Title: Problem with RVC - with error code
Post by: stealthwolf on February 14, 2011, 03:32:56 pm
Had it fitted by SteveP several months ago. Since then, it's been brilliant. A couple of times, it's not worked but this is rectified if you select reverse a second time.

Yesterday it was fine in the morning but in the afternoon, it didn't work and it's still not working today. If I select reerse gear, you can hear the mechanism working (and the camera pops out). The screen changes to the camera screen but it's blank. Plain black except for the menu on the roght which allows you to alter contrast, brightness etc.

Running 2720 (I think, or at least latest FW) sice Dec '10, RNS v B.

Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting the RNS?  Press these three buttons all together.. '<' and '>' top left and 'i' top right.. I think that's right!

I've had it happen once or twice with mine..

Cheers

Paul.

The RNS reset above worked for me. Also might want to check the obvious i.e. no dirt / cr*p on the camera itself.

I've tried the reset several times to no avail. The camera looks fine.

The only other thing that gave me this problem was when I was installing it the connector into the badge camera wasn't secure. Worth a look ??

I've had it for almost a year (installed in March 2010) without problems. Don't know why it would suddenly go blank now.

Ran VCDS this morn (took it with me to work!).

Can't post entire code as on iPhone but error is:

02873 - control module for back-up camera (J772)
004 - no signal/communication

Any ideas?

That looks like a loose wire, either at the camera or at the back of the stereo, does the power feed for the camera have a separate fuse? could be worth a check.

I had a problem with the connector on my accelerator pedal putting the car in limp mode, it turned out the connector was not properly plugged in. This was after nearly a year of ownership, so don't rule it out, you never know it might not have clicked in properly and has been jarred out by bumpy surfaces.

Okay, after much faffing around, I managed to rip off the boot trim. Checked all of the connections and they seemed fine. Couldn't see anything that was loose.

Ripped open the rns510 and checked the connection there - secure.

Still no joy. Any ideas?

It could be something on the loom in the boot, let me know when your free some over the next few weeks and I will swap it over for you  :happy2:

Thanks mate. Will PM you about dates.  :happy2:

Also had a gander at the drain pipe. Hacked a megs' bottle straw and it seems to fit perfectly. It'll do for now.

Might be one of the 3 wires has come off the camera.  Its quite common because the wires are really tight so when the camera the wires get pulled too, over time it will cause damage.

Basically what retroraz posted. Ended up replacing the unit. The downside with the new unit is that the picture is gone as soon as you select first gear. With the old camera, the picture stayed for a few seconds whilst you pulled forward.
