Last week I borrowed someones VCDS and chnaged some settings....one of which was turning on the blink/horn when locking.
This worked perfectly for a couple of days. But the other night we had a thunder and lightening storm....I was in the back garden and the car is parked at my back gate. My son came in and said the lights were flashing on my car.
Went out and the hazards where flashing as if alarm had gone off. No sound though.
Open the car and then checked all the windows and doors......then locked the car - No Horn notification!
Not sure what to do now.....would disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes reset everything? Ask if I can borrow the VCDS?
Can these settings be lost due to electrical interference? Neighbour said the lightning storm could have messed with it....took that with a pinch of salt though could it be?
-
Well tested the alarm at lunchtime and the lights go off but the siren doesn't.
Anyone had this before?
-
You may have changed the Alarm sounder setting in VCDS by mistake

Thought about that though the Horn notification when looking was on when i changed the settings though now doesn't work....nothing has been done to the car except that lightning storm at the weekend....
Might have to hook up the car and have the codes read....might be a fault
-
I noticed my car doing this when I was jet washing it the other day.
I had an issue with some clocks/dials and had the power steering light come up and the traction control is stuck off, I wonder if it caused this to.
I was just thinking it might be like a warning when it feels some vibration.

Ive seen this a few times in the last couple of months even on a new mk6 GTD golf, the alarm horn is behind the drivers side front wing,
The arch liner will need pulling out so you can get to it but its a silver box and that is riveted in once you take the box off there is a smaller black siren inside which will need changing.
You may find a replacement on eBay?

Cheers Darren......take it I'll need a rivet gun to reattach..
Also will a fault code appear? I might be able to scan it in the next few days.
-
It should come up in the central electric some thing like no communication with the alarm.
Yes you will need a rivet gun if you intend on riveting it back on but you maybe able to get some oversized screws to put it back in??

Is there a way to set off the alarm so I can test that its definitely buggered?
:popcornsoda:
-
Lock the car with the windows down, then stick your head in the window and wave your arms around :signLOL:
-
like ya jus don't care? :signLOL:
-
And if you like fish and grits and all that pimp sh*t. Then everybody say O-Yea :signLOL:
-
O Yeah :notworthy:

Already done this and the hazards flash but no sound :sad1:
Looks like another session under the car
-
Strangely, I just went outside to park the car and my hazards were flashing too. Normally, the horn's beeping along with it. I suspect it was the chav in the evo giving the new zorst a good work out!
Tried to wave my arms around the interior but no alarm or hazards. Anyone know where the motion/ultrasound sensors are?
-
Could be that like me you don't have the motion sensor alarm. If this is the case then set the alarm, open the door with the manual key then don't turn the ignition on. The light on the door should stay red and after 15 seconds the alarm will sound.
-
No, I know I have a motion sensor since I've set it off before. It also gets triggered by heavy lorries travelling very close by.

On the 5dr it;s passenger side - on the pillar in between front and back....i think.
-
mines similar... went away on holiday and came back to a flat battery... changed the battery and since then the alarm has no sound... the red LED stays lit for about 15seconds too before flashing?

Exactly the same - disconnected the battery and now the alarm not working....must a reset somewhere or something.
-
Anyone got anywhere with this?
-
Just checked mine, not happy.
Unlocked manually from key, opened door, waited 15-20 seconds, door car light went solid and indicators flashed - No horn sound.
Locked it all back up but with window down, waved arm around, light went solid again no sound or indicators?
Any ideas guys? Pretty gutted actually, where would the sensors be? Surely a GTi comes with sensored alarm as standard?
-
Is there a fuse I could possibly check? Quite worried now, I live in a nice area, car is kept on driveway, keys now come upstairs with me BUT better to be safe then sorry!
-
I checked all my fuses and each was ok...
I've had a word with a mate and he seems to think its the actually alram horn which is under the drivers side wing which could be at fault..
not checked it out yet
-
£112 from VW or £40-£50 from eBay, needs drilling out though :(
Which fuse is the alarm horn matey?
-
not entirly sure off the top of my head... its been a few weeks since I checked... it was in the manual though... VW wanted a kidney size cheque also to fit it....
So I'll be looking to a friend who sponsors www.staffs-vw.co.uk to fit it :happy2:
-
Just looked through section 3.2 only found "Horn" which is obviously fine as my actual horn works, can't find anything relating to alarm?
-
F35 Alarm horn, vehicle inclination sensor, interior monitor sensor 5A,
interior fuse box
-
Was that on 3.2 Page 55? Why doesn't mine show :(
Thanks mate will check it now!
-
Got to work this morning, locked the car and "Beep".
Unlocked and "beep, beep"
All working and alarm no works properly also.
Very weird, thank god I was too lazy to get a replacement siren.

Drilling out?? whats that all about?
-
The alarm horn is in a box that is rivited behind the wheel well!
-
oh ok, drilling rivets out isn't too bad.
I guess i'm going to have to tackle this at some point. You would have thought for such a common issue this should be a recall issue.
-
Just tried mine for the first time in 2 years of ownership byopening it and waiting for 15 seconds.
Made me jump out of my skin when it went off! :signLOL:
Neighbours must think im a weirdo :P
Atleast I can confirm mine works
-
Shoved a fuse in mins and still nothing, looks like the fuse box doesn't have the metal terminals behind where the fuse goes in if that makes sence?
-
Spoke to #@*&ing soon...
Last night the beep had stopped working - then the same this morning.
But just about to pull into cobham and the alarm starts going off....as I'm driving
Got to work and the beeps obviously work as well now....ears are ringing - damn that things loud.
Now I get the feeling I'm going to have to take this to the stealers.
-
At least yours works sometimes lol, mine has nothing what so ever? :S
Defiantly interior fuse 35 and defiantly 5A?
:(

So taking out interior fuse 35 will stop alarm working? Will it effect anything else?
-
Well I was told it was Fuse35 which is a 5Amp fuse controls the Alarm horn, I didn't have a fuse in this socket so stuck one in and still nothing for me so maybe try removing it for you to stop the alarm horn?
-
alarm gremlins.....

