Hi,
I read on one of the VW forums awhile ago (cant remember where, ive tried searching) that someone posted they bought what I think was some kind of spanner extender so that your less likely to slip and damage the alloy. Anyone got one or know what im on about...
-
do you mean a tall socket extension?
-
I have one of these they are plastic. Basically its a 3 to 4 inch peg with a thread on the end you screw it in first then locate the wheel over it. They are hard to find on the system for VW service tec's I think the chap found mine on the phaeton page.
They are very handy. i would recommend them. :innocent: :happy2:

Can you post a pic? Do you have a part number?

No and no, is the answer to your question, sorry, your probably better going to an Audi dealer and just describe it as a wheel locator hold me onny kinda thingy.
one of the etka boys may be able to get you the part number.
-
Are you talking about the VW equavelent of this, http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=3415&xSec=931 ?
-
Thats the one! Thanks, I probably described it completly wrong! Any idea if you can pick these up off ebay or from VW direct?

Go to your VW dealer and ask for part no 7L0 012 233. It should be the wheel assist for the Touareg and shouldn't cost much over £4 iirc.
-
....
I use one of those and always insist the mechanics use it if removing any of my wheels. They are very good. Mine's aluminium (or metal).

Yes, I think it's an essential piece of kit to keep with in the boot with your spare wheel.

great, looks like another trip to the dealers for me. I should have got one of these moons ago! Mind you, i fitted my jack pads today. sorry to hijack...but when i put the front jack pads in today, i inserted them to a oval shaped hole that was located behind a plastic panel with two t20 screws? Is that right?

If it looks like TT's pic below then you are good to go.

Just out of interest guys, I've been reading a thread over at VWVortex about these lifting pads. Apparently they are designed for lifting the car completeley off the ground by using all 4 at the same time. A couple of guys over there have used a standard trolley jack to lift one wheel only using these jack points and have either crushed the plastic jack point or damaged the metal part it sits into. Apparently there's too much weight in the Golf for just one of these to take the weight, it needs to be spread out over all 4 at the same time.
Just a heads up.....
-
ah great! haha!
i think ive put mine in the wrong place. how the hell am i going to get that out?
-
Jay did you use the trolley jack to insert it properly. :innocent:
-
yep, ive had the car up now, with the inserts in place. the front is on axle stands. the hole i used is just a bit set back from that one in the photo. its beneath the more rectangular panel with 2x t20 bolts!
-
I reckon Micsta's teeth will come out easier than those babies. i reckon warming them up is going to be your best option.

This thread Jay links to others that may help.
-
i might just put the panel back on over the plug and buy two new ones! i dont wanna risk damaging it pulling it out, and not going back right into the correct hole
-
You could get a little jig saw blade and cut it out from the middle should be fine.
-
i was thinking a blow torch myself to melt it out! ;)

Just called VW, can you check that part number for me again, I think its 7L0 012 223 rather than 233 at the end?
Thanks

Get yourself a decent bar and one of these, instead of the "widow maker" wheel brace too. The socket is covered in rubbery nylon, so won't scratch.

In your part numbers above, are they the ones for the lower set of photos i.e. the front mounts complete with the undershield blanking piece, or the upper photo i.e just the rubber plug where you have to remove the under sheild cover ?
Also, would these be available from VW or only from Audi Dealers ?
-

Yes !! Complete as shown on the pics I posted except the yellow stickers, that are homemade.

That doesn't matter. All VW- and Audi-garages should sell these items, maybe even Skoda.
The only difficulty when fittig ist to extract the old plastic pieces on the front.
I needed my complete 85 kg . . .
-
I think you will find that VW, Skoda and Seat can't look those parts up because they are locked out from doing so.
I asked my parts man at VW about them and he couldn't even view them for this reason.
Just go to an Audi dealer or somewhere like TPS.. :happy2:
