Title: K04 Turbo upgrade for 2.0 TSI??
Post by: laurent.d on March 28, 2011, 10:08:11 am
I'm looking for my next car and thus I'm also thinking about available upgrade.

Except APR which company provide K04 Turbo upgrade for new 2.0 TSI engine.

Does RevoTechnik have any solution for it?

You can source all your own parts and get the revo stage 3 map to suit the k04 upgrade. Revo themselves only do the software.

No revo stg3 software for a Tsi as far as I am aware, have asked for them to do something a few times now and always gone down the route of custom mapping instead as they have nothing available.

Or maybe use Revo and add an electronic adjustable boost controller?

Source the bits from dealers then custom bespoke mapping session?

Revo definitely have software for the K04 on a TSI.

Hardware on the other hand is a different story. The APR kit keeps the DV in the turbo which requires machining. You could always go the traditional K04 route and have a DV at the front of the engine if that's what you wanted.

Is it right that the 2.0 TSI engine can handle more power than the AXX etc?

A K04 upgrade on the mk5 GTI puts the engine on about the safe limits.

Would a TSI engine be able to cope with a K04 Hybrid with an aggressive map?

I can only go by experience here.

However I believe the AXX to be stronger than the BWA. I have a personal friend been driving around with an APR Stage 3 kit on his car. It's been fault free for almost 2 years now since It's been installed. travelled around the 40000km's already. that kit is making 245kw's at the front wheels so approx 380Hp.

The new APR K04 kit for the MK6/scirocco/EOS TSI engine makes a claimed 366hp. I see no reason to doubt claims. As my APR Stage 1 GTI (even when it was Stage 2, Never got to dyno it for Stage 2+) is on par to their claim

So in short I cannot see why a K04 Hybrid would have issue's running on the TSI engine.

I do recommend gathering sufficient information, before you decide what you want do.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but just wanted to check if you are pushing the engine hard or just want the engine for occasional use? I only ask this as the tsi is a waste of time for track work this is from my experience from going through 2 turbos as the engine just isn't cutout for it. It suffers from oil starvation to the turbo and oil surge etc... On hard track work. It will probably be fine on the road as isn't under anywhere near the stress of cornering on track. Just something to bear in mind, before chasing numbers just think about what the car is being used for track or road for long term reliability. Hope this is of help, you will see more info on my candy white rocco build thread.

Outright power isnt a limiting factor.

Its oil surge and starvation that the car suffers with when you are on track with sticky tyres and a good chassis setup.  The potential cornering forces starve the turbo of its oil hence big plumes of white smoke and new turbos.  The TFSI doesnt suffer with this as the sump/oil lines are better designed
