Handbrake.... Google it. That can rip DVDs to whatever file type/size you require.
-
I take you need vln player too then

No providing you use an iTunes compatible file output you can use iTunes or whatever the standard iPad movie app is called.
-
Trying it out now with a short kids film to see if it work :happy2:
-
Try the VLC app it lets you save .avi files or any type of video format for that reason. I am not sure if it is still avail for the iPad as I know there was some shenanigans over copyright?
-
Ok done a kids tv show little file with film dragged over into iTunes and started it up and the sound ok but the pic is crap all messed up like it's scrambled up
-
Handbrake, but each rip takes a bloody age! its an easy programme to run but it does take a long time to rip over to the iPad.
-
Nero multimedia 10 can do this but a bit expensive to buy if that's all you want to use it for.
-
I bought some software from slysoft.com ages ago and it was pretty good vfm, but it now costs a bomb. I believe it will work for free for 21 days as a trial and then you have to buy the licence, so if you can get all you want done in a 3 week period it'll be free!
The downloads you'd want are AnyDVD and CloneDVD Mobile to rip discs to an iPad. Really simple to use, the former just runs in the background and strips off the protection on the disc and the latter does the conversion to the file type of your choice.

Guys,
As mentioned handbrake is the best app to use to convert the file to mp4, I use it all the time :drinking:
A 700mb ripped movie (.avi) takes about 40 minutes to convert, so not too bad.
VLC you can only use on a pc not an ipad :happy2:

I have VLC on my iPad :signLOL:
I downloaded it before they removed it from the store :)
-
I've got vlc too but never figured it out. How do you rip a DVD using vlc?
-
I think Handbrake USES VLC to decode the DVD so you will need both installed on either your mac or pc to rip and convert.
I use it to put MY DVD's onto the PS3 for ease of being able to just turn on and shut the kids up.
Brilliant and if you have a Quad core pc it uses everything to convert so its quicker.
Love it.

I used to use Handbrake but i think it's feeling a bit dated nowadays, particularly in terms of it's interface.
I now use RipIt which is far more Mac-like, and also quicker.

Thats the beauty of VLC is that you dont need to convert the file format. All you need to do is in iTunes when the iPad is plugged in scroll down and you will see a VLC logo which you click 'add' and add the film or video and then when in the iPad open the VLC app.
I recommend Jailbreaking it so you can download all three of the VLC apps but that is a whole different kettle of fish

I have been running miro on my mac and putting things on that ie download films and converting them to iPad format and that works a treat, just was not sure on uploading DVD to it
-
What about flash players ?
-
use winavi, you can download it for free using a torrent, it does take a bloody age to convert though, like 45 mins!
