Have a shufty at this thread:

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,19858.0.html

There's a video somewhere showing someone doing the conversion.  Looks pretty straight forward.

Hi
Easy to do, just make sure you can code your CCM to do it before spending on the parts.
Cost is about £55
A few things to consider
1. The boot will be much harder to close
2. In very Cold weather it sometimes struggles to open

I've done it to my car and love showing off at tescos :signLOL:

You're welcome.  Deffo looks like one of the less expensive mods!

I presume if it does stick you can open it manually without any problems?

It is a great mod... however it does make the boot lid fairly stiff to close!

Mine seemed to work 99% of the time!

I did it on mine and had to take them off again as the missus struggled to shut the boot! Seeing as she has the car 98% of the time I had to give in on that one...

Ian I think what your thinking is the auto boot open/close function on some of the better VW/Audi models where you just press a button and it opens/closes,  it could be done but probably expensive,

The above is alot cheaper and easier to fit

I'm lost, so there's two differant ways? I'd like it so you press the boot button and it pops open like on the video.

Never seen this before really want it now! As we all have the button on the key why can't it just be vag-com coded why do we need new struts? What are the scirocco bumpers you talk of?

Great link and thread making me spend again!

The boot 'pop' is just gained by changing the gas struts ect so when you use the boot unlock button they force the boot open, then you close it manually.

Darren was talking about the auto open and close you can get on audis mercs ect which I presume is a motor which opens and closes the boot.

Car is in Vw tomorrow, what should I ask them to activate to enable this? Has it a specific name on the computer thing? I have the parts ready to fit.

Cheers guys

There are 2 variations on the coding from what i remember... i had to do a bit of trial and error testing on my old MK5

Why do you have to change the bumpers to Scirocco ones? If its only the struts that make the boot open?

The sirocco bumpers are Sprung... whereas the OEM golf ones are solid! I believe that the sprung one assist the 'pop'!

From my understanding the poppers are open full so when you should the boot they are trying to push the boot open, so when you press the button then start it of by springing the boot open and then the struts do the rest?

Hope this helps you understand!

Anyone know the exact model these struts are off? And are they of the hatch struts or bonnet?

Appreciated
Simon

Safety wise < With the force, has ANYONE has a boot lid forced open? are the struts putting serious pressure under the boot lid? could this happen?

Also - is the boot lid, seriously hard to shut? is it now a two handed job if realistically?

Slightly stronger to shut but not too bad.can be done 1 handed easy
