Hey folks,
On the early GTI's, they do not have a 'DUAL' button in the middle lower section of the 3 heater adjuster knobs.
It's just blank.
What exactly does the DUAL button do? It has an LED to indicate whether its on / off so it must do something, yet im sure I have dual zone climate control?
I guess the reason im asking really, is that I have bought a climate control panel with heated seat controls on, and it has the DUAL button on it... Just wondered if it will actually do anything when turned on?
Thanks :)

Its so you can have dual climate control. Different temperatures on both sides of the car. :happy2:
When the driver turns the temp control it controls both sides of the car to the same temp. But if the passenger presses "Dual", they can then control the temp on their side of the car.

I see...
At the moment if I press and hold the AUTO button, it locks both the driver & passenger side temperature to be the same when I adjust it.
So basically, by fitting the panel with 'DUAL' on, I can get it to work like the later models do with that button?

I'm not sure mate :ashamed:
Was you able to set the drivers side at say 26 (hot) and the passenger side at 17 (cold) on your old climate control ???
I think the new Dual climate control panel should work when you swap it for your old one, but someone like Darren (mortygttdi) will know for sure. :happy2:
It might just need programming or something.

.
My VW dealer upgraded my whole heater unit to a Dual type as a freebie (I'd ripped out the sensor on snow/ice last February) and so I'm fairly sure you need more than just the front control panel.
EDIT: I stand to be corrected - See Garth's post following.

You do only need the control panel. I have upgraded mine from one without a dual button to one with a dual button. The functionality is the same as holding down the auto button. Very simple job although sometimes the panels need coding to your car. (I have replaced mine 4 times now!)

Your all getting a thankyou!
Many thanks :) :happy2:
