Well, thought it time to have a progress thread or something along those lines!
Picked up my Edition 30 a week ago now
Heres how it came:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5290%2F5315700375_92653d5d96_b.jpg&hash=c19f770613ef55f2347d58d7bb248798c9412334)
(more pictures to come tomorrow!)
Spec:
2007 Edition 30 GTI
DSG Box with paddle shift
MultiFunction Steering Wheel
Highline Comp
MFD2 with iPod in Armrest
Auto-lowering mirror on reverse
10 Speaker pack
Parrot bluetooth installed
Rear parking sensors (factory fit)
Privacy glass (factory fit)
Im sure there are more extras that it came with, but I cant think of them at the moment! But all in all, a pretty high spec example. My only wish would be that it had the Xenons from factory!
Anyway after picking it up, spent a day de-tarring it and throughly cleaning it inside and out - needless to say its much much cleaner now!
So far, have bought a set of genuine VW rubber mats (all four), have replaced the wipers all round, and have spent most of today installing my nice active Blaupunkt sub that came out my Polo GTI
Service is coming up, and ill be switching over to T&D instead of longlife due to the nature of my normal drive to work etc. From what I can establish against ELSA, this service is going to be Oil and Filter, sparks, air filter, cabin filter and also a brake fluid change is due.
Ill try keep this updated as things develop!
-
Looks really nice mate :happy2:
-
Looks really nice mate, I love red for Ed30's! :happy2:
-
Hi Alex, lovely condition that car :happy2:
When you switch to T&D are you still going to use long life oil?
-
Welcome to the Red Ed30 club.Mine car is identical to your spec with DSG.. Just to wet the appetite, if you were thinking of modifiying your Beauty, just some small seeds to plant
Unmolested

Enjoy your stay and a warm welcome to the forum :happy2:
-
Cheers all
@steve niiice example bud! with regard to the headlights, noticed you upgraded to xenon. Did you fit the levelling etc, or was it just a headlight swap over? PM me if you like
-
Pm'd :happy2:
-
Oh yes and as for the T&D question - im not sure yet. TPS say Platinum 5W-40, but the concensus of opinion on here is to use Longlife III. Opinions?
-
Yes i would stick to time and distance, and use Castrol SLX longlife III (5w-30)
-
Then that is what ill do! cheers steve
-
Did the service last night. All went to plan :) Just fuel filter and rear brake pads to change now!
Seems that silly tool vw recommend using for draining the housing really isnt needed as you can just use a finger to open the valve for a short period!
-
lovely
-
what's the DSG like?
-
DSG is superb. Cant see myself going back to a manual now.
-
Little update....
Private plate on its way! Transferring it from my old car so Ill get some new pics up this week when the transfer is finalised with the wonderful DVLA
-
It looks superb! :notworthy: I'll keep an eye out for you around the Poole & Bournemouth area. :driver:
-
Aye you must - even more so considering ours look very very similar!
-
Little update....R32 Xenons and Kufatec adapters arriving today :D
-
Little update....R32 Xenons and Kufatec adapters arriving today :D
You fitting them yourself?
Do you have the self levellers? When I took mine in for an MOT they just adjusted the height for me, never used levellers on mine, cost too much.
-
The levellers and washers will be fitted in due course as funds allow :) If I do something, I do it properly - besides, Ive got till the end of the year to get it done!
And yes will be fitting them myself - im a qual mechanic ;)
Plus - ive just checked out this December 2011 Xenon thing, and its not official as yet. The official line is 'we need to look more into how to incorporate this into the test'. There is, as such, no official statement to say that they will fail - just that they are improving the test to help stop people putting HIDs into incompatible headlights. Some cars with factory HIDs dont have washers, and some even dont have auto levelling - instead they have incabin levelling on the dial.
-
Im sure it will. They've been trying to crack down on it for ages now!
Anyway...fitting them on Saturday :D with BiXenon functionality of course
-
Lovely car :happy2:
Im the same wish mine had come with xenons, but you can't win them all
-
non factory fit xenon s will fail mot from december this year , so if your fitting them make sure you fit the lot , levelling , washers the lot
His are oem xenons Candy, same as my set up and mine passed its MOT feb 1st 2 weeks ago thanks :chicken:
-
No Candy
-
Private plate now fitted :D Will get some pics this weekend
-
No Candy
chances are it wont pass next years MOT then mate , the rule has not been passed yet but a mate who runs an mot garage is pretty sure it will
I think your find its refering to HID kits and not genuine oem units but
we shall see then next year. :popcornsoda:
-
Anyways....back to my thread :signLOL:
-
Things didnt go quite to plan with the Xenons :( Fitted them, and did all the wiring, then realised that as the car hadnt been programmed, when the engine is running, the bulbs were registering as halogen instead of xenon and therefore flickering due to the wonderful CANBUS bulb monitoring system
So...had to take the headlights off again and put them back in the boxes till Tuesday when theyll get coded and refitted.
I guess not a wasted day in all, as I got the wiring all done to OEM standard, but its rather frustrating!
-
Fitted the xenons tonight with Daves (stokeballoon) help. Great to meet someone who cares about dubs as much as i do!
They look great :) Ill be sure to get some pics up on the weekend when its had a wash

