Hi all , Im picking my GTI up on Wednesday and was wondering how to tell if my wheels are reps or not? They are not diamond cut , just a normal alloy wheel silver colour. Now I realise that my car is an 05 reg so the wheels could be genuine ones that have been refurbed that way to get rid of the white worm. Is there any way to tell by looking at them while they are on the car? The valves maybe , i take it real ones have bolt on valves? They have a few scuffs on them anyway , nothing major but something id like to sort given time , so if they ARE reps could I still have them diamond cut with the black inserts , as i think this finish looks lush? Thanks in advance.

PS I know I should have asked when I looked at the car in the VW garage , but I didnt find this site untill after I done the deal!

Look for bbs markings in the inside of the rim if it's genuine.

Or RONAL....but I suspect they came in later.

Most 05s should be on BBS if original. BBS alloys have a bolt in valvle. Ronals have a black rubber coated valve without a bolt.

Are you sure it has 18's, did you look?, they come with 17's which are just painted from the factory

Haha I have actually asked myself that question , although Im pretty sure the salesman said it had 3 options on it , 18" wheels , Leather and CD changer. Where do I look for BBS or Ronal on the wheel then , is this something I could see with the wheel still on the car? Also , is there any way of decoding the build sticker to work out the options it came from the factory with - did the 18" wheels have a factory option code? I assume it will be somewhere in the boot , or in the inside cover of the service book , as my Octavias were?. I didnt feel any vibrations through the steering when I had the car up to motorway speeds so Im assuming the wheels are still running true , even if they turn out to be copies.
Thanks for everyones responses so far , Im enjoying being a member on here - BRISKODA was my previous home when I had my Octys and Fabia.

you can use that to decode the options sticker in the boot (and should be in the front of the service book)

Loucyffer do you have any pics of the genuine bolt in valve as I think I have these but like the OP my wheels look like the 17s but the garage where I bought the car from had the wheels refurbed before I got the car

Sorry I don't, as my car has the black rubber coated Ronal valves. I'll take a shot of my valve & post it up. Gimme ten minutes

Brand new Ronal wheel with black valve. The BBS variant is copper/brass coloured, with a bolt around the base. You won't get them confused!

Is there any way to see the 'genuine' mark either RONAL or BBS without taking the wheel off.
Loucyffer my valve is different to that I think it's got the bolt in type you describe and my cars an 05 so that might make sense.
Cheers for the pics anyway.

Did any replicas come with a bolt in valve , or just the real BBS Monzas?
-
If you had a small mirror then I think you should be able to hold that through the spokes and see it with the aid of a torch or something. If they are the BBS ones like mine then each of the five spokes has a recessed rectangle where the BBS stamp is located. The only problem is I think its only stamped behind one spoke per wheel which might mean a bit of searching.
Other than that its off with the wheel.

You Sir , deserve a prize!! :ashamed: Theyre 17s.... :ashamed: I really should have looked and not took the salesmans word for it , having said that , it could have been a slip of the toungue on his behalf , at least I know they are genuine (bolt in valves)
