Having owned my car since the tail end of May and having deliberated about whether or not to modify it in any way, I bit the bullet and got Star Performance in Kirkcaldy to install a Stage 1 GIAC remap and a new OEM DV earlier today. I also took the opportunity to get the belts and water pump replaced too.
Jim at Star Performance put the car on the rolling road and it's now putting out 255bhp and 303 lb/ft!!!! :jumping: Once I get my scanner sorted, I'll post up the graphs.
Only downside to the day was the coil pack on cylinder 4 giving up the ghost on the way home, so had to about turn and get four new ones fitted.
Still, the car is absolutely awesome and pulls like a train in any gear. Even the acceleration in sixth gear from about 60mph upwards is staggering!! :driver:
Star Performance are to be highly recommended too. Excellent job and all at a great price. :happy2:

congratulations. :jumpmove:

sounds good.... :driver: enjoy

Congrats on getting your remap! :pomppomp:
I'm jealous... :sad1:

I'm jealous... :sad1:
Don't be. I was advised today that to get even just 20bhp or so more, I'd need to buy at a performance downpipe (if not a full TBE), a HPFP and an induction kit. So, spending the best part of £1.5 - £2K for a measly 20bhp just aint gonna happen.
At least you've got a K04 turbo to play with!! :happy2:
-
im jealous 2 craig as i cant play wid mine for another year yet :sad1:

Ok i think we need to ban you for a year until you grow some.

Yea star are good that's who done all of my mods on this and my last gti.
Don't be fooled in to thinking that that it's only a crappy 20 bhp you get with the add ons. The drivability is better the car is a lot smoother than the giac stage 1 and the mid range is beefed up so much it feels like going from standard too mapped again.
Eg the giac map only seen my 0-60 time tumble by 0.5 of a second, and with all the add ons you mentioned and an intercooler it tumbled by a further 1 second ! So the add on have made more differance than the map it's self ! That only tells half the story as the 1/4 mile has been reduced more than I expected too.

So is that 55 BHP from just a remap?
-
So is that 55 BHP from just a remap?
Yes. Just a remap and the fitment of the new style OEM piston DV.

Nice one, they are really good figures for a stage 1 remap. :happy2:
I had a custom remap carried out today (yesterday) with an Neuspeed intake, SFS intercooler hoses, Precat removed from OE exhaust, and rev D diverter and achieved very similar numbers to yours.
Shame they didn't leave the factory like this.

Very interesting, I remember a couple of members said it was impossible to get 50+ bhp from just stage 1.

You can get 300 bhp from a stage one remap if you go to the right rollers, the figures you have quoted mean nothing at all. If it makes you happy to believe you have 55 extra BHP from a remap then you keep telling yourself that.
It is common knowledge that none of the tuners maps can get those sort of figures in the real world.
As long as it drives well with a smooth delivery then nothing else should really matter. :happy2:

Am thinking of getting the same done to my GTI not spoke star performance yet but there site says £425 for the software update, what did it cost you for the oem dv? or the whole job done?
thanks
-
£425 inc vat for the Map and £79.99 inc vat and fitting for the new DV, so just over £500.00 in total. :happy2:

:signLOL: brilliant!

Sounds money well spent!
Can you feel a big improvement over the way it was and have you altered the induction at all yet?
Thanks :happy2:
-
Most definitely, yes!! Feels like a new car. The shove in the back when on boost is highly addictive!! :happy2:
Haven't done anything on the induction side of things yet and probably won't for the time being. Reckon the next thing on my list is uprated roll-bars and possibly lowering springs, just to tighten the handling up a bit.
Have also got a Forge short-shifter to fit too.
Just thinking, if you're local (ish) I'd be happy to take you for a spin, just so you can get a feel what you'll get for your money if you go ahead and get the same map?