Xenons really make a huge difference to the looks of the car. Alot more "get the F*ck outa the way" :signLOL:
What camera are you using?
-
Nice.......How is the plate personal to you , is your surname Zebedee?
-
Excellent shots Alex and the ED30 looks a treat :happy2:
 @ Steve's description of the Xenons. They are vibrant in daylight and a little aggressive, plus people can't mistaken your presence which I like from a safety point of view :happy2:
-
What camera are you using?
Nikon D80 (two of them lol)
-
Nice.......How is the plate personal to you , is your surname Zebedee?
It came on an old polo I had that had been imported from Ireland...i liked the plate, so i transferred it off and kept it :) Just takes the age away and looks nicer.
-
Cheers for the comments chaps!
Definately agree on the Xenons. Make the car look more agressive and definately make people move - i had someone pull over to let me pass the other night :signLOL:
Upgraded the bulbs to Osram 6000k ones the other day too so it has that cleaner newer Audi look :happy2:
-
Looks really clean in that photo :congrats: Where did you get your bulbs from out of interest?
-
HIDS4U a year or so ago. Had them fitted in my Polo GTI, so transferred them across :) Makes a good difference
-
Cheers :happy2:
-
...I feel it's right to now kindly ask for more pictures of the Xenons from different angles Alex please? :happy2: :jumping:
-
To enjoy the nice blue tint ?
-
^ :signLOL: To see how they compare really with the OEM bulbs, which I think I've got, although when Jay installed them we both noticed the bulb output is ever so slightly different in content and colour.
-
Ill dig some out. When i compared them last night to the OEM bulbs, they are quite different in colour! Pics to follow...
-
Some more shots of the Xenons

Does that help sell you the idea that they are the way forward :P
-
Fancy a photo session Alex?

Cracking idea! Ill text you and we can arrange

Cool, I'm off for 10 days as of now, so let me know :happy2:
-
That looks amazing - Very nice.
How hard are Xenons to fit to a GT? Is it a simple swap? - Has anyone done this?
-

will do :drinking:
You gonna come to the meet on the 24th :) Im hopefully gonna be going!
-

Its very easy to retrofit. I did mine last week. Just needs a loom to adapt the 10 pin car loom to the 12 pin headlight, and some wiring to the central convenience module to enable the bixenon high beams
-
It's my birthday on the 24th, so not gonna commit if Mrs has something else planned.
If nothings planned, then I will come along.
-
Another gorgoeus car Mr.Perkins :notworthy:
-
I aim to please :P
-
Bought a present for the GTI today...

