Can anyone advise me of a product for machining my tornado red gti and removing swirls? I havent machined it before and dont want to damage but have heavy swirling.

Sorry - i mean that i need a compound or something to use with my polisher and before i glaze and wax after losing swirls

Try posting up on detaillingworld.com make if you don't get any joy on here. Someone on there will be able to recommend the right product in a heart beat.

Have a look at some menzerna products there designed for hard german paints.

All down prefence in my experience. I use Poorboys SSR2 2.5 and 3. Alwayd does the job for me though people find they breakdown too quickly for some.
As above the Menzerma or the Meguires polishes seem popular on DW.
As long as you buy differnet grades and have different pads to test with you should be fine.
Start with the less cutting polish on a polishing pad and then try a slightly heavier cutting polish, then change the pad up to a cutting pad with light cut polish....
Test on a small area until you get the finish you need.......
If you find a heavy cut works best then you'll need to finish with the lightest cut combo to remove any holograms....

Wow. Dunno how I missed this.
Anyway, have a look through some of the detailing threads in this section. There are recommendations for products and how-to guides.
A dual-action polisher will be safe enough for any beginner.
+1 for menzerna polishes but you need the weather to be warm enough so you can break them down properly. For the price of gear for detailing, you can pay someone to do a far better job than any beginner can hope to achieve. On the other hand, if you're willing to invest time and money, there are lots of products to try out.

May be an idea to try on a cheap Bonnet or door from a breakers or eBay.
Also lots use a random orbit sander, so long as you can get one with variable speed - not too fast.
You can easily do more harm than good with a DA Polisher.

A DA Polisher is a random orbit sander basically.....the only rotation that is forced is the oscillation, with rotation being a by-product.
As DA's do not generate the same level of heat anywhere as easily as a rotary polisher (forced rotation = more cut available but quicker heat build-up) they are much easier to use for a beginner and it is extremely difficult to damage your paint using one.
Have a look on youtube at the 'Junkman' video's, he uses a Porter Cable which is very similar to the DAS-6 / Dodo Buff Daddy etc etc, he shows how to use the DA and how hard it is to create damage.
Junkman is a legend IMO :notworthy:

What are you going to be using? DA or rotary?

The Meguiars Ultimate Compound is great stuff to use either by hand or even better with a DA polisher (I have the Kestrel DA) there are videos on Youtube on how to use, you just apply your preferred wax or sealant afterwards.
You can pick a large bottle up for about £8.50 on ebay, seen it in the shops for £10.99

Plenty of info on Zaino here, I love their stuff but it seems to be a little bit like marmite!
