I spent today getting burnt to a crisp whilst tidying up my mates dads Golf GTI. I agreed to help clay it to get the tree sap and crap off it, but ended up doing my best to deswirl it in the time I had.
It was washed by my mate (AS Shampoo) and left wet for me.
I then:
- Clayed with I4D Yellow Clay and AS Reglaze
- De-tar'd with Tardis
- Washed with Dodo BTBM
The car was then assessed for swirls using a DIY Sun Gun, to reveal...

I wasn't in the mood for, and didn't have the time to, fully correct this, so expecting it to be rock hard, I decided to lightly "enhance" using Dodo Juice Lime Prime.
I used my CP Rotary and Megs Polishing pads to reveal...

Just goes to show, you can't "assume" something is "hard" or "soft" - I was certainly surprised anyway...

Not bad huh?
I finished up with Dodo Supernatural (my mate has a pot, so best option to maintain with, and add additional layers etc)
Some "afters":

Just a quick one, but a pleasure, and such a lovely car. It's only done 6000 miles!
Russ.

Looks like brand new! Well done mate
Your home made sun gun...do tell how you made it
-
I say "home" made, but my mate made it lol!
There's a guide on DW somewhere, I'll find the link for you. With the right bulb it's exactly the same as a 3M Sun Gun, but works out to £40, rather than £400 and the bulb is the SAME!
Cheers for the comment too. It still needs a bit of attention, but it was looking a lot better after those 8 or so hours.
-
Looks ace,
£40 also sounds alot better than 400 :surprised:
-
looking good russ.
Hard or soft, the LP will have filled a lot of the marks. Not that that is a bad thing, but the hardness of the paint wont affect this. But in 8 hours, it looks good
-
Looks good that. Wheels really suit it. Good job :happy2:

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!111
is all I can say. Can't wait for my Dodo Juice and cleaning accesories to turn up. Then I can do all this to mine again.
Frankly don't think to much of meguiars product for a true clean. Or nearly good a job as performed up here.
Great work.

Good results, I do like the pic above, made me smile.
The DIY sun gun, I made one from an old hairdryer, and a 240v Halogen bulb, cost a £5er. Worked great till I dropped it, not got round to making another .
Linky I used to make it from DW http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=202530 (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=202530)

Looks great & them rims .
-
Cheers folks, just wish it was mine!
Russ.
-
Awesome detail.
I say "home" made, but my mate made it lol!
I saw that on DW too. Definitely thinking about making my own.
-
looking good!!! i need to give mine a good detail getting a few swirls and i hate them!

Me too :happy2:

They are very good, much better than a Brinkmann which costs similar money. I've used a Lenser P7 too, but wasn't impressed at all.
I did get a Golf on the back of this, and can't wait to detail it! :happy2:
-
Are those leopard pants your working clothes??
Looking real good, those wheels complementing the rest of the car :congrats:
-
Wow that looks awesome! I love all the details like the rear bumper and the sills - and those wheels!
-
wow that looks hot love the wheels :happy2:
-
Good work mate :happy2:

What have you been using?

I use to use PACER products, Worked really well, But they stopped selling directly to the public, So there product became more expensive the the NXT or NXT 2 range from meguiars range.
So switch everything over to all the Meguairs range. The products used, the car looked good once clean, but after only a few days it looked like a detail was never performed.
I now use, Duragloss and Dodo Juice products (personally imported from Australia). Not only do they work far easier than the Meguairs range. They also smell better and the car seems to stay clean for much longer.
Still have not found a Snow foam. No one in New Zealand that I have spoken to, have heard of this. So Will have to import more cleaning products.

Just seen this in 2016 (WOOO!) and I'm in love. Such a great job! I've just bought a MK5 GTI and would like to get into detailing. I am a complete beginner so any advice you could give me would be helpful.
