Title: Rear Axle Wheel Spacers
Post by: rdfcpete on August 03, 2010, 03:53:52 pm
I've PM'ed Ben the wheel man but I appreciate he may be busy and away from the forum, so thought I'd ask too:

The stance on my Audi splits is slightly shy on the rear axle so I was looking for pointers on which spacers and more importantly, which longer bolts to purchase guys?

This is the current stance:

Not the best pics, apologies. Fronts are fine, happy enough with these. What will make the rears sit a bit more proudly - 10/12/15mm hubcentric spacers?
As said, due to a nasty previous experience with a wheel sheering off my first car, the bolt selection is slightly more important to me. These must be locking wheel nuts too  :happy2:

The car is going to stay on standard suspension.

As said, I've PM'ed Ben and I've read Nathan's thread on this which was useful.
Where I'm caught up is where actually to purchase them from with the right bolts/locking nuts included, as well as which size will be safe?

Pointers appreciated - Many thanks

There are some listed in the for sale section listed in the for sale section :happy2:

Indeed fella, cheers.

I bought some 10mm ones from Jonny with the relevant wheel nuts too, so hopefully a good result.
You reckon 10mm will do it? I kinna guesstimated that would be about right a bit blind

Are they ET51 or ET54?
10mm on ET51 brings them out just about flush with the arch. You won't want them sticking out much more than that otherwise you'll start thinking the fronts need bringing out too!

^ ET54 Beezer!

Will that mean they're just shy of the arch then?

Yeah, they should sit just a few mm inside the arch, a similar sort of amount as the front wheels do. The sidewall shape of the tyres will also have a visual effect here too. Tyres with a squarish shoulder on the tread and a massive rim protector will also help fill the arch, but ones with a very small rim protector and fairly rounded shoulders on the tread will make the wheel look a bit narrower and sat in the arch further. So it's not an exact science!
