Just got a set of these myself, sturby looking speakers, not run them up yet so be interested in response. I've found in other cars upgrading to components never gives you the results you are looking for until you amp them up........

They are great speakers for their price point.
It would be a worthwhile upgrade, just remember to sound deaden the doors too.

Got these and Rainbows... only worth it if youre amping them to be honest...
Amp them, and sound proof inner and outer door skins...

I know what you mean. But had a set of those 165A1's. in my mk4. Still running from Alpine 9887 actually 9835 too.
They sounded really good even from radio power. But did start to come alive with about 150wrms.

ok lads got around to fitting the focal A1's but it seems one of the crossovers isnt working.. is it possible to get a replacement crossover? if so where?
can they be repaired? i bought them second hand and have drivers door fitted so dont really wanna try exchange them..
any ideas lads?

If you can't find a replacement cross-over.
I would suggest getting some Alpine Type R (2004-2006) or Alpine Type X cross-overs.
There cross-over points are just about the same and have the same attenuation on the cross-overs.
I had them in my Golf 4 only as the Focal cross-overs where to big.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply GILDN, are the alpine crossovers expensive? Are there difference between crossovers? As in 2 way.. 3 way??
Thanks

Thanks
still a 2 way cross-over same as the Focal version.
As for expensiveness?
In New Zealand they can be had for around $30NZ or about £10-ish. So would think about the same over there. Just look on ebay and perhaps www.talkaudio.co.uk.

sourced a pair of phoenix gold crossovers, the sound alone from just wiring speakers to head unit is very good, have some pioneer coaxial for the rear and then will amp them up..
have a question, the pioneer are 60w rms for the rear, is it worth my while fitting them or should i go for bigger 6x9's with more output?
i had no plans for a sub, again what are your opinion's lads?
is a sub a must for better sound?
thanks

Great speakers for the money (Polyglass version even better than Access one) but really need an amp.
