Well the S3 is definately going, some of you will know of the problems I have had with it over the past few months and it has never been right since it has had a number of rather large repairs  I did think about keeping it the other day and carry on the modding trail but after an experience in it the other night which I will briefly explain it is definately going.
So quickly onto the other night, driving back from the misses late on everything seemed fine until I was going round a corner around 30 mph when suddenly everything in the car went off, no lights (interior & exterior), engine turned itself off, literally everything in the car went dark. The worst part was that the steering lock came on and the brakes just didn't work. So as you can imagine my arse was going, I thought I was gonna end up in a wall. Luckily The handbrake worked () and a quick flick off the ignition got the steering lock off so I managed to get it parked on the side of the road. Tried to get it going again but nothing, putting the key in the igniton and turning did feck all no lights, no power, zilch! Called the misses to come and pick me up and typically as soon as she arrived it fired back into life after turning over a few times, when it did evetually start the revs were maxxing out as far as the DSG restricion would let it (I think it's 4K) with no input from me whatsoever. It eventually settled and started running fine again. I got it home and straight back to Audi yesterday morning. The whole experience had made me lose complete faith in the car, I just don't want to drive it anymore. I hate to imagine what would have happened if I had been doing 70 mph on the m/way or my misses were driving (she would have just panicked), it could have turned out very nasty!
It is not what you would expect from a car that is barely a year old :surprised:
So the question is now what to move on to. I have not got a clue. I have thought about the 135i and the 335i but I am just not sure. I would like some of your guys input. Budget is £30k ish :happy2:

porker!

+1

Pork.
Just try hanging on a while longer, as the prices are going to be hit with all the trade ins come October. That's what I'm waiting for. :happy2:
-
Pretty serious stuff that mate, thankfully nobody hurt. I've somehow missed the tale of woe with this car, do you know what the root causes of problems are??
Are Audi taking it back from you?
What next really depends on your needs/requirements. Porkers are the current car of choice for many but not sure if I'd go that way myself.

I would love a Porsche but I need 4 seats and im only 22, I don't wanna look like im driving my dads car :scared:

I would NOT buy a car from WRC in bradford, used to have a further site in Keighley also, cant say why, but dodgy sums it up.

No, but I understand the need for 4 seats and your insurance cost limitations at 22yo.

Golf R?

V8 M3 FTW :driver:
-
Ok lets bring a bit of sense into this thread!! :rolleye:
Now we know you still hanker after your ED30 so why not buck the trend and go BACK to a MK5? I'm thinking maybe a fully loaded Pirelli DSG? Looks like the depreciation is fairly bullet proof on these things too! :happy2: If not maybe a late ED30 or MK6 GTI or .:R? I know it may sound odd me recommending a GTI on this site but hey, I'm kinda wacky like that!
-
^
Spoilsport :sad1:
-
Candy White Mk6 GTi or .:R would prob be my choice. Most likely the GTi altho the 4wd in the .:R would be nice for putting the power down once modded a bit ;)
-
Why not get a cheap run around and put a deposit down on the ed35 once details are released?

Some good suggestions and some dick head ones from that chav from Lancaster :fighting:
I had a good snoot round an S5 the other day but I reckon a 4.2 V8 would be a little heavy on loopy juice for me, the M3 looks nice and I would have one in a heart beat but again 4.2 V8 and 500 miles a week don't mix!
Golf R is deffo out of the question as I have had on for the past year with an Audi badge on :popcornsoda:
I hav thought about going back to an ED30, saving some money on the purchase of the car and blowing the rest on some mods to make it a proper track weapon. Another thought I have had is to get a cheap run around and wait to see if/when the RS3 is released. As you can probably tell my head is all over the place, i just don't know what to do :scared:
I think I need to go on some test drives. I have found a nice white 135i with some BMW performance mods on for a resonable price which looks the dogs
-
My mate gets about 300 miles a tank out of an S5 and he drives like a typical lad I guess. Sounds awesome with the Milltek though!.. it is an amazing place to be inside too, really on another level from our cars, as you'd expect I guess.
135i is a very stealth car. Drive it and love it. You can warranty approved dealer mod them too and get more power! There is a 1M coming in the spring though.
There's a lot to be said for having 2 cars too, for very different needs. You could have a seriously modded GTI for fun/track and a decent 320d smoker for the 500 miles a week for the same as you'd spend on one car.
Think vertically!
-
If you are interested in the A5/S5 then the 3.0 TDI can't be ignored.
With some different software on board it will probably munch all over the S5.
-
What are Audi saying about your "brown trouser" moment when the lights went off? :surprised:
-

Still amazes me people actually buy the R over the Audi, the interior is no where close to the S3 as well!
-
I think you need something with plenty of headroom because your quite tall and there needs to be room for your misses thumb as well seen as you seem stuck under it at the minute

Instead of having a car in the garage, you may end up with the patter of tiny feet in the house :surprised: :scared:

Pork.
Just try hanging on a while longer, as the prices are going to be hit with all the trade ins come October. That's what I'm waiting for. :happy2:
Chatting to a Porsche UK Employee today (not salesman) he reckons Porsche have diverted a lot of UK new imports to other countries as the New car scene has slumped somewhat in the UK.
He reckons good second-hand Porkers are getting few and far between, and thinks prices will go up instead of down later this year when the trade-ins hit.
-
I'd heard something along those lines but then others saying it was poop - I guess it just remains to be seen and fingers crossed it works in my favour.
Luckily the new clutter will do me fine for hacking around in for now whilst I watch.
-
All good suggestions, apart from the misses one Gaz :P
I think I have found the car now anyway guys

I hope it works out for you fella....what ever it is! :happy2:

I'm still curious as to what the problem with the car was. Complete and total loss of electrical power...
...loose battery cable?
Actually, joking aside, there was an issue in the US when the new Camaro came out. The battery for the Camaro was in the boot and GM had chosen a poor routing for the cable to the front of the car - the positive cable was very close to the starter motor and could rub. There were at least three occasions where the cable got worn through, creating a short, resulting in complete loss of electrical power and drive to the car. In one instance IIRC there was a fire as well. This was all within the first two weeks of the car's release! There was a recall and the cables were re-routed adequately. But this sort of thing does happen.

gotta be thinging used cayman s really mate. either that or a golf/roc R if you fancy vw. even a seat cupra r? would give you like £5k to mod it :D
-
Holy moly! Sounds defo like a brown trouser moment. I came quite close when my car cut out whilst turning left for first exit at a roundabout.
-
^^^^
Surely the point is which car suits your lifestyle best. A Cayman S or TT-RS is useless if you occasionally need 4 seats or to transport a 7ft pole or a 6'x2' piece of fence as I did yesterday.
-
Ah Tom, don't seem to have the best luck with Audi's eh fella?
With £30k to spend I think I'd get an Audi every time.
With that kind of money I think I'd get a black A5 3.0TDI Quattro S-Line, then put a map and a milltek on it. Job done.
Not lightning quick or as fast as stuff you're probably looking at, but an excellent all rounder in my eyes
-
My money would be on an ED30 and spend a few K on mods and bank the rest. Still have a mint motor that will have lost its big chunk of value and very slowly depreciate...
BMW 1 series engine is very attractive though. Just looks a little small and thin inside.
-
How about a RS4??
Either that or a M3
-
rocco r in green oh and hello from mont blanc
-
rocco r in green oh and hello from mont blanc
I was going to suggest that but its not that much of a car for the money
-
Id go with a 2nd hand 09 plate A4 3.0tdi with a touch of revo and would have plenty of room and good for the mileage you do and wait till the RS3 or the new BMW 335i/135i/1M come out and see what you think of them.
Or maybe a 2nd hand S4 3.0 not sure you can pick them up for 30k though.
-

Bonjour! My Wife and I were just saying earlier that this time last year we were sat outside a lovely restaurant in Chamonix baking in 30 degree heat.

For that money, I'd deffo be going for a 335i coupe :happy2:
Every time I drive my 330i I realise I made the right choice. It's just so much nicer to drive than anything else I have driven and even though there are faster cars for the money, I haven't found a 'better' one yet.
I'm sure plenty will disagree with me though
