Probably the comparison between the GTI and GTD in a traffic lights GP?

  Yeah i guess.

I assumed the video was going to show that the GTD is a match for the GTI. Thank god it isn't  :pomppomp:

I imagine after a remap the GTD would be very quick though  :surprised:

To be fair, the extra 30bhp or so doesn't make a massive difference!

As MATT8586 suggests, I think the tables would be turned if the GTD was at stage 1 :happy2:

?!

are you not forgetting theres a stage one for the GTI too? and that the petrol would wipe the floor with it  :rolleye:  :signLOL:

Thats like saying Id beat Usain Bolt in a 100m sprint if i had a good enough head start!!

I was kind of missing the point of saying a tuned up diesel would beat a standard petrol, that would defeat the point of a comparison!  The biggest issue for the GTD is the weight of the diesel engine, it already has more torque than the GTI which at the end of the day is what give good off the line speed, horse power doesnt really count until you get up to speed and want to over-come wind resistance.

The biggest issue for the diesel is that it's 40bhp down on the GTI and has a narrower power band.

The 'diesels weigh more' argument is fast becoming a very out-dated belief. There's only about 10kg in it between GTI and GTD. Diesel engines arent the cast iron lumps they used to be.

I hadn't realised the weight difference was so small now, VW literature shows 20kg difference on front axle for DSG cars.

not really surprising from a standing start, everyone knows dervs are slow off the mark, a rolling start could have been much closer though

haha...nah mate, just pointing out that it would be a flawed comparison and a waste of time to think about mapping any of them.

Btw...im a diesel driver too ;)

I got the impression in the video( haven't a clue what they are saying) that the first race may have been standard vs standard. Second race GTD was mapped and raced against the standard GTI and then raced both mapped?