Some bonnet sound/heat insulation seeing as it didnt have any and looked rubbish :signLOL:
-
Zenons FTW
-
oh yes. Once you've had them, you cant live without them!
-
Absolutely. They were a lucky addition when I bought mine, hadnt planned on getting them. I wont be getting a car without in the future now
-
Nice little touch with the bonnet blanket.
Have you got many plans for the ed30?
-
Nice little touch with the bonnet blanket.
Have you got many plans for the ed30?
He will have lots of ideas thursday :chicken:
-
Your a bad influence steve :P
Main plans are an RNS 510 at the moment
-
^ Right onnnnn Alex :drinking: You will adore the RNS if you like it half as much as I like mine.
Just caught up with the Xenon pics too - looking very hot. The bulbs you've got certainly give them an extra vibrancy :happy2:
In fact, my Xenons and RNS are probably two of my favourite mods :jumpmove:
-
Im sure I will :)
Aye they certainly do
I think they'll be mine too. MFD2 at the moment is great, but I really want to have full iPod control and 3D mapping. Almost seems a step back from my AVIC-D3 in my old polo gti
I think i need to have a play on one to see what they are like.
-
PM me your location and if you're close you're welcome to have a browse around mine :happy2:
I've got the MDI interface with the USB interface too and its very neat. I've not used the ipod MDI but hear its good.
-

Remap and exhaust ...... :wink:or bring your earplugs when your following me on thursday
-
Just remembered I wont be able to keep up lol!
Remap eventually perhaps...thats a wait and see. A friend of mine is a REVO specialist, so Im gonna get him to pop the demo map on for me.
-
Very nice looking car. :pomppomp:
-
Absolutely. They were a lucky addition when I bought mine, hadnt planned on getting them. I wont be getting a car without in the future now
Same here, or without highline, multifunction, heated seats, Sat nav, I could go on.
-
Looked great when you first got it Alex and getting better all the time mate! :happy2:
Just realised it was you that replied to my 'anyone gone from ed30 to polo gti' thread on the polo forum and that you were going the other way lol!
-
Cheers bud!
Aye it was me indeed. Fancied an upgrade but couldnt hack the price of a new polo gti, so went for the bigger brother :happy2:
-

Great choice! New Polo gti is a cracking car but it's out of my system now and the ED30 is staying put! :happy2:

Been doing some tinkering today
Went in for the coilpack recall earlier and walked out with four new coilpacks which I was pleased about.
Then got onto making some minor changes...who can spot what ive done!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5093%2F5500041096_2fc3664b11.jpg&hash=bc35a79da88336efba7a9f44fd0f7249b6ca8677)
Also treated myself and ordered a Rosstech Hex+Can USB lead from Gendan which should arrive on Tues as for how often I like to use it, borrowing one isn't an option
-
Was the coilpack work done under the VW used car warranty Alex?
Shame you're miles away btw  Did you get to use an RNS and move any closer to purchasing one?
The badge is a nice touch although I settled for the OEM + black one
-
It was done under Volkswagen Warranty according to the paperwork. The car is almost a year out of its original warranty.
Aye tis a shame. Perhaps...though after buying the VCDS lead I think I'll have to wait till next month or so
Bodywork is more important atm to me, and I'm probably going to get the front end resprayed along with Saint Steve after easter

Nice suttle mods Alex . :happy2:
-
Did some more cool things today :signLOL:
Fitted the S3 jacking points to the car as it will be useful considering I do all my own work
Arranged my RNS510...hopefully it will come at the weekend :happy2:
And finally, repaired my drivers bolster which had cracked:
It used to look like this (notice the wear on the bolster)....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5218%2F5515701558_8cd24121f8_o.jpg&hash=e62d96b4a752e7b2afa4078c559b4ad33577abb2)

Im rather pleased with the finish. Its very hard to tell I have recoated the finish at all
-
:congrats:
How did you manage to repair the bolster alex? What did you use?
-
Special leather repair kit :happy2:
-
Special leather repair kit :happy2:
Which "special repair kit"? :signLOL:
-
Looks a brave effort on the leather Al'. I wouldn't know where to start!
Good news with the RNS. You will use it every time you drive the car once it's in! :jumpmove:

A better photo by daylight. Im still really impressed at it!

