anyone heard of this? seen one? had this funy badge saying wald under the gti badge?

Yeah I have seen one I think that the only difference between them and a standard GTI is they come with a remap  :happy2:

Aren't wald a tuning company? The Gti Wald got mapped up 35-45bhp

Not sure if anyone is still looking at this thread - but I just bought a Mk 5 GTI (07 plate) and noticed the WALD logo on the back. Asked the owner and he had no clue and said that it's just a sticker. Later I read through these forums (and online) to figure that my GTI might already be factory tweaked for an extra 40HP or so?! Thing is - I have never driven a Stock GTI before so I have no benchmark to what 200HP or 240HP feels like. My Mk5 does pack a punch, but then again, I've never driven a Turbo before, let alone a 200HP one! Is there any way I can easily check if my Mk5 already has a custom ECU map? I am visiting R-Tech in Leicester end of Jan for a Custom Stage 1 ECU+DSG so maybe it is worth waiting. I am just a little confused right now.

Easy answer: Yes, easy to tell by popping it to a tuner (such as R-Tech) and doing a rolling road power run. This will show the power output of your engine and if it's around 230-250bhp then you'll most likely have a remap, which R-Tech will do anyway to show a before and after power figures. If you're going to replace any map with an R-Tech one anyway (stock or after market) then I wouldn't worry too much right now about whether it is or isn't stock mapping.
