Just wanted to say hi and introduce you to my R32. I have learnt lots already from this site and look forward to being an active member.
Was a tough decision between an ED30 and an R32 but the 4WD and engine noise and character won the day.............. So apologies it's not a GTI !
Picked up the R on 13th December, it's a 1 owner FVWSH 3dr 56 plate in reflex silver, with DSG - NAV - Sunroof - Highline Computer - Leather - Heated Seats - Arm rest - Ipod Prep - MFSW - Luxury Pack - Parking Sensors - winterpack - storage pack
I think the only options missing are cruise and the Recaro seats. I have just bought the Cruise Retrofit and am on the hunt for some seats. Mods wise some springs, 19"'s and a Milltek should keep me happy for a long while
Went everywhere in it the first few weeks and managed to get it filthy so a freezing wash was in order !

Only mod I've made so far is to do the auto boot pop mod which is brilliant !
And finally my Apex -30mm springs arrived yesterday :happy2:

Only kidding... nice r32 there!
-
Looks great, bit like my R32 wannabe, though you should be ashamed, I was led to believe it was impossible to make a silver GTI look dirty.
-
Niiice! :happy2:
I really miss my Reflex .:R!
-
nice looking 32 you got there keep it clean :signLOL: :happy2:
-
lovely motor :happy2:, do have a soft spot for an R, and silver 3dr FTW
-
Very nice :happy2:
-
Like it! I looked at a silver 3 door, but the dealer made it clear he didn't want my car and gave me a well below book part-ex offer for it and I walked. Probably a good thing really, as the missus had expressly told me to not get silver or 3 door!
-
Did the same decision making when choosing the Edition 30..... Thought the Ed30 would be more exclusive!
The boot pop is a mod i quite fancy......can you advise how and what bits are required...i have seen it somewhere else but cant find it now
Might get the wife an R32 instead of her Mini :signLOL:
-
Thanks for all the comments :happy2:
I found all the boot pop information on here !
This is what you need
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fbootpopparts.jpg&hash=d515df4aedc4341733a02ad75aac9992f881b0f4)
And here are the list of parts.
2 x 6Y0 827 550 C (Skoda Fabia gas springs)
2 x 1K8 827 761 C (Scirocco bumpers)
2 x 1J6 827 439 A (Seat Leon ball pins)
I got all my parts from TPS, and coding done at the Phirm in Hook where they also turned on one touch unlocking for all the doors and boot.
Postman came today

Definitely need more pics Monkey ^ Welcome.
The .:R looks extremely tasty and the mods you have planned are exactly the kind of subtle things I'd purchase :drinking:
-
Cheers ! Thanks for that, I spent less than I'd planned on the car so had a bit of left over budget so the mods will get done quicker than I'd planned now
-
welcome along mate. Euan from ed38 over here, Look forward to seing the mods on it.
-
Big fan of the R32 in silver - looks awesome! The boot is pretty sweet.. might have to invest myself!
-
Cheers guys.
Few things done this weekend, first one was to LED the puddle lights, they are my favourite gadget on the car but I didn't like the yellow light they gave.
First you have to push the mirror right back away from the door to access the allen key hole......
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fpuddleaccessscrew-1.jpg&hash=5b5eb33b33bee57960f95cbcca27fa4d2e5e3b97)
Then you can prize out the puddle section, I just used a butter knife.......
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fpuddleremoveal-1.jpg&hash=17e3ae1dc8eae97185525b65c2314ef44a399a3e)
Then pull the bulb out and put the led in. I had to trim the led edges down with a stanley blade to fit it back through the hole !
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fledpuddleinholder-1.jpg&hash=9d8a0737e6ae5c502c0b75c0ce875d9a2f164897)
This was the old bulb
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi183.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Foldpuddle-1.jpg&hash=2c7b674b286aa660ce7abdc81cee92da14e950b3)
And this is the new one
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fnewpuddle-1.jpg&hash=0f221f6b5be6bd7d5960f5b022df668c6a2e6a38)
Really ties in with the xenons now..........
-
ive got the puddles fitted too f**k me there bright leds, would you mind linking where you got em, wouldnt mind changing mine from yellow to leds. thanks
-

Another job I did was refurb my 19"s this weekend. When I bought them they were in pretty good condition but had 2 or 3 sections of chipped edge on each wheel, time is the problem here as my current Zolders have very worn tyres and need replacing asap ! So just had to do my best and get them ready for the new tyres to fit onto. Here is one as an example :
1 of the problem arears, cleaned up with scratch cleaner (from Paints4U) and tidied up ready to prime.........
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Frepairsection.jpg&hash=87cbeed376bfc2f48c1809c28463eaff7f4a4d53)
primed
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Fprimer.jpg&hash=4069800be4b780086cb86ad6e4aa3f1a277d7d56)
3 coats of paint and finished. Not perfect but much much better, up close you can tell but from a metre away you can not see it.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2Ffinalwheelrepair.jpg&hash=f8886c352bb68905f2b584e3a3c23d826c0b6a56)
There was about 14 of these little areas to do accross all 4 wheels so they are all done now, so tyres should be fitted today........ Fingers crossed they don't do any additional damage !
-
swap the link for your recaros........ ?

lol i wish i had recaros lol, thats one option is rare as f**k in a five door, only seen 2 cars with recaros fitted as a factory option and not retrofit, thought about gettting em but, lots of money and are hard to come buy, seen some for sale but are not in good condition, thanks for the link though
-
yeah I know, I wanted to get mine with them, I had a deal set up with a guy on R32OC he was trading his car in late Jan and we were going to swap seats and cash his way of course and he would trade it in with the standard seats. He pm'd me yesterday to say he's sold the car privately........ gutted :sad1:

think i know how the member is, did his car have porcshe 6pots on? oh well dont worry about it mate, some more will come up its just a matter of time
-
good guess ;-)
-
Fruity!
-
Had the springs done and they seem great, drop the car 30mm and haven't really affected the driving experience, it maybe a bit harder but not significantly so no problems there. I'll get some before and after pics up soon.
I've also been working on getting everything ready for the 19"s. All 4 hubs had horrible surface rust and the caliper clips on the front looked proper minging, didn't want this showing through my new wheels.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx35%2FFastmonkey%2FP1040928.jpg&hash=1708e48250e3541dc314119c730b2ddfb0392352)

So these have been cleaned up and painted back to silver.......... whilst I was at it I did the little arch liner screw mod to make sure my new tyres don't rub at all.
Unfortunately the wheel bolts don't fit the new wheels so needed to order up new ones before I can get the wheels on. Hopefully will turn up today.
In other news........
Got the cruise fitted with a very helpful member from here and love it, it's a must have option for me so pleased that is done.

Quickly get your 19s on, I really hate Zolders! And wash the beast, then post some more pics  :signLOL:

Just a quick question about the boot pop, the spring bumper stops, how do you adjust them? Mine are too long :-(
-

I wish I could ! The tyres on the Zolders are shot and the 19"'s have brand new tyres on but a supplier has poperly let me done on the new wheel bolts this week, they should be here today............... but I've heard that since monday. :fighting:

Stick a 3mm allen key in the bump stop and turn counter-clockwise until it stops. You can then compress the adjuster and then do the allen key back up.
Should sort you out, if you have the right stops ?

need a bit more drop!
-
agreed from a looks point of view but this is a daily, driven quickly (where possible) and I'm not wincing everytime I hit a bump, I've got my mk2 for that ! So 30mm is as low as it is ever going.
-
Looks like perfect ride height to me... i cant stand this "its gotta be as low as possible" attitude, its nonsence!
-

+1 everyone to their own but not for me if the tyre starts to disappear then she's to low ha
-
superb , the silver on silver just makes it look  :congrats:

Nice car. Mine is identical spec without sat-nav (yet) but does have OEM full leather heated Recaros - they are fantastic. They make the back seats completely useless though, they only tilt forward about 2 inches!
-
^^^ that's interesting, mine is a 2nd family car so I have to put car seats in and out the back so having insisted on 3 drs I might find it a real issue with the Recaro's then.............
-

Most definitely, I had to start putting my work laptop bag in the boot as it's too much of a pain trying to get it behind the seats in the morning!
You'd have to manually slide the seats forward to stand any chance of getting a child seat in there. But that's what more-doors are for. I dont need the rear seats but for skiing, MTBing, spending a lot of time outdoors, I need a 'useable' boot. And I cant drive my wife's TT as I'm male. And straight. And don't cut hair for a living. Oh and it's only a 4 pot so sounds crap! :P

Blimey I just struggle to put my bag in with the standard seats........... Still all that said I'll still get them if I can find a set, they are too cool to not have even if they will make life difficult !
-
I can't even be bothered to put my steering lock on as it's such a pain in the arse to put it behind the front recaro's.
Always worried about scratching the backs too. Though mine is a 5 door, gotta love it sometimes.
-
Been working on my mk2 a lot lately so the R has just been in daily service, but got some time on it recently to get the R Caliper clips fitted to the brakes the other weekend and the discs painted up properly and can't believe what a difference they make.