Ye alright most of my own work :signLOL:
-
very nice on the leather kit,
where about's did you get the RNS from?
-
Cheers
Chappy on here mate
-
Ye alright most of my own work :signLOL:
Good work Alex :congrats:
-
Swapped the bootlight for an LED one earlier on, and put the 4300k D2S bulbs back in as the 6000k's had a reduced light output that I wasnt overly impressed with to be honest
Going to recoat the leather again later if I get time with a slightly lighter coating to blend it in better
And in other news, TBE milltek coming soon :signLOL:
-
Best place to hide the exhaust Alex, is under the car
-
Haha very true steve, but the tips are too different...it'd be noticed :signLOL:
Managed to blow the interior light fuse earlier. Bizarrely, the fuse number for it isnt listed in the manual so i had to take every fuse out to work out which one had blown!
-
Just don't clean the ready made dirty tips that your gonna inherit from Lee :signLOL:
He really then wouldnt spot it
-
Oh he would lol. He has a habit of cleaning them every time he walks past :rolleye:
-
New AD Canbus Gateway on order :happy2: No more battery drain here we come!
-
I saw the tips on Saturday while dropping a wheel off they didnt look overly dirty! And at least if you fit the Res section the noise wont be too dissimilar
-
-
New CAN Gateway and Milltek TBE purchased
Going to fit the CAN Gateway on the weekend, though I am slightly concerned I have received a 7N0 and not a 1K0 gateway, but both the seller and ETKA say it works in a Golf so we will see!
As for the milltek, theres some minor issues that need resolving under warranty, but one that is sorted, itll be all good :happy2:
-
CAN Gateway fitted...hasnt actually made any noticable difference apart from the fact I can now get the OPS system working when I get a chance. Amusingly, VCDS now thinks my car is a Sharan
Picking up the milltek downpipe at some point this week, so that'll be on at the weekend
In other news, ordered another EDITION 30 badge for the front grille as it looks quite good from what I have seen
-
haha!! I would guess that 7N0 is a Sharan part code.
Like 1K0 is golf and 3c0 is Passat :happy2:
-
Correct. 7N0 is the new new sharan :signLOL: Same electrics network though, so interchangable. Just gets VCDS rather confused :rolleye:
-
Sneak peak

More updates to come later this week!
-
They should be on the car not on the floor :P
I agree with you!
All going to plan, I *should* have the milltek TBE and the powerflex insert fitted by the end of Saturday

Fook me! you could read that from the moon.
-
Gti_mad's changed all his interia lights for LED's.
you don't need Floodlights in the j&h pub car ark, just ask him to open his doors ...
Whiter then White. :surprised:
-
Fook me! you could read that from the moon.
 I'm contemplating tinting the holders to dull the brightness down a little

Bit of dinoc

Thats a stunning photo there mate.
Mind sharing your Photo settings and or Editing done perhaps?
-
Cheers mate!
No post editing as such. Just a tad more contrast and definition in aperture
The photos have to be RAW for this to work properly though :happy2:
-
Update...
Fitted the Fiscon Basic Plus bluetooth kit earlier. Boy is it better than the parrot kit. Integration with the RNS510 is just fantastic as is the steering wheel controls and the highline in the dash panel
Well worth the pennies! Ill get some pics soon
-
Cheers mate!

Nice, but what camera, Lens, Aperture and shutter speed used?
Very nice going on your Bluetooth kit.
-
Two Nikon D80s, one with a Tamron F2.8 18-55 and the other with a Nikon 50mm F1.8
Photos were taken set at f2.8 for the foremost with a shutter speed of around 800-2000 as it was a bright day. ISO on 100
:happy2:
-
The fiscon Bluetooth really is superb. I think my favourite feature so far is the e-mfa add on
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5303%2F5594172861_52a4e57972.jpg&hash=c825eb8ee2171cab88743c9a2420e77668980a1c)
Now I don't have to wonder what the oil temp is!
-
Thats whats always tempted me about the Fiscon oil temp also something to watch when driving rather than the mpg have a 729B so cant add teh E-MFA! Will look forward to having a look at that at J&H
-
.
Remind me to ask you all about how to get all that useful info displayed when we next meet @ JnH :drinking:
-
That's pretty cool! How exactly is that achieved if you don't mind explaining :D
-
You need to install the Fiscon Basic Plus kit and enable it on the CAN Gateway as telephone, and providing you have a highline dash, it will all display :happy2:
Sure thing guys. One of the best addons I have done I think anyhow.
Integration with the RNS510 is just awesome. Full phonebook, dialling, call lists, presets, bluetooth streaming - even direct dial from the MFSW in the highline!
-

....All that has gone straight over my head. I have an Alpine SatNav etc and not a RNSthingy and I don't have Highline and I don't use a phone of any kind in my car. Shame.
-
I think it may work on midline...let me do some investigation. You got an MFSW robin?
-
^^^^
Yep, I got MFSW :happy2:
-
Wont work in Midline unfortunately needs full screen, if you dont have phone you can get the MFA+ as a stand alone box for the extra canbus info but it uses the phone screen on the highline insert so you cant use it with another phone kit that also displays on the display.
-
How much was it Alex?
-
Cheers Rich
Will PM you steve.
-
You can also now get OEM shaped microphones for the bluetooth kits to fit behind the grille in the centre light unit. The standalone unit MFA+ is about third of the bluetooth unit cost on the Kufatec site. :happy2:
-
Aye I was contemplating one of those Mics. The parrot kit used the same mic, which is already located up on the front of the center unit, so i just plugged it in to the new one and it works pukka (as its actually a parrot bluetooth chip underneath)
-

Yeah and can be updated in the same way for compatibility with new phones, oddly they do an add on to the OEM kits which is as expensive as the stand alone basic plus cant see why you would bother un-less it still uses the active mic of the OEM kits :stupid: Sell OEM and buy the normal unit surely!
-
Madness really! The basic plus is worth it just for its dash integration and the E-MFA extras it adds
-
Alex did you sort the model designation on the Can Gateway??? you can change it from Sharan which will be down has MPV to Hatchback which will change it to the golf its in the long coding.
Darren
-
I did, but as the gateway is 7N0 its always shown in VCDS as a sharan on the chassis type :signLOL: cant have it all i guess!
-
Modding is an illness i swear!
MDI in the armrest coming soon

That passage of text is truly brilliant :happy2:
-
That passage of text is truly brilliant :happy2:
You wont be saying that once you read it for the 8 thousandth time. :rolleye:
-
Well yes TC, I think thats true
-
Installing MDI adapters is evil....work has had to be postponed till tomorrow, and currently the car has most trim around the center console removed!
Bloody looms!!!
-
Least you will be well practiced when you help me do mine then :P
-
:signLOL: well see about that.
Factory iPod installs arent particularly easy to remove
-
Practice makes perfect Mr Perkins! :signLOL:
So its not as easily run as the retrofit loom then! :signLOL:
-
The old loom is staying now phew! Now to fit the mdi harness and put everything back together
-
MDI now all installed and working a treat. Happy days!
Though it did make me late for work putting the car back together at 7AM! :signLOL:
-
Good work  Easier to leave the old loom in than remove it then? :signLOL:
-
Oh yes. The loom is well and truly integrated into the interior loom of the car if you have factory CD/iPod prep - not something you want to be removing.
-
Quality German Engineering strikes again
I would be putting mine back to stock if I sold anyway so wouldnt be removing the loom. Would just need to run the new one I guess! :happy2:
-
Id probably just pop a changer back in mine :signLOL:
-
Easy option
-
Nice to See your spending hasnt stopped buddy :signLOL:
keep up the good work :happy2:
-
Indeed Steve. Youve taught me well!
-
:innocent:
-
So tonights mods...
It started like this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5183%2F5638784230_cffae3d4ec_z.jpg&hash=3a7540ef4f3cffc7f57dfd57179506c1841edfc9)
Progressed to this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5188%2F5638208211_4cf58d3c3d.jpg&hash=1165427e1797a31f8452d3bd755893280fc47dfa)
Then to this:

-
Looks really good that Alex. Thought about doing the wing mirrors?
-

I did think about it, but I quite like them being red. More for making black things carbon vinyl instead :signLOL:

Bit of sound deadening for the boot floor today...

