Title: Trouble Starting and Dodgy idle
Post by: chris s on June 29, 2011, 04:43:54 pm
Hi guys and girls... just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what the issue might be with my car... when I start the car from cold i.e. first thing in the morning, it doesn't always want to start smoothly first time and the idle is not the most settled.... I’ve read about the PCV and coil packs (plugs are new), but wondered what people thought... a recent data logging session gave no faults at all so presume that rules out the coil packs... but wondered what the more knowledgeable people on here thought?

Yep mine started off like that and it was PCV.

I'm thinking that for £30 it might be as well to change it... I'll run the test first though

PCV? Is there a how to guide... mine sometimes coughs into life... though obvious runs fine :)

There is one on here somewhere... it basically involved taking the engine cover off and then detaching the pipe that connects to the PCV.. then with the engine idling block off the open end with your thumb, and if the idle improves the PCV is duff

Yep thats pretty much it but I don't like the thumb method as it is quite a powerful vacuum!

BSH PCV deletion, or a catch can.

How does it idle when warm?

It's idle is Ok when warm... the only small thing I have notcied is that when pulling up to a standstill the revs appear to drop below the idling rpm before picking up again and then keeping steady.

FYI - it's an MY08 Ed30 DSG