Will do.....livid as at work i don't have a car space as i'm a contractor but asked to park there (usually half empty) as I had to disconnect the battery so it doesn't keep going off but can't lock the car...Secuirty guard was arsey though I followed someone else in.
He then goes crying to the receptionist who asks me to remove my car - told her the problem and she said it was unfair to people who have spaces............
I then called her back to say I'll move it in 5 minutes so I can tell the PM I have to go and get this sorted so she goes to HR and asks them to tell me to move it....
F*&king jobsworth
Thinking about taking the siren out and leaving it as is....spent far too much on the car 4 months already and TPS want £100 for a new siren and it might not even be that.
Rant over...
-
You were right....35.
Taken it out and come back to work...not missing out on a days rate
Will get the codes read today and see what comes back.
-
Was it a 5A yeah? All I can think of is that mine is deffo the faulty horn :(

it was a 5A

I replaced the alarm siren on mine not so long ago and its a simple job with the right tools.....but......here's what I learnt.
Once you take off the wheel liner, you DO have to drill out the rivets that hold it on. It's held in a metal carrier.
You need 6.4mm rivets! and unless you are The Hulk you will also need a Lazy Tongue Riveter. It was a pain getting these rivets but I have a bag of them now. You will need 2 of them.
The alarm siren is about £90 from TPS. It's simply a plug and play component.
I hope this helps. :happy2:

Thanks mate, read the codes and it's still the same Alarm Horn - No communication...etc
Loose connection possibly?
-
This is just what I had. My bet is its the siren :happy2:. If you want to check the connections, you have to drill out the rivets anyway to get to it.
If you get stuck finding the rivets - I can send you some :happy2:

How much is the rivet gun?
-
Does the case have to be riveted back on? Is there enough space to work in and stuff? Might buy a rivet gun if it's still straight forward enough, can any damage be caused by drilling out the old ones?
-
The rivet gun is about £20 BUT be careful that it accepts 6.4mm rivets! Most don't :happy2:
The alarm siren is in two parts, the siren itself and a metal holder with holes in to rivet this to the inner wing.
The alarm siren is bolted to the metal holder. You can't get the siren out without drilling out the rivets that keep the holder on.
Space isn't too bad and the job is quite simple with the right tools.
"Can any damage be caused by drilling out the old ones?" not unless you go and drill something other than the rivet. :happy2:
Where are you based?

Cheers Bodger...will get a replacement in a week or two. Get along to Slough TPS.
-
mine is the same did the new siren fix this?
-
It did for me :happy2:
-
Will hopefully sort this out end of month and this is the problem, if not then i would have wasted cash haha, will have to get a rivet gun adn rivets then.
Based in Blackpool NW matey you?
-
new siren for me it is then :happy2: thanks :drinking:

news to date... still not sorted it... by suddenly my LED in the door now works like it used to???
-
This is a really interesting thread. It appears I have this same problem on my new Mk5 GTI :sad1:
I bought the car and didn't even think to check the alarm, doors all lock and unlock fine no sound (which is the same as my fathers passat)
I took the car to Midland VW for an inspection and they cleared all fault codes except "alarm horn no communication" which got me thinking about whether the alarm works at all! Turns out it doesn't, like other people it just flashes the indicators at you!
Then the following day the car quiet subtly beeped at me when I locked it and double bleeped when I unlocked it  I guess it must have started working again? Then about a day later it stopped beeping
I am a little concerned that whoever owned the car before obviously played with VAGCOM to setup the un/locking chime and I wonder what else he has changed... is there anyway to revert all settings back to OEM? To add to confusion I have a MFD2 retro fitted (also by previous owner) which I understand needs to be coded so will it stop working if I set all back to factory?
-
Guys,
I haven't actually checked my alarm, but after this thread I'll do it 1st thing in the morning.
It's a little concerning, but the beeps have never worked when locking or unlocking my car when I bought it last year. I was told though that some models had the beeps disabled due to noise complaints  is this a load of cobblers?
That's why I left it and assumed it was normal :scared:
I don't have any errors in VAG, and I don't believe anything has been disabled there either! :sad1:
-
You can have the alarm chirps activated/deactivated. The only ones I've seen activated is where someone has had it activated by vcds or by going to the dealers.
Not having activated means nothing in relation to whether the alarm works.
-
I'm off to check it in a minute. The guy at AMD tried to activate it with the VAG tool but said on my car there wasn't this option :scared:??????
-
Well I did the 'wave your arms like you just dont care' :signLOL: and the alarm came on, so it's not the rivet job!!! :congrats:
But I don't understand how the beeping couldn't be activated when AMD tried????
Maybe there are some versions that don't have the option?? :surprised:
-

My alarm now works again :stupid: not touched it and all of a sudden it works..... gremlins