-
Y u done that Alex ???
-
His Non Res Milltek is too loud for his little ears? :signLOL:
-
None of that Steve :signLOL: Its perfectly loud enough :P
Reason I did it was to improve the sound of my sub in the boot, as alot of the noise was getting lost into the floor, and now I get a much crisper sound :happy2:
-
Fort that mite have bin the case bud, but asked just incase it wernt lol
-
Touched in most (if not all) of the road rash on the bonnet earlier.
Will give it another coat Sunday depending on how well it dries, then itll be a flatten and machine polish to restore the shine back....fingers crossed it works as well as it has for me in the past.
-
.
I didn't know that Will Young's music was that loud
-

Where did you get your touch up kit from?! Is it a decent match?!
Couple of bits on my car could do with being done
Matt
-
VW mate :happy2:. Only place I would ever buy paint from, even more so for Tornado Red as its a hard colour to match
-
Took some new photos today
One of my favourites...

Also touched in, sanded back and machined the stone chips on the bonnet this morning - needless to say I am very pleased with the outcome :happy2:
-
You used double img tags there:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5225%2F5650739546_358daa855e_z.jpg&hash=472a3065a88dc30c04a8bea86fd5cd668fa2c16a)
-
And then you did a ninja edit!
-
You were quick to spot that - i changed the image instantly lol!
-
Anyway, love the pics. When I lived down south, I always wanted to go to the New Forest in my GTI but never got the opportunity. Which part of the Forest did you go to for the pics?
-
Cheers dude
Just out past burley. Was called Nomansland :signLOL:

Lots of little updates to come in the next few days
Got some great photos with my mates mk2 Golf GTI so watch this space :happy2:
-

-
Lots of little updates to come in the next few days
Got some great photos with my mates mk2 Golf GTI so watch this space :happy2:
Looking particularly forward to this dude :happy2:
Do the little updates perhaps include spacers and a drop? :P
-
No spacers and no drop if afraid pete :P
Just little changes here and there
@John. Menzerna power finish and then final finish
-
thanks for that mate. Bought loads of different products and they never work that well. So just bought both of them haha :happy2:
-
You will need a machine polisher though! :signLOL:
-
Which polisher do you have alex?
-
Kestrel DA1 - cleanyourcar.co.uk's one
Great polisher at a great price. Got some brilliant results on my old car with it
Plan to do the ED30 some point later in the summer when I get a chance
-

I hate to say a drop and rear spacers of some calibre would look exceptionally good on yours
I'm guilty of not dropping mine enough, which is perhaps worse than not doing so at all
Had you machine polished previous to the picture above with Steve's? Looks excellent.

Neither cars were spotless Pete, when those pics were taken to be fair.
They were covered in dust/pollen from our shall we diverted trip that day
-
Aye maybe maybe. Ill think about it :P
Nope hasnt been machined yet at all apart from a light cut on the bonnet to clean up the sanding marks.
Some new photos then...

You could never tell from the pics Steve to be fair
I always feel like everyone else takes pics seconds after a MP detail and I'm the only one to snap when the GTI's covered in sh*t!
Aye maybe maybe. Ill think about it :P
 I'm sure they'll appear on your list somewhere....
The photos so far are wood material.
You can't preview that much and delay us any longer..... :popcornsoda:
-
Yes...my never ending list!
What exactly is wood material :signLOL:
Oh I can haha. I need to get photos of the little mods first!
-
Added you on flickr! :happy2:
-
Good man :happy2:
-
Headlight washers ordered :happy2:
-
I have to say Alex you've got yourself another great car there with the Ed30.
Always enjoyed following your progress with your Polo over on UK Polo and it looks like you have worked your magic again on this one as well. :happy2:
Big fan of that Mk2 as well.
Jon
-
Cheers Jon.
Work in progress on this one, difference being the parts cost more :signLOL:
Thanks mate...though it was a mk3  Sadly someone rear ended it not too long ago so I was told which was a real shame but hey ho what can you do when its not yours any more
-
Alex quick question, what's with your odd number plate? Obviously it's a private reg, any meaning behind it?
Thanks
-
Nice.......How is the plate personal to you , is your surname Zebedee?
It came on an old polo I had that had been imported from Ireland...i liked the plate, so i transferred it off and kept it :) Just takes the age away and looks nicer.
Forget I asked :signLOL:
-
LOL i just typed almost the same thing again haha :drinking: good one George :jumping:
-
Cheers Jon.

