Hi All, after reading all the info on this site regarding DV Valves i decided to change mine to the OEM version D, as i own an 05 GTI, and it is recommended that on models this early it be replaced,
I am very pleased i decided to change mine as my car now feels a whole lot better and is alot faster, and would recommend anyone with an early MK5 GTI to replace their DV valve for the latest version,
Reason for my post is that i have uploaded some pics of my DV Valve and it shows just what condition yours could be in too.

that is fubbared
I took one out of my mates 56plate GTI the other day and that was in a sorry state as well, not quite that bad though
-
Would you say you noticed the car was 'off' before you changed it? Did still pull strongly / ie you could feel the turbo kicking in?
-
Nasty stuff, I have an early 2005 model so will order in the D version DV just as a matter of precaution.
-

Hi there, yes i noticed the car was off so to speak, it was very slugglish, and the turbo seemed to kick in very late, there ws also this hissing sound when putting you foot down, after changing the DV the car is now alot faster, accleration is alot more solid, and the turbo kicks in alot earlier.
the last pic shows the box and part number of the replacement Version D valve

I was actually just going to post the exact symptoms that you have satated! :surprised:
A faint hissing when you accelerate and certainly no grunt.
Is it easy to check the DV valve, where is it and how much is a new one? Mines is also an 05. :drinking:
-
Do the edition 30's have the revised DV?
Or is it worth swapping mine?

its located under the driver side wing, u have to remove the wheel and then the wing liner, its directley behind there, 3 x 7mm(i think) allen key bolts hold it in which are a bit fiddeley but with a bit of patience they will come out, when refitting i would recommend you use some thread lock when replacing the allen bolts, cost was £47.00

You are a gentleman! :happy2:

I haven't noticed sluggishness but like boiling a frog Perhaps the effect is gradual and you don't realise over time....I'm going to look into this too..I get the hissing sound. Sept 05 build my06.
-
I take it the pic of the part box is the correct part number ?. :happy2:
-
might be a daft question but i have a 57 plate done 22k. would that have the new version or should i get it changed as a precaution???

I very much doubt you will have the D version unless it was changed without your knowledge.

When did the D version come into production? I have a 2006 (06 plate). Bit worried after seeing that! :surprised:
Also why is the D version better over going with an aftermarket one e.g Forge?

From memory Revision D was introduced mid/late 2009.
I think the OEM DV is electronically controlled and reacts a lot quicker and earlier - in comparison to the Forge one. Take this with a pinch of salt - I'm no expert. I am sure someone can elaborate/correct me.
-

yes mate the picture of the box is for the new DV valve i fitted (version D)
-
The new revision D is a piston action type, rather than a diaphram, which as can be seen is prone to splitting over time. My GTI is a May 08 car and it did not have the revision D installed. :happy2:
-
Hi Guys, just in reply to those of you who have asked about ed30's and laters golfs, i could not tell you what DV you have fitted as im no expert, i just went off the great advice i got from this site, im sure if you dig around or ask the right person you will be sure to find out, best way to find out id say would be to remove your DV valve and find out exactly which one youve got or like me you will always have that doubt in your mind.
and it really is and easy job, trust me.

Apart from trying to get the engine cover off. Still having problems with that, two years later!

the engine cover doesnt need to be removed on KO3 or KO4.
The best advise is for everyone with a diaphram (non D version) to change them. its the only way of knowing if its gone, and if it hasnt, then it will be likley to in the future.
Mine went at 18k miles, 2k miles after a remap. on 60k miles now and not had any problems with the D version.
-
IIRC the piston type was introduced about the same time as the TSI engine(mk6 and rocco) and was then used as the replacement on the TFSI's ?????

So what the cost of these revision D dump valves?
Ta
-
about £45 from memory.
-
just ordered mine. over £50 but under £51. Can't remember the exact amount.
The guy at the sales desk says he has never sold one before. :surprised:
Awesome are also selling them for the same price, but with delivery on top!
-
Cheers guys. Will have to add that to the list of things to order.
Anybody have VW fit them? Any issues there to be aware of?
Thanks

VW labour charge will be over the top! Find a local indie and it should be just half an hour's labour.

So glad someone has posted about this been trying to find out what the weird hissing sound was going to change mine today!

I asked the question because my car has to go in for some other work. :happy2:
-
Anyone got a how to? or is it really that easy that once the wheel arch liner is off its a doddle? :popcornsoda:
-
Give it a good firm tug!
Mate don't ask. I've yanked the bloody thing hard enough to pull my fingers off my hands and it still refuses to come off.
I thought I had to lift the engine cover off to get to the DV, otherwise it'd be a bit tricky?
-

Lol I had to practically kneel in the engine bay whilst pulling at the cover. Helps if you know where the mounts are tho so you don't snap it!

