I think everyone's seen mine by now!

From what I've seen Shaun, unless you go for the OEM badges they start to discolour and pitt within the first 6 months or so. So in answer to one of your question's, the front one will cost you at least £50 + then youv'e got to pull the thing apart!!  :surprised:

It is OEM but for the MK4, then you have to transfer the letters. Im now onto my third (cheap) rear and the front one looks as good as the day I fitted it!  :happy2:

The 6quid one's from ebay also are a incy bit smaller - not that you would notice though.

The OEM one would be nice - but 50 smackers!

It is, but I bought the MK4 anni badge complete thinking it would fit  :signIWS: So then had no option but to pull the letters off and put them on the MK5 mount. Negs spot on though, the rear ones are a bit smaller, but my one fits perfectly  :drinking:

I dont think you can get a proper red front badge for the Mk5.

As you pointed out, the red badges were from the Mk4 Anniversary model.  What I can't understand though, is that I can find the Mk4 Anni rear, but not front!

That's interseting T_T, will that part number be recognised by a UK VW parts dept? Be interesting to see if it's the same size as the OEMplus ones?

Yup, it is the official part number used on the Mk4.  So order it, peel off the self adhesive backing paper, and award a Blue Peter Badge to yourself!  :P

7.0 rev 712 (for VW and Audi - Seat and Å koda are older).  I do need to find some updates though.

I actually find it really easy - much better than old skool microfilms!  :scared:

It will only search for specific part numbers with a valid VIN and a live interweb connection.  Otherwise, a good old fashioned manual look through each page works.

Are you getting pricing info?

Double click on a part listed in the right side of the screen, and a smaller window will open.  If the part has different colours, say a headlining, then the price only comes up if you select a specific colour "Sub"-part number.

My Seat is 241 and Å koda is 247.  Where did yours come from?

Im sory to say it guys but these badges will go orange quite quickly, and if you intend to use them on the front they are a bit small. The front one I bought from oemPlus is still as RED as it was the day I fittedit (over 18 months ago!)

I've got a feeling these were available in SA too as when I was looking into it the only cars I found with them fitted were from there! There was a guy on the other forum who posted some pics (he was from SA) of his friends car and he was going to ask him where he got them from.

Just a quick search done on some modding sites local to me:

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php?prod_id=15647&pid=vw&cid=Golf Mk5&pg=1&showall=1&brandstr=&str=

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php?prod_id=17059&pid=vw&cid=Golf Mk5&pg=1&showall=1&brandstr=&str=

And for Joe:

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php?prod_id=17063&pid=vw&cid=Golf Mk5&pg=1&showall=1&brandstr=&str=

I have emailed the numbers to VW and will see what they reply with.

Accoridng to oemplus this is the vw code 1J0853675AK

I don't understand why we can't order any VW part from our dealer, all he would have to do is order it from Germany no ?

I've got alot of my parts for my BMWs which were only qavailable in Germany / rare ?

I'll take that part number see what the parts guy says ?

Hello guys

Bad news...

Unfortunately VW only stocks the silver badge. And the silver badge with red "I" Letter. The badge with the red "I" letter in it has the product code that TT posted and is only for the back not the front.

According to a good mate at VW SA Volkswagen DO NOT in any way produce the red badges any longer. Not even for a MK4 anni edition. So any point of searching other countries is not worth it.

He supplied me the link to OEMplus and said that they stock it which we already know.

I am waiting for two more replies from other dealers just to validate what has been said but unfortunately if you want a badge of decent quality OEMplus is the way forward...

On the other hand... I could find out how much it would cost to make them... I have some friends in that regard.... And with South Africa having a weak rand it should be pretty cheap...

What you guys think?

Mike

Thanks for that Mike, appreciate it .

Like Shaun said a £100 a badge is ridiculous !

I might just debadge the rear end and stick an Ed30 badge bang on in the middle somewhere underneath the VW boot hinge ?

and the for the front just buy a debaged grill ?

Two things that really annoy me about this item!

1. Postage cost is ridiculous for such a small light item

2. They list it in the MKV section and this item will NOT fit on a MKV grille!!

The steering wheel bit where it says GTi, maybe  get one with a red back ground, like in the press pics of the edition 30 ?

a front Edition 30 badge ?

Could also have a sort of pin thing for the headrest same design as the rear bagde ?

Hello guys

Bad news and possibly good news from my side....

Bad news:

The badges cant be manufactured... OR at least not by me. I got quotes and to set up a mould to handle the badges is going to cost me about 50 000 rand. OR about 3125 pounds... Which is simply absurd. This explains why OEMplus is so expensive because you pay for the mould and then the actual manufacturing of the product...

Good news. Or maybe not:

I can purchase the GTi badges and get the edges of them sprayed red... Its something I would be willing to try. What do you guys think?

Sorry for the major anticlimax. Oh yes.

What about a badge (Like Gulfstreams badges) in brushed aluminium with red edging for the back of the car?

Mike

Thanks for looking into it Mike  :happy2:

In conclusion there are a number of way's to do it ranging from under a fiver to £100, depends on budget and how many times you want to have to change the letters over

Mr PG, maybe the relevant input can be stickied in the maintenance/member recommendation sections?