My bad, I really should of known that as my mum had one for 5 years. Shame about the accident though, sad to see a good car end up that way.
-
Headlight washers ordered :happy2:
Good news :happy2:
OEM look FTW.
Beware of them staying slightly ajar in the winter when they freeze like mine have
-
Hi Al!
Brilliant thread you got here mate! Where did you get the Headlamp washers from and, have you ordered the levelling kit for it? If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the Car Vinyl wrap from? I've also PM'd you! :happy2:
-
Cheers mate
I got some bits from ebay, and the rest direct from VW via TPS...I have a good friend there so I get things at a great price!!
Levelling kit is coming in time, but not atm as its too expensive and frankly not needed till the MOT time comes round (if at all)
eBay - just search 3m Dinoc :happy2:
kl will check

:stupid: :signLOL:
-
Hi Alex
You kindly advised me of the leather repair kit recently which I have since purchased and used on my bolster with great results :happy2:
However, looking at your pic you seem to have a shine/laquer over your repaired area whereas mine is matt after applying the repair......have you used something else to get it back to it's original state after applying the repair kit?
-
Hi mate
I did go over it with a leather cleaner and leather treatment after a few days just to get a bit of shine back into the finish
-
So a little update...
Bought some little GTI inserts for the seat height adjusters
Bought a forum sticker
Greased up the rear brakes to stop them squeaking as its doing my nut in
Ordered up my headlight washer kit. Just waiting for the loom from Kufatec and then its all ready to install
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm3.static.flickr.com%2F2572%2F5765458722_1e77a7e7d6_z.jpg&hash=10e96ffb6e73d630523edff046e2fcac4658678a)
and finally...
Bought some new center caps for the wheels too
Lots more exciting stuff to do...just waiting on time and money to get it done!
Next mod I think will be R32/S3/Cupra R front brakes to increase the stopping power :happy2:
-
Hi mate
I did go over it with a leather cleaner and leather treatment after a few days just to get a bit of shine back into the finish
Nice one, will give that a try but already pleased with the results and you have to look quite close to notice anything.
-
Now im in a bit of a dilemma
I want to replace the Passenger side outer light cluster as its got a funny crazed effect on it that wont come out.
Do I...
A - Buy a new unit from VW for about £70
B - Buy the LED rear light clusters and replace the whole lot instead (not sure of cost on this lol!)
-
A is cheaper, but how deep are your pockets
-
A is most certainly cheaper, and my pockets are deep but Im not sure if I can justify it, plus im not sure im so keen on the clear centers on the LED ones :signLOL:
-
A is most certainly cheaper, and my pockets are deep but Im not sure if I can justify it, plus im not sure im so keen on the clear centers on the LED ones :signLOL:
....Well, when cmdrfire manages to progress the Valeo LED mod the clear centre issue will be solved.
What you spend perhaps depends on how long you plan to keep the car. But be warned that spending a lot on mods then encourages you to keep the car!
-
Thoroughly cleaned the wheels and calipers today  Rather impressed with the finish

Also carbon vinyld the rear badge, fitted my new center caps and done a few more small mods.
Plus ordered a new custom sticker...all to be revealed soon
-
Good work Alex! Your wheels look great :happy2:
-
Todays little mods....
Finally the missing bumper moulding arrived from Germany, so I got painting. Three coats of primer so far. Tomorrow Ill rub it down and lay the base coat on

Added some heat resistant vinyl GTIs to the calipers which look pretty cool I must say....excuse the dirty wheels though!

