Called up three dealers today to get the price for a 40,000 mile service. The garages were all from the VAG group and I wanted just to compare prices. In the past I have managed to get a discount from my local dealer just by asking if its the best price that they will do. This time the won't budge saying its tariff priced servicing.
Quote 1: £249
Quote 2: £277
Quote 3: £358
The cheapest was from the VW dealer the other two were from Seat dealers... I would have thought that it would have been cheaper servicing at a Seat dealer.
What prices have other people been quoted for this service?
-
I can't believe the difference of those quotes from vag outlets !
-
Had my 40K service done 2 weeks ago at my local VW dealer, Longlife service with spark plugs and DSG service all in at £390
Break down of the invoice shows the servicing part (without DSG service) to have been £231 :happy2:
-
The first price is a fixed price service and imo is good value from a main stealer, before this scheme came in I paid around £400 for the 40k service + brake fluid change.

Correct it's the fixed price service offer @ 249.00
If you wanted longlife then costs will rise due to oil they use on longlife, the reason that the Seat price would differ is because it's the VW brand doing the offer and not
Seat, Good value the fixed price services at the mo

I've always found my local VW dealer to be very flexible even on the fixed price servicing, 43K Longlife with plugs for £231 :happy2:
-
I've got mine booked in next week, but opted for the £349 for 40k service, and the 50k service, and 2 free MOTs, then got the £169 for DSG service, brake fluid change, £299 for the timing belt and water pump............ :fighting:
They then had the neck to say I had to pay £12.50 for a courtesy car, which I prompted to inform them they are having a laugh, and she agreed that it was fair that she didnt charge me for it

They tried to charge you for the loan car! That's odd! We do have the option to charge and it is 12.50 but I didn't any dealer did! We don't charge as long as they refill the car of the fuel they've used! Doesn't cost us anything to give them out free of charge, at least they never charged you in the end :congrats:
-
I've always paid this fee. The car itself is free, but its for the insurance. If I try and add the courtesy car to my insurance they want at least £20 so its cheaper to take the dealer insurance. Apparantly most insurance co's don't charge anything to add a courtesy car to the policy for a day but Admiral do :sad1:

The car will be covered by the garages insurance the extra they try and charge is normally for the excess waiver, as the excess on the coutesy cars is normally £200-300 which your liable for.
-
It was for the insurance, but I thought £830 was enough to pay, thought a freebie of some sort could be had. Brentacre always charge a minimum of £25 everytime I phone up

Just had a 40k done at VW Chelmsford! With a bit of bartering i got them down to £383 that was a major and DSG service. I also had a moan and they ran a diagnostics check as they stated they didnt do this as a matter of course!!! :surprised:
DSG now runs smoother than ever and having stage 3 mapping and the car coming back with a clean bill of health is always good news! :congrats:
-
Does the timing belt not need doing at 4yrs/40k miles? Thought it did?
-
Not sure! The only thing they called for was that i need new Discs at the front and a fluid change as got a set of R32s ready to go on!! :P
-
Do you have a 60 000 service? my car just went 61 000, I had a full service at 55 000 last April, so it could just do with an interval service, unless there is a 60 000 mile one that people would advise me to get done.
-
That will be another major, every 20k! not sure what they do! Prob not a lot like most!!!

It should either need a service at 65K miles or in april, which ever comes soonest.

Luckily i will escape the expense of the belt change until either Dec 2013 or 87K as i had the belt, tensioner and waterpump on warranty at 27K, phew! :scared:

Alright mate you over by Chelmsford then? I went to VW Chelmsford for the Cambelt / DSG but not going there for the service as they want too much, tried Colchester VW but same sort of price, going to the guy round the corner local VW Tech £150 lol.
-
Funny you say about vw audi tech, the owner used to be chief technician at the very same VW, very good bloke called Jamie! I would have gone there for all the work bu didnt know he was solo! Anyway that said, its going in today for the cam belt to them! Fed up giving VW the work and money!!

Fortunately my mate is a mechanic at the local VW Dealers, super handy being able to do VAGCOM scans and even using the ramp sometimes if the workshop is open but he's not working. I'm taking my car in on Sunday for a Cambelt Kit, 40k mile Service, DSG Service and fitting my S3 Brakes.
Getting all the parts at cost price to the dealer, oils for free and labour for beer tokens! Shame he's changing jobs and leaving on June 20th, i've a long list of foreigners for him before he goes
