Title: RNS 510 - LED in 56 Plate - Battery does drain !!!!

Hi All


I know quite a few people were interested in this topic so I have some bad news.

Car went in to have alloys refurbed last saturday and we have just got the car back , 7days later !


Battery was DOA !!!!


Gutted, Thought we may have been ok !

To be fair it started every day for five days before, so time to buy a new canbus for me !

Now just to find Carl's link for it !

New can bus bought !

just tried but search function not working on forum ???


Anybody know if there is a how to guide for finding the old one/ taking the facia away to find it ???

Ok Update



I have receieved the new can bus so tonight went on the hunt for the elusive can bus ! it seems in UK cars it is in a differenct position to the above guide !

BUT


On the guide it says make sure you take a note of the current coding of your gateway with vcds before you change !


Am I right in saying then, that i can not just remove and reinstall !

I need to wait till the current canbus has been read, then remove, then recode ???????

Yes you need to know what to apply with the new CanBus

If you take the old out and put the new in without coding it wont work :happy2:

It's fairly straight forwards to do.

Just write down each option that is ticked in the current gateway and then apply them when the new gateway is installed.

It's easier to write them down as sometimes they have moved around within the gateway coding (although i've only come across that once) :happy2:

its not just a case of the can bus will not work...your whole car will not work  :scared:

Where abouts are you B/lion? If I can help with fitting I've done more than i can count on both hands and feet :grin:

There is 3 possible places the can bus is positioned

2004 - 2005 Ashtray
-2006 Above the pedals
2006- Behind the relay bar above the central electrics

Im confused.  My battery died after a 3week exercise just gone.  Starting with jump leads and a 3hour drive managed to re charge the battery.

Im expecting when I return to Germany in 4 weeks it may have died again. 

What is and why would the canbus need changing after a dead battery?

Sorry if its a simple stupid question!

The Can Gateway only needs changing if you have retro fitted an MFD3 with above 266X firmware in a car with an Older than K revision Can Gateway

Yours probably just died due to the Alarm draining the battery.

You can get a garage to test the drain on the battery for you
