Title: How can I tell if my CAN gateway is up to a RNS510 install?
Post by: berg on April 19, 2011, 09:25:38 pm
Hi guys,

i want to upgrade to an RNS510, blutooth, ipod dock etc.

i have read about battery drain issues and norbreck 21a told me that to change the CAN gateway is a bitch too.

I have a 57 reg 08 car so will mine be up to running the 510 with no issues or not?

Thanks

It's not the nav it's the firmware. Only firmware 266X and newer causes battery drain on cars with lower than a K revision gateway (mainly 56 plates and previous)

Any car with an L revision or higher gateway is fine.

L revison is circa June 07. Some K revisions work (mine did) and I don't know of a car from Mar 07 onwards that suffers with battery drain.

A 57 plate car will have at the very least an L gateway so you will be fine. :happy2:

If you are still concerned, either get a VCDS scan and note down the part number of the gateway, or visually check the gateway out  :happy2:

Mine is an 07/57 (November) and running an L Gateway. I have had no issues with my RNS. Its a fantastic bit of kit. Well worth it!