And finally, installed my custom GTI foot rest insert (custom as it does not bolt into place). Very OEM looking I think

The mk2 looks very tidy. :happy2:
I think there's been a misprint on that sticker, should definitely read 'SILVER' not 'RED'.
I wonder how long before Steve gets one of those.

Time for an update...boy has it really been over 2 months since I did anything!
Finally got around to spraying up the headlight washer covers which have come up rather nice...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fhphotos-ash4.fbcdn.net%2F332119_10150263125737470_504737469_7919371_1378323_o.jpg&hash=ccfb142c605e7a5b717ca87fa2e676b610cbf58d)
In honesty I haven't really changed anything else at all apart from keep it clean!
Im gonna take it off the road for a few days in a couple of weeks to give it a top to toe detail and DA it so she's nice and shiny (and protected) for the months to come

Them S3 braking plates neaten up the caliper dramatically.

So that's why your run sucked polo mints up front Steve?? Don't want the misses to cotton on to the fury of turbo'd power that lays beneath?

-
Looks good
-
How do you find the RNS510 for music quality? Is it hard to add music to the hdd and is it accessable like it is on an ipod?
-
I think its brill for quality mate
Not hard to add music if you go down that route, and yes its easy to access
-
Well, I dont seem to have updated this for a while!!
So alot has happened in the last few months...
I sold the Mk2 Golf GTI :sad1:
I bought a Mk5 Polo GTI :driver:
The remap completely messed up and had to be reloaded
A spark plug failed
The PCV system failed
I fitted the headlight washers for the xenons to OEM spec
I fitted the auto levellers for the xenons to OEM spec
My milltek downpipe bracket sheared in half just before where the cat is
All in all its been pretty busy on the Eddy!
I have been working on my Polo 6N2 GTI project which has been taking time and money away from the golf, but thats pretty much finished for now at least.
Last weekend was spend doing the levellers, which I must say is the biggest pain in the ass of a job imaginable. Let alone the fact you have to extend the loom, but the fact Kufatecs instructions are piss poor telling you to connect the wrong wires onto the wrong pins, use fuses that dont exist, and code modules that this car doesnt even have!! But I got there in the end.
I recommend nobody buy wiring from Maplin - its rubbish, and the tinned copper they use makes can bus communication very unreliable. I had to rip it out, and replace it with good quality copper wiring instead.
I havent driven her on the road since November as I have been too busy to get the levellers done, then the MOT lapsed so it wasnt a good period! Needless to say it sailed through the MOT today with no advisories :D It does however look like 4 new tyres are on the cards as they are starting to get low, so thats a purchase once the weather warms up a little
Oh, and it needs a bloody good clean, an oil change, and a DSG oil change in the summer :signLOL:
Now to go and reload the remap....
-
Thats an arguable point :signLOL:
Plastic often ends up a different shade when it comes to red especially, but I believe at some point it may have had that section resprayed, though I see no signs of any spray work being done so who knows!
-
Only asking because mine is/was the same. It is being resprayed today to match up as it was bugging me. After seen your picture I might have been wrong to respray it as it is a tad different.
-
Its quite possible its the same on yours then.
I do find it a little irritating, but not enough to warrant the dollar for getting it resprayed, and even then, theres no true guarantee itll match
To support the argument, my brother is getting a new candy white polo, and from factory the bumpers and other plastics like mirror, petrol cap etc are all a very slightly different tone of white - odd isnt it.
-
Definitely not. Thats a pretty good price for that! Wish I had a mate that did cheap spray work :signLOL:
One of of my headlight bulbs failed last week, but it was replaced under warranty so im happy now. Auto levelling works a treat so its all good.
Did the oil change on the weekend too so thats good for another year.
In other news, gonna get the Pescaras refurbished but am struggling to decide on the colour. It stands somewhere between original BBS silver and more of an audi dolphin grey (grey metallic)
Thoughts anyone?
-
The dolphin grey is nice... how I had mine done, and if the paint finish was better would have kept... Don't get that guy in Salisbury to do them!
