Title: Possible issue with turbo!
Post by: madmcmonk on March 21, 2011, 08:37:43 pm
Hi, I am getting what seems like a bit of lag on my turbo, its responsive through low revs (around 1500-3500) but then doesn't continue through the rev range as normal. Am I going mad or could this be a issue with the turbo! The golf has done 28,000 miles and has recently had a major service at a vw dealership. Any idea's??

I'll tell you what everyone else on here will say. Have a check of your divertor valve. It will almost certainly be that. They are extremely prone to deteriaton, especially being 6 yrs old.

An easy fix and costs around £46 from your stealer dealer. ( it is the revision D that your after)

What engine do you have, plenty of issues with diesel turbo's on here but very few with GTI/ED30, if it's not a diesel then Keano is probably correct with looking a the DV first.  :happy2:

If it has split, which is likely, you will need revision D, which has done away with the diaphragm method, so therefore cannot split, and is maintenance free, unlike the forge version, which i believe needs oiling from time to time.  :happy2:

That will be why you have poor fuel economy as well.  :happy2:

Out of interest is there any way for a non mechanic like myself to check whether the DV has split?

If you did some logging with VCDS then that would show up to the trained eye, but if you are not a mechanic then i would say yes but you would need to trawl through lots of DV threads on here. It is positioned in a awkward  place on the KO 3 you would need to get it on ramps or axle stands then crawl under and undo the3 bolts holding it on, take it off and inspect it. To be honest lots of people upgrade anyway for peace of mind and a garage can get to it and change in minutes. i think it's about £50 for the revision D and probably an hours labour at a garage,.   :happy2:
