly bald, you better get your tracking done asap, it will ruin your new 19"s.
the guys at ATS near my work are very very good. they charge about £30 for an alignment.
-
i painted mine blue :)