When you get it off put a dab of silicone grease on the dowels it will make it easier to get off next time.
-
about £45 from memory.
Now that is a good price!! I would be worried if I were Forge Motorsport, IMHO.
-
I get a bit of a whistling noise but only when i ease of the power, could this be the DV?
-
Just been and odered one. 40 notes with a lil touch of discount lol :innocent:

i wouldnt, they have plenty of other products.
-
How much would a garage charge to fit this on an Edition 30? ( VW and INDY) I guess it'll be alot easier than std gti?
I'd attempt it myself, but i managed to break the number plate bulb holders by just looking at them!
-
Had mine changed earlier this week (along with ECS mount) at HT Auto's in Garforth and Matt charged £40 plus VAT (and he changed sorted an intermittant light fault - changed the bulb!)
06 plate with 65k on the clock and the type C valve looked brand new.....it doesn't feel as "punchy" on the type D but this could be my perception.....ECS mount has made a real difference though

Its only four screws matey then it just lifts off - located right at the front of the engine on the eddy. I did mine in about 5 mins.

got mine today paid £76 for valve and aluminium ashtray cover :happy2:
-
Cheers guys :happy2:
I've been paranoid over it after reading these threads. However i went for a blast last night, and im confident that i am certainly not lacking boost. :pomppomp:
For those that have had remaps like myself, can you hear the turbo spool more and abit louder wastegate 'tshhh' ? Or could that be a sign of a faulty DV?

Yep i get that - especially when its just starting to boost at about 2500 - 3000.
-
I might have a crack it this myself... however, can anyone post a pic with the location of the DV valve on the Ed30 please?
Cheers!

Just made the change to a oem d version and although the old one was fine imho the new version does seem to feel as tho it has more pull. Especially at higher revs. For the money and peace of mind alone its worth the small price tag!
-
Guys, slightly off topic.... Where are you buying the DVs from? Main dealer? I would recommend you use these guys:
http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/
Cheaper than main dealer. All oem parts available. I have been informed dealers get their parts from these lads!
They are located in Birmingham so I tend to collect all my stuff. I'm pretty sure they deliver too. :happy2:

Just done an oil change and changed the DV to a revision 'D'
The revision B it replaced was actually fine... No holes, perfect condition...
Can't say i've noticed any difference yet but need to take it on a long drive :D

Open to the public too mate. Cheaper for trade and taxi drivers though.

I replaced mine yesterday at work and, no word of a lie on my Ed30 it took 5 mins as its located at the front by the engine cover! My mate changed his yesterday on his GTI K03 and it took him 45 mins! Does anyone know why the locations were changed when the Ed30's came out? I definitely noticed it pulling better along with my ITG fitted yesteday too! :happy2:
-
I've used TPS before. In fact, when I first went to buy a new air filter at 10k, the VW dealer directed me to these guys as they were out of stock.

I just looked up the one in Brum and they're about a mile away from VW Birmingham. Awesome.

is this a revisoni D dv? the seller soesn't know himself! The part numbers don't match with the original post mind you.

Got mine form awesome and the one on the ebay link looks nowt like the one I had fitted.......defo not a mk5 diverted valve by the looks of the pic
-
That ebay one is for a 1.8t 20v.
-
I feel stupid but
what does DV stand for?
was thinking 'diverter valve' but people call it a DV valve, which would mean diverter valve valve?
:ashamed:
edit: Dump valve, found it ta
-
Can mean either I think.
Dump valves tend to 'dump' the excess into the atmosphere.
Divertor valves will recirculate the air back into the system.
Although I could be very wrong ha
-
Ok so I fitted a rev D DV yesterday...........all I can say is WOW!
The car is transformed!! Having took off the old one which took forever as there is no room to work, it looked fine with no holes etc. (slightly hoping it was broke to justify my spend).
I fitted the new one and the difference is like day and night! :happy2: The turbo kicks in much sooner with no noticeable "whoosh, schoo" noises.
I had to admit I was a bit sceptical following some of the stories of people fitting it and experiencing what they deemed worse performance.
I'm really pleased with the results :jumpmove:
-
Just spent a while reading through this thread and sounds like I could be in need of the upgraded DV valve. I couldnt find it after a quick search on google, would anyone like to point me in the right direction as to where I can purchase it online?
