Title: Gearbox noise

I started noticing a kind of grinding noise from the gearbox of my MK5 golf. Having looked under the car, I can see what seems like oil drops right below the gearbox. Can anyone tell me if there is anyway I can check if the gearbox oil has leaked out and if there is still gearbox oil inside the gearbox?

Smell the oil - gearbox oil smells really 'sweet' and quite strong odoured

Is it a manual gearbox?

The only way to tell is to fill it up and see how much goes in

yes its a 6 speed manual. where do you fill up the gearbox oil from?

On these without looking in the manual Im not too sure

Itll probably be the side at the top
