Title: HOW TO: Install iOS 5
Post by: Betty02 on June 09, 2011, 03:25:37 pm
Ok I have had well over 30 PM's about this already and I decided it would make life much easier if I wrote a guide!

DISCLAIMER: You do all this at your own risk, myself or MK5GolfGTi will not be held responsible for any problems that occur during your installation or anything like that. I am not nor am I affiliated with the seller in the eBay link below. This is done at your own risk, after all the people I have told there has been a 100% successful rate!

How It Works: Ok this is 100% totally legal, people whom have a developers account will add your phone UDID onto the Apple servers so that your device is registered with the servers so when you go to install iOS 5 it verifies legally without any issues. Each developer gets 100 UDID slots.

Ok first thing you need to do is find out your UDID.

1) Open iTunes

2) Plug in your device

3) Click your device from the left and then click Summary

4) Click the text that says "Serial Number" this will then change to a long UDID

5) Once showing your UDID go to Edit and click Copy - You do not need to highlight anything, this has your UDID copied.

6) Go to This (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iOS-5-Beta-Activation-/170652534196?pt=UK_iPad_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item27bbaf05b4) eBay link, purchase it and send them the copied UDID, await confirmation of the activation usually within an hour.

7) Remove your current version of iTunes

8) Download two files, one being iOS 5 GSM (DO NOT US CDMA THE UK DOES NOT USE THIS!!!) and iTunes 10.5 Beta for your correct OS. I have the download links I will email you, I am not posting them up here.

9) Once iTunes is removed to make sure give the PC a restart then install 10.5 Beta, after installation again restart.

10) After restart plug in phone and select it in iTunes, hold down "Shift" or "Command" and click "Check for updates" this will open up a box, find your iOS 5 Firmware (locate to the download) click it and click open.

11) Leave iTunes to go through the upgrade set-up. Once done let it sync.

12) Restart phone and follow the ON SCREEN (Device screen this is) set-up and set up your device.

13) ENJOY!

I am here to help as will a few other IT bods!

Hope this helps, and my apologies is it;s not clear or I have missed out 1 or 2 things.

Thanks
Simon
