Title: Sold my car,update-new car ordered
Post by: Janner_Sy on January 05, 2011, 06:58:36 pm
well i sold my vRS last june but couldnt decide what to buy,. tried loads of cars but couldnt choose.  Was using the wifes 307 estate for the time being, so wasnt in need of a car really.  thats what she thought anyway.

What she doesnt realise is tonight i have sold her car and she'll be using public transport to get home.  she knew i was going to put it up for sale, she just didnt know i already had. :innocent:

So waiting on a price for a new Fabia vRS estate from my local dealer, since they have some good deals on at the moment,

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs.tf1.fr%2Fmmdia%2Fi%2F95%2F8%2Fskoda-fabia-rs-et-skoda-fabia-combi-rs-4236958axdxk_1379.jpg&hash=c34c0c98dc5a3315641dd53b1d3d5565b67811e3)

not the best looking geezer on the block, ideal for the wife though, plus Revo offer a stage 1 remap to 215Hp and are nearly finished with their stage 2.  i reckon with some choice mods (of which the mk4 chassis mods apparently fit which is handy)
im thinking white, with the optional black alloys and maybe roof...

But there is a Renault sport Clio Cup for sale down the road.......

the seat ibiza 1.4TSI's have been doing around 13.4 second 1/4 miles @ the pod with only a stage 1 map(215Hp) imagine with a stage 2.  That'd be ace if i could get 13.5 or less, Imagine the cars you could wind up with a little fabia estate 1.4 litre

lol, i dont actually mind it tbh, its the tax free deal, and 3 years free servicing thats making the fabia look good.  13k for a spankers 180Hp car with DSG isnt to be sniffed at.

Just looking at a clio 172 with uprated suspension, brakes, shocks etc.  Ready to track by the look of it :popcornsoda:, only issue is you know its been ragged.

Does it have to be the estate??

Can't see the fascination with how quick it can drag itself down a tarmac strip - What you need to be interested in is real world driving, living with the car on a daily basis.

Just phoned up about this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201050375472471/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/price-to/2000/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/model/clio/make/renault/page/1/postcode/me75df/radius/30?logcode=p (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201050375472471/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/price-to/2000/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/model/clio/make/renault/page/1/postcode/me75df/radius/30?logcode=p)

Mentioned that i highly doubted the performance figure as they make substantially less than stated power normally.  Then mentioned that the price was a bit ambitious, and before ive even looked at the car, i have got em down to £1600   dont know if thats a good or bad thing.  although in fairness most stock cars are similar in price with most less mileage.  so a modded one should cost less as its 100% been hammered.

could be worth a punt though

i could live with the estate easier than the hatch, think its better proportioned plus i have a dog.  i thought it drove OK as well.

its 11 years old so average mileage.  And i wouldnt pay 1600 anyway.  I like a barter .  it'd be a sacrificial car that no doubt would just get spanked on track throughout the summer.

I only normally drive about 300mile per month so its not got to cover distance.  this is a reason im not sure about paying all this money out for a new car that i wont drive it that much.

Car check problem points
Body: Panels easily dent; soft paintwork

Engine/Gearbox: Cold starting problems; engine hesitation; speed instability; faulty air pressure sensor; check for correct gearbox operation;

Other: Recalls for brake servos and front suspension arms; faulty airbag light; immobiliser and electrics problems; rattly trim; CD player problems; electric window niggles

for what is basically a polo gti, it is a stunning deal :happy2:  Makes me wonder how much profit (how much they are ripping us off) vw is making with the polo

The wya i see it, once you modify the suspension/engine, they are all on an even playing field then.

skoda are doing really well business wise, rumour has it better than the rest of the VAG range from what ive read on MSn links sometimes.  with seat being in sh!t street with their sales.

just goes to show how much you pay for a badge.  And it why i love the skoda.  When i bought my octavia vRS i test drove all the VAgs and immediately omitted the golf because i couldnt tell where the extra £2500 was being spent.  the cupra only stayed because it was alot quicker.  if only id known about k04 turbos back then lol

Looks nice!!!! But I guess your still a homo :P
im not a homo, ive just got some really gay tendencies

