So as you may have seen on my other thread I have the car today and installed sat nav !
decided to do a quick check over on the car while i was at it !
no bloo*y oil !!!
the oil was past minimum on the dip stick !
it was topped up to full in May ?
Do these car burn oil and if so at what rate ????

My edition never had any oil between services, but I think I have heard of some gti's using quite a bit of oil

I generally havent had to use much over the past 6 months over 6,000 miles ive had the car although it did require a small top up, about half a litre.

I top mine up every now and again, check it every few weeks, but I do alot of miles.
Mine's an 06 with 93k on!

1 litre per 10,000km is within the normal limit for this engine according to VW. For the first 10k or so, mine used over a litre of oil. Over the next 10k, barely half of that.

Its the thirstyst car for oil I've ever had, a litre every 3-4 months / 3000 miles ish. Apparantly 1L / 1000 km is classed as acceptible by VW ...

Mine uses about 1.5 to 2 litres between services!!
Perfectly acceptable according to VW :mad:
She doesnt leak it, but always give very healthy performance on the rollers so she's not down on power to make me worry.
Its about 0.75 of a litre from bottom level to max on the dipstick afaik
10,000 miles as i go by that and dont live in Europe.

Ive seen a muppet over fill a car with oil before it got 200m before it blew the piston rings, and a new engine was the cheapest option! id do it bit by bit and let it settle say 0.25 first and keep on going till the maximum, but remember it will take awhile to fully reach the sump. :wink:

yeah, good work today can be a bit dauntingripping the dash to pieces. lol i wouldn't worry about oil level its better to be on minimum than over filled, so personally add a little give it time to settle add a bit more. and if you have a clean dry funnel it will make it easier to avoid oil on the engine cover :happy2:

Our 88k car likes a top up of 1 litre between services, I topped it up the other day but it is saying it needs servicing in a few hundred miles :fighting:

Comments lke this never fail to shock me. my car hardly uses a drop, but i check the levels and tyre pressure every single time i wash it.
It takes 20 seconds to do this, and could save you from a whole world of pain. by the time your oil light comes on, there is a good chance that its to late. :sad1:

vw said to me as long as it doesn't use more than 1litre of oil every 600miles its fine.
mines been through 4.5litres and i still have another 3months till my service!
theres no leak it just drinks it for fun!

Put 1.5 litre in mine in 4k. That was a couple months back and nothing since. It does get quite a hard time but I always let it warm up and run down.
I'm sure its a litre from nothing to max in these?
