Hi
One of the first things I've done as I've just bought a MkV GTi is to get a new head unit to replace the old RCD300. I've heard lots of comments regarding software/firmware upgrades, power drains etc but cannot seem to get a definitive answer. So here are the facts - can any one offer any advice?
I've bought a 2008 (March) GTi with factory fit RCD 300.
I've also bought an RCD 510 from (I've been told, ) a Mk6 Golf.
I've asked VW if I need a canbus upgrade or anything else and they say no. However it may need a firmware upgrade? I'm not entirely clear on what these are.
I'm having the headunit installed by an auto electrician at the same time as having a Parrot CK3100 kit fitted.
Does anyone think I will need anything doing to the headunit?
Should I need any updates/upgrades?
Do I need to go to my local VW dealer for anything?
The spec codes on the unit are -
VW MID RVC UP1 BVX
FD 0110
HW 040
SW 0167
Serial starts VW 3C8 035.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Finally, does anyone know what plugs into the rear Video port? Is it just for the optical reversing camera or can anything else go into it?
Thanks.

With a 2008 car you should I am 99% sure you will be fine but still best to check the version of the CAN gateway as this is what causes the battery drain.
The RCD can't be firmware upgraded like the RNS.
The video in port is for a rear view camera :happy2:

Thanks. Do you know how I would check the can gateway then?

Either look at the sticker on the box, or VCDS the car