Completely agree!
Although i had absolutely no trouble getting 12% negotiated off a Polo GTi yesterday, seriously tempted!  :surprised:

std cupra TSI with interior stripped

stage 1 cupra 1.4TSI with interior stripped, cat back exhaust, KWs, intercooler water spray R888s

his motor loos rapido on track as well

his motor looks rapido on track as well.  this guy had a feature in this months redline.  racelogic performance times from bruntingthorpe were 0-60 5.4 secs, 0-100 in13.1secs.  the other cupra they ran with standard map hit 0-60 in 6.7secs, 0-100 in 18.5secs.

What size are the wheels, 17's? They look lost in the arches, maybe a drop will sort this...

Great all-rounder, if not a tad ugly lol  :P

I've just been down my local dealer and test-drove one, very nice to drive. Didn't realise they had a VAT free offer on aswell. They had a specced up one in their showroom they offered me for £13600 but there was no climate and it had black wheels and was blue with a white roof (not for me)! They are looking into the price of the S2000 model for me aswell. I've specced a seperate one up but he's looking into what build date it might be because it needs to be before the end of April to qualify for the VAT free offer! If he comes back with the right dates and the right figures I could be tempted!

dude!!!! thats two of you that have gone from renaultsport idea to skoda!!! :signLOL: to be fair i get the idea of the small engine with todays running costs, they seem a good buy for an all rounder at that money :happy2: still not got the soul of a little clio :P
Title: Re: Sold my car,update-new car ordered

I know, in the end the Clio just seemed a little (dare I say it) basic inside for when I'm on long journeys. Still not totally ruled out but to be honest, I'll probably end up in a MK5 GTI DSG (talk about going round in circles lol)

the way i see it, whilst the clio is the most dynamic in its class, the others(cupra/vRS/polo GTI) wont be too far behind.  Nothing that a few choice mods would sort out.  then when you bring in the running costs, the VAT free offer and the build quality etc its a no brainer to me.

Add a good rear anti roll bar (lots on the market already as the rear beam is identical to the mk4 ibiza cupra), some eibach springs(whichare skoda approved) and a stage 1 REVO+ intake(215-220hp) for less than £750 you have made a good car a very good car, which could potentially hold its own with the clio(maybe not the cup etc).  maybe some poly bushes to give some more feel to the steering could help.

Even with all these mods, it still works out cheaper to buy and mod than to just buy the clio.  I like the underdog

Cars getting built between 4-10th april.  So looking at a may/june delivery i reckon

Heres some cheeky little gains from the REVO stage 1.  REVO obviously thought it best not to fiddle with the supercharger settings.  Theres zero change below 3500pm which is where the supercharger operates.  maybe torque was an issue with it?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.revotechnik.com%2Fresources%2Fuploads%2Fnews%2F10-120246.jpg&hash=aab22e65998cd1a8b32aed0337fb5510fbcd1e04)

Miltek have released their turbo back exhaust and are now working with revo for the mapping now.  Come on the stage 2!!!

Post by: vRS Carl on January 22, 2011, 06:55:41 pm
There is a gap in the power as the supercharger quits at 2400rpm and the Turbo doesn't kick in until 3500rpm

Apparently this is done for efficiency and economy.
Title: Re: Sold my car,update-new car ordered
Post by: Janner_Sy on January 22, 2011, 07:04:20 pm
supercharger runs until 3500rpm.  turbo is always running as its driven by exhaust gases, but takes over fully @ the 3500rpm.

The reason for a twincharger engine is you can use a slightly bigger turbo and use the supercharger to spool it up, and therefore omit the lag

whats the insurance like on the skoda. On the bocanegra its silly cheap, dis some quotes for the GF and its a third of the price to insure compared to a clio sport or mini cooper s.

The bocanegra was 650, the MCS 1400 and the Clio sport 1500. Did one for her on the TTRS and it was 2800

theres a thread on SCN about the insurance.  they should be group 14, however it looks like DVLA have fooked up, as all the systems from insurance companies though to thatcham security databases all ahve it down as a group 4 insurance car.

They'll cotton on eventually though.
