Just noticed an area where you could improve the car massively - hide the Arnold Clark logo on the numberplates! :star:
Title: Re: My Mk 5 R32 Tornado Red
Post by: stu_no_1 on February 24, 2011, 10:03:12 am
Wheels are gloss black painted by Jrm coachworks at roseburn in Edinburgh
The Arnold clark number plates will be staying till I get a private plate no point changing them just now the tax disc holder is still an Arnold Clark one and so are the floor mats so these are all due to be replaced soon enough lol

Looks good mate, if you enjoy your miltek LOUD I suggest you get manifolds and sports cats aswell the noise is nothing short than awesome. I had mine fitted this weekend along with stage 2 revo and it's made a nice difference both to performance and noise

What else are you running with the stage 2 Revo? what do you think of it? I am hoping for a blueflame to be delivered some time soon and hopefully after that get myself sorted with a stage 2 revo too!

Right not updated this in ages so here goes
Grill swapped for a standard one and stripped into pieces and smoothed and repainted properly
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F313029_186178951454085_100001859437564_440235_7959081_n.jpg&hash=242941681567218663906a74c6b83cfffa1a501e)
Exhaust surround smoothed and painted Gloss black
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F306782_186216124783701_100001859437564_440352_5188178_n.jpg&hash=c6ce3a4605c17ad58eabad1001e4f2337f6d96ed)
Then i was on the look out for some wheels nearly bought a set of pescaras from a gti edition 30 but then i saw a set of BBS Rc's in 5x112 fitment in a bit rough condition
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FIMG_0438.jpg&hash=8557ce73ac0d4edf343f21ca27f7d1ca72e4177c)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FIMG_0439.jpg&hash=a18d7d4f6694c0979fc5cac84140d798577ee064)

I bought some brand new centre caps for them as 1 was missing and 2 of the 3 were not fit to refurb lol
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FIMG_0444.jpg&hash=64bd92271d18c32a4cce4939b217618130c7e135)
I then tried them on my car to find i had major rubbing as they are et 32 and 8.5j i thought 225 tyres would have been enough stretch to give me clearance obviously not.
So i got 5mm machined off the front wheels as this was the main area that rubbed and i bought some 215 40 18 toyo proxes t1 sport.
Then it was off to mike the polisher in glasgow, I originally wanted them polished but then decided to go for a chrome powdercoat to replicate the original ball burnished finish.
Here is the result
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash4%2F405421_257474220991224_100001859437564_636510_46517190_n.jpg&hash=14ddce2e7ee9f74e440cb0a8cbaa3540d7d16fdc)

In the photos they look more like silver but in real life there is more depth
and finally the pictures of the wheels on the car

Future plans are full respray to get paint perfect and to smooth roof aerial , full retrim in half leather half alcantara with red stitching on the side bolsters, US spec rear bumper for the shortened plate recess and maybe coilovers

Why so severe??? Why not just wet sand if it's stone chips your trying to rid of?

Or was there dents that your photos don't show?
Title: Re: My Mk 5 R32 Tornado Red
Post by: stu_no_1 on August 01, 2012, 09:52:02 pm
Car was ruined at the front end with stone chips, so I would have to respray the front end. I'm getting the front arches rolled for piece of mind that I won't rub with the low offset and being lowered on coilovers now, the doors had a few dings , the rear quarters had rubbed through the paint from when I first fitted the wheels with 235 tyres (never again lol) the roof I wanted the aerial smoothed off the rear bumper is getting replaced with a us spec one and it would be a bit silly to not spray the boot hatch when all the rest is getting done

Well on Saturday I done a deal with a guy to swap his leather recaros for mine plus a wee bit money his way, so 3 o'clock on Saturday I went round to the unit and half an hour or so later the car looked like this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2F2E1D9BB7-DB7D-4455-B4CD-715E78216DB2-575-0000003E422EE9F5_zps3d7a4126.jpg&hash=e1e2b238a0511be9a6bd5b51dc525341db10bc48)
I took the time to Hoover under where the seats go and gave the cloth seats a wee Hoover up for the boy
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FF98752BF-9591-4073-90A9-04E4257BA1F5-575-0000003E61161BB2_zps183fdf57.jpg&hash=545256a2d619e05d5a1e105510f3bfad4c842b18)

And a few hours waiting about the guy showed up with the goods and I got them fitted

Couldnt get any door cards in leather so decided to strip mine out and send them off to transcal for some leather and red stitching
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FIMG_1294_zpsf73a3f70.jpg&hash=713362b775d0f2b7aa3a8c76061a438d85b9aed7)

and while it was in i thought id send away the dsg shifter for a retrim too with red stitching and i picked up an edition 30 handbrake cover
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy204%2Fstu_no_1%2FIMG_1321_zps39eb273a.jpg&hash=7f271b64e6b9442b67259cbd6029ed7f3d9c2380)

Nice work mate. Fantastic work on the wheels. Definitely nicer in silver but I have never been a fan of white wheels. Don't suppose you have a link to the seller on eBay that does the legal short plates do you please? I have been looking at getting a private plate and will need a short one doing  :happy2:
