Hello folks!
Thought I’d start a thread showing the bit and bobs I’ve done to my GT Tdi.
Bought the car just over 2years ago; at the time I was looking for a Mk4 R32 or Mk5 Gti and came across this one which had already had an R32 kit & leather interior. In hindsight it’s been a good decision as my annual mileage is way higher than I estimated despite working oversea half the year!
Before I bought it, it had:
Full R32 bodykit incl rear lights and leather interior
I’ve added:
Eibach Pro Springs
Custom centre back stainless exhaust with 4" milltek style tips
Bluefin remap
R32/Gti rear spoiler
Gti darkened headlights
Removed the front fogs that were fitted previously.
Stubby aeriel
Centre armrest and roller tray cover
Had a Neuspeed filter on and just swapped over to a friends K&N performance airbox
Have 4 sets of wheels I juggle between:
Winter:
17” Audi S4 Avus with Dunlop WinterSports
Summer:
18” Genuine R32 18 Zolders
18” Genuine Audi RS6 style S lines in A3 et54 fitment
18” BBS CH reps
Current plans are:
Looking for a Gti brake setup as finding the Tdi setup a little inadequate on the roads up north!
Remove at least front tints, previous owner put them on and I can never make my mind up on them.
Custom R32 grille: ebay buy that had damaged lower slats replaced with crappy looking mesh and sprayed matt black. Looked ok but playing with a few ideas and will get it wrapped when I'm next home.
Eibach Sportlines: picked up a set to see how it looks a touch lower.
Just fitted a 2 post lift in the new workshop I’m fitting out with 2mates which now means I can play musical alloys more often!
Anyway, here's when car was first purchased: silly looking front fogs, no spoiler or dark headlights and sitting too high

Had a custom exhaust made up for it; sounds surprisingly good (for a diesel)

At same time fitted a Neuspeed filter - plenty of room to get access with lights out!

But they didn't stay on for long when a set of A3 offset S lines came up for sale locally and this is how car currently stands

Hi there welcome along to this excellent forum :happy2:
great looking diesel you have there do you have any more plans for it?
how about inside anything doing in there?
scott :happy2:
-
Very nice,
personally I prefer the BBS look to the s-line wheels though but from experience the s-lines are easier to clean :happy2:
-
Cheers for the comments
I bought the BBS wheels from scoty on here, had them on for last summer, still like them but a little bored of them. And yes your right the S lines are far easier to clean!
Golfman; I see your in Dundee…I’m passing through all the time due to girlfriend in St Andrews & sister in Broughty Ferry: will have to pop in by when I’m next home and see your specced up golf!
Not really that much plans for inside already has full r32 leather and armrest; would love a complete solution for linking iPhone to headunit but would need to change can gateway & swap my iPod dock for MDI before I can fit an RCD510
-
loving it so far :happy2:

Scott
Just noticed on your signature that you have vag-com....cruise control was on my to do list but didnt want to pay the dealer rates to fit it so will give you a shout about coding that
Out working in Qatar till June which gives me plenty of time to plan my next modifications when back home!
-
No problem :happy2:

wow! this is just how i want to style my GT TDI... was it fairly straight forward to bolt the R32 Back Box onto the exisiting TDI system?
Good work! :congrats:
Rachel
-
Very nice :congrats:
Although is that an 'R' badge on the back? You should change it to GTD! :happy2:
Unless you want a 'R' copy offcourse :signLOL:
-
What are your opinions on the intakes over stock? Any differences/gains?
-
Rachel:
If you have a look at this thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,28829.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,28829.0.html)
That should answer your queries regarding fitment of the r32 style exhaust, I have a custom setup on mine – it's not made from adapting an R32 backbox.
Gtiain:
The badge - haha well before I got it it was badged up front&rear as an R32...the wannabee copycat guilt trip set in quickly so debadged it to just the .:R at the rear. Have toyed about with a few badge ideas like .:R20 as it’s a 2.0 or putting the Rline badge. When I was debadging it it became a .:R23…
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs184%2Fstuartwood%2FCar013.jpg&hash=12176a79f34baa2d51886c4ed155b9c48c59fc39)
I like the idea of the GTD but I see that suiting a GTI kitted up TDI better.
JulioTDI:
With the both intakes I didn’t expect any gains/better response…it was an experiment to see if we could increase the noise you get when you back off the throttle on the TDI which I’m led to believe is from the pitch change of the VNT (then again I could be speaking crap!) and yes it did increase that noise noticeably.
I’d say the K&N enclosed filter box gives slightly better response which I guess is due to the Neuspeed being an open to engine heat.
I've no pictures of the K&N box fitted as yet (currently 3000miles away from car!) but will get up soon, its a nice fitting piece of kit but quite expensive as far as I'm aware. I borrowed it from a friend who had it on his tiguan rline so no idea what he paid for it.
-
Whatever you do it looks great mate. :happy2:
-
Nice car!
If I may, there is one thing (only one :innocent:) that is not for my taste: the front mud flaps. I am not a big fan of those but it's you taste that matters.
Drive safe and keep up the good work!
-
sweet, thanks for the link w80ody
-
Had a custom exhaust made up for it; sounds surprisingly good (for a diesel)
Hmmm, interested in seen a more detailed view of your custom exhaust as I'm planning a similar thing myself myself albeit with a GTI exit not R32. Did you just change it from the backbox onward or did you do away with the middle silencer too? Glad you changed over to the darker GTI headlights. Changes the whole front of the car. Tis on my to-do list. :happy2:
Also would like to know how you attached your GTI spoiler and what work their is involved with the 3rd light?
p.s. sorry for lack of pics on FB so far, been a busy weekend so far but I'll get round to it soon.
-
dodds, good to see you on the forum!
Have a look at this link for better pictures of the exhaust: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,28829.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,28829.0.html)
The original backbox was removed and a Y section made up to split for the R32 exits.
The centre box is still in, have contemplated removing this but fear it will drone too much.
Something like this would do you maybe?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110673441476&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110673441476&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)
Spoiler is bonded on to tailgate.
Watch when ordering the spoiler from VW as there are two types, one is the same as Gti/R32, the other is a slightly different design that doesn’t include a built in brake light (the design has a scoop in the middle so the original light can be used). I believe that spoiler is from the accessories range. Hence when ordering you need to buy the brake light that fits the Gti spoiler. They removed my old light, feed the connector through the wing, bonded it on then popped in the new light

Thought I'd revive your build thread Woody with a few pics from the Extreme Motorsport Rolling Road Day:

love this car the r32 front end is excellent :happy2:
-
really like this car on the S4 rims. think those are what you should use all year round personally!

Time for a thread update!
Had lower door lights fitted by scott golfman earlier in the summer, no pics I’m afraid but worth it to avoid the all to often foot in puddle/slush/snow incidents from last winter.
Couple of pictures from over the summer

Fitted a pair of Eibach Sportline springs to take the rear down a touch more, now happier with the height. The front could go down a bit more but front bumper+kerbs+gf/parents (ok and me) mean its taken a few scrapes even at this height.

Finally fixed my passenger seat which wasn’t sliding forward…its been like that for past 3years lol making it a pain in the ass for folks getting in&out of back seats. Have put up a guide here (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37400.0.html)to help anyone who has the same problem.
Next up will be a winter update

Winter beckons….
I sold my previous winter setup of Audi Avus 17s with Dunlop Wintersport 3D’s to golfman earlier this year, now fitted to his car (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2129.300.html). I quickly regretted this when I realised how much more demand there was for winter treads this year! Finally picked up a set of Nokian’s localish in Glasgow and put them on a set of 17” Gti monzas that dodds-gttdi had picked up for me.

Put them on last week of October which may seem early but I headed off the following week to work for 6weeks in Iraq so by the time I return mid December I expect sub zero temperatures and some snow.

Looking into plasti dipping them as I think the silver a little boring or spraying them anthracite to hide the winter filth something like (cheers to Jungle_Faced_Jake for the inspiration)
http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac206/Jungle_Face_Jake/_PLB4180.jpg
Picked up 2 damaged R32 grilles; will get one wrapped and fitted when im back home to beef up the front end of the car which I’ve always felt is missing something.
Work in progress!

Also fed up having a frozen ass and frozen washer jets so must get kufatec heated seat loom fitted and a loom from EddieNL for the heated washers

Looking tidy. Wrapped grille and darker wheels would look nice! :happy2:

Nice car!
If I may, there is one thing (only one :innocent:) that is not for my taste: the front mud flaps. I am not a big fan of those but it's you taste that matters.
Drive safe and keep up the good work!
I was gonna say the same mate
They just don't work with all the colour coding!
Apart from the flaps the car is gorgeous though mate. Looks like you have spent some time on it and it definitely paid off :notworthy:
There are a handful of really great soot chuckers, and yours is def one of em!
-
looking really good, will be good to see the updates!
