Bit of a grim day weatherwise but thankfully it did stop raining.
Shame there was a lack of sunshine though.
-
Apparently it's capable of 0-120mph in 4 seconds. No NOS.
-
:congrats:
Wish I could have been there.
-
Some nice pics there mate. :happy2:
-
^^^^
Many of those pics are stunning and capture the atmosphere even if the weather's lighting was dull.
They're the sort of pics with which you can easily imagine the glorious sounds.
-
Fantastic photos Hedge, :happy2:
-
Great pics Hedge :happy2:
I got the afternoon off work so went with a couple of mates to Canal at the bottom of the runway. Got some good footage and pics as they were taking off and landing literally over my head. Got a nice one of XH landing :happy2:
Will post them up this afternoon once I've cleared some hdd space, I took 32GB of pictures!
-
Cracking pictures and a cracking show. I took well over 500 photo's, switched the camera on last night and it's killed the SD card, gutted doesn't even come close :sad1:
-
Awesome pics there Ian :congrats: :congrats:
-
Thanks for the kind comments guys. :ashamed:
-
Cracking pics Ian! :happy2:
Off there tomorrow. Even if the weather is better my photography skills won't be :sad1:
-
It was a good day overall despite some schoolboy photography errors.
If you have a choice of gate entry go for the ones further up the alphabet, A & B are a trek from the display line.
-
Nice photos Hedge!!!
I was there today, good show!!
Airbus was simply MASSIVE !!! :signLOL:
Was gutted not to see the F22 Raptor again!!!
-
Nice photos Hedge!!!

You a long way from home and on my turf :signLOL:
The Raptor did it's validation for Farnborough but I think has only displayed on trade days. :sad1:
How was the Vulcan?

Raptor was only there Monday and Tuesday. I'm glad I got a picture of it! Was very disappointed it wasn't here for longer like it was meant to be, and that the F-35 didn't show.
-
Sad news for Vulcan fans as she has blown a brake unit and wont be flying this Sunday. :sad1:
-
I've seen the Vulcan fly a few times and every time it makes the hair on my arms stand up. An absolute great piece of history!!!!!!

Also gutted that the F-22 bailed home early, however after speaking to the Lockheed Martin chaps on the Friday they are aiming to get a VSTOL variant of the F-35 on flying display in 2 years time :pomppomp:

Sorry dude, if you'd have popped in earlier we had a shed load of bags to give away, we all left at about 5.30 for the coach and still didn't get back till 10, which was a bit of a downer.

^ I knew this would most likely be the image you'd choose for a new sig!
Nice one which conveys mucho Vulcanic potencia machista! :notworthy:
-
epic pics as usual :happy2:
-
Just caught up with this thread - amazing pics & video! Thanks for posting :happy2:
I went on Sunday but was hugely disappointed to find the Vulcan was knackered.
I used to live in a small village relatively close to RAF Scampton as a boy and recall these beasts on midnight scrambles - several at a time flying frighteningly low above our house. The noise and look of these black moth like shapes in the moonlit sky were just undescribable. I think they carried nuclear payload in the 70's too! :scared:
Long live the Vulcan :notworthy:
-
Like you I was born and raised very close to Scampton and can remember driving past them with my parents when I was young.
Yes the Vulcan was a cold-war nuclear bomber, but not anymore, now its just a thing of beauty. :happy2:

Hedge,
They running derate on the Vulcan engines at the moment? I mean its bloody impressive, but when I think back to the displays in its hey-day it just seemed to be a bit more spritely off the runway, I cant imagine then flying it heavy for performace and fatigue purposes.
So are they using a little less coal??

Not sure what derate means old chap. I think they have concerns regarding spare engines as these are 201's and the other 'runners' are 301's and they don't fit without a lot of help.
They also have concerns regarding the airframe and are petitioning the CAA to allow them to transit at much higher altitudes to reduce the stress but that opens a whole different can of worms.
It's still damned impressive watching it take off mind.

One daymaybe I'll do 0-120 in 10 seconds....if I'm lucky :P
-
Loving the Vulcan pictures etc.
Reminds me of going to air shows when I was young and all the car alarms going off whenever it took off.

Derating an engine is basically the same as detuning :happy2: and after what youve just said above i imagine they have it would make alot of sense.
-
^^^^
Aha.. De-rating. Now the word makes sense.
-
Thanks for the pics and great photo's.
I used to love going to airshows when I was a kid and keep meaning to go again every year. I've got a 2 year old who love planes, so I'll defiinatly take the little feller next year....
