Certainly a nice car you've got there! Couldnt live without the cruise control tho but thats an easy mod to retrofit  :happy2:

Will look awesome with the bbs alloys!

I live on the isle of wight so its mainly B roads no real need for cruise control unless i escape to the mainland then i dont really wanna cruise i want to make the most of the long open roads!

I shall show you the door if you make a comment like that again.
Much prefer the cloths, but the leathers are nice too.

Nice to see a standard GTI on here, not many get left that way, will be cool to see what you do to it in the coming months.

So its time to carry out some mods !!

1st up is to lower it as i cant stand seeing it sit so high and with some new wheels ordered its got to sit lower.

I fitted Eibach Sportsline at a later date the shocks will be replaced but i wanted to check the ride height of the springs first

I bought them from demon tweeks off ebay seems to be pretty cheap £138.95 inc postage

stock height was -

fronts
floor to wheel arch - 64.5 cm
center wheel to wheel arch - 35.5 cm

Rear
floor to wheel arch - 66.5 cm
center wheel to wheel arch - 35.5 cm

So fitting them was ok rears very easy fronts a little harder, i ended up taking the whole shock, hub and disc off as i couldn't split the shock from the hub.

The measurements with the new springs fitted are -

fronts
floor to wheel arch - 63.5 cm
center wheel to arch - 34.5 cm

rears
floor to arch - 64.5 cm
center wheel to arch 33.5 cm

Ive only covered 10 miles so there may be a little change from this but over all im very happy.

Niiiice   what size tyres you looking to run with them? Got 8/9 staggered on mine with a 215 tyre and it looks spot on  :happy2:

Your gonna have some serious poke with a 9.5 rear   you might struggle with just running springs with that setup....... look forward to seeing them on

That's with 215/40/18's all round, it's settled nicely as that was taken just after fitting back in may, tbh i'm not entirely sure of the offsets as the front's were off the shelf and the rears were ordered as blanks from the company and drilled to fit.... think you'll defo need coilovers as it won't look right without the proper drop running stretched tyres, mines dropped 40mm all round and tbh could do with being about another 5mm but can't because its my daily and the roads and speedbumps would kill my car  :fighting:

Looks nice dave are they calibre vintage alloys think they run at et35 ? i have the same problem as you its all B roads or smaller where i live so wanted a compramise between running low and a more comfy ride.

Thanks mate  yeah they are calibre vintage and i believe the et is in the mid 30s but not too sure, maybe go with 40 profile instead of 35 for a bit more sidewall when stretched?? who makes the ones you've got? look very similar apart from the stepped lip

There's some stretch going on with them. Fitting over the weekend or saving for next summer?
Would look excellent colour coding  the centres of the wheels imo, not too keen on the silver look of them.

Looks good, but not colour coding bottom half of bumper?

No as I'm keeping the standard side skirts etc so a colour coded lower valance will look a little odd it won't flow as well
Well said sir . car looks swift :congrats:

I used deb traffic film remover sprayed it on left to soak for a while and just hosed it off I removed the airfilter so it didn't get wet and covered the air intake up with a plastic bag and a rubber band so the inlet pipe stayed dry
Then air lined it all off, paying extra attention to coil packs etc run the engine till it was all bone dry and dressed the bay with concept PVC sheen

Three of us went to dub mania today it was very wet pretty cold and windy, ive never been to this show before so cant compare it to previous years but the setting is great and had the weather been better im sure the turn out would have been good.

We all had a great day though heres some pics of mine in the show and shine

The H&R coilovers look great! (I'd love to be that low)  :notworthy:

Have you tried them with a car full of people yet?

If so any rubbing?

Are they easy to adjust?

I've just got the H&R springs on standard shocks, but I'd love to go that 10-15mm lower

I don't get any rubbing at all, and to me, I think they perform great! It's just that extra drop would look amazing

Great work on the Gti btw  :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

I have run the car full up with no rubbing front or back and I have some poke on the rear.
Before I bought the coilovers I was told how low they can run and still not rub I didn't really believe it but I have to say it's amazing just how good they ride.
They are very easy to adjust height as all coilovers are as for adjusting dampening the fronts are top adjustable but the rears need the shock coming off, compressing and rotating to adjust it this is the only downside to these.

I currently run just 2 clicks on the rear from full soft and one on the front.

They normally go for around £1500-£2000 for the seats I was very lucky in finding a set from such a low milage car 450 mile trip to get them though !

Included in the sale was the whole interior seats door cards carpets trims roof lining etc etc so I was lucky and sold all the other parts off bring some money back in

Right Royal Pain In the Ass  :sad1:

I had polished wheels on my Harley. You often see me riding it....caught out in the rain....crying in my helmet like a baby at the thought of having to clean em straight away when I got back home

So ive just changed my coilovers as i couldn't get low enough now im running genuine rs's with a higher offset also running coilovers at there lowest setting isnt a great ride.
I decided on H&R's again this time though ah-exclusive modified ultra lows these will adjust to 110mm drop they use bilstein shocks and im very impressed with the ride and handling, they also do a 90mm and 140mm kits!

A quick photo but further adjustment once they have settled is needed

It rides well the shocks are designed to run that low unlike maxed out normal coilovers etc the only problem is ramps or raised man hole covers lol

Just read from start to finish and realised the time!

anyway absolute amazing motor!
What arch work did u need for the front and rears I'm also looking at the Ah-exclusives but I want 18x8.5 ET42 front 18x9.5 ET40 rears. What are your thoughts?

thanks
Matt

My advise is buy the coilovers they are by far the best if you want to run low but you won't be able to run very low with the wheels you want to buy the rears will poke to much and the fronts will stop you running pretty low to

If you want to know more just ask

Matt

no arch work needed to run the genuine bbs just the front screw mod there will be a thread on here telling you what to do

its all about offsets and tyre profile though to run low
