Title: cars at vw broke
Post by: madman on March 01, 2009, 05:57:37 pm
Went to pick the tea up on friday night and doing 60mph when it started to jurk very bad. Engine light came on and sounds like a old tractor  The car is fireing on 3  insted of 4 i think. Looks like the coil pack has gone (i think) so took it to vw first thing sat morning and they cannot look at it till monday so will find out tomorrow. If it is the coil pack would that be coverd under warranty and if not how much£££. It has not run right scince i put the bluefin on back in jan and has just had its 2nd service last week... All help will be welcome :happy2:

Do I recall problems with coil packs and that they need replacing during warranty or am I making things up again?

Coil pack out of warranty is around £50ish, but you're within warranty. It's literally a twenty minute swap once they identify which pack it is. If you're hardcore you can identify which one it is by the beat of the engine (i can't remember firing order right now, too tired ><)

Several people that have had coil pack failures have found that shortly afterwards a second has failed.  It may well be worth putting a spare in your boot for future use.  IIRC they are circa £26.

It really surprises me that VW only provide one year breakdown cover when Skoda, Audi and I think SEAT provide three years.  If it were the case a large number of the VAG techs carry spare coil packs on their vans.
