So do I!
this was the email received:-
Gavin
Thanks for the picture, we have this colour in our libary, we have many requests for edition 30 colour, however people normally asume it is the metallic grey.
That is why we check the pictures.
We can do this in aerosol, I will put it on the website under VW manufactures colours.
regards
Terry
Im also in correspondence with BBS, they just need the codes on the inside of the wheel, does anyone have this?
Save me taking the wheel off at the weekend!

They haven't yet, email was as follows:-
thank you for your enquiry.
Sorry, but I don´t know what wheel type you have. And so, I can not check how I can help you.
On the wheel inside there must be the wheel type, offset, and others. Please give me these numbers, then so I will help you.
The wheel type consists of two letters plus three numbers, I.e. CH009.

i will order some of this once i get confo wether its a good match. :happy2:
Keep us informed how yours looks cossy :drinking:

Ok, after two weeks of prep work & using the new paint i can confirm it is a close match but..... not perfect.
Coming out slightly lighter.
I had a scrape on the outer edge, so filled, primed & painted just this.
You wouldnt really know its been done. ( and Im a fussy **stard!)
So I would say i am 90% happy with it, definately doesnt stick out anymore.
Used Wurth Laquer which is what most German wheel manufaturers use.
The worst thing was blending it in but the old cotton buds dipped in thinners did the trick!
With post pictures soon. :happy2:
-
would another coat of the paint darken it ?
-
Sounds good to me Cossy & great work
:happy2:

would another coat of the paint darken it ?
Yes it probably would, was getting a bit impatient as car off the road for two weeks!
One good thing would be to make a template to fit just inside the wheel rim so the outer rim just exposed.
Would save a great deal of time masking off etc.
Any ideas? suppose could do the blue peter bit with a pencil & string put it needs to be cut out accurately.

is the paint opaque ?, i thought it was supposed to be, if so another coat will make it darker

Cossy,
Started last night using putty as a filler, which was a nightmare.
Going to get some metalik & give it a try over the weekend.
What did you use & did you mask the whole wheel off leaving just the outer free.
Thinners?????? anything special.

Hi Mate,
I did the following:-
Let the tyre down, cut out strips of newspaper, pushed down on side wall of tyre with a piece of wood (hammer handle is good!)
Pushed in the paper all the way round the tyre then tape them down. Saves any paint on tyre, re-balancing, tyres off & on etc Sounds weird but it does work!
Then used low tack masking tape (3m Blue) around the rim, about half way down the outer rim where it comes down to the wheel. Use small strips as it needs to be angled to the rim(hope this makes sense).
The rest of the wheel just use newspaper & masking tape.
I used special filler they use for model aircraft, its a sort of white compound easy to work with sets in 10 mins (will find out exactly the name of it)
Rub down the fill areas & lightly the rest of the top of the outer rim.
Clean with thinners
Then used a Filler primer.
Remove the blue masking tape & gently rub down any lip or you can use a cotton bud with thinners.
Re apply masking tape just below where the primer finishes.
Apply top coat, remove masking tape again and repeat the rub down of any paint lip.
I would say about four coats of paint to get the colour dark enough, do this over two days though. (2 & 2 coats)
The clear coat can be sprayed directly without any masking, just spray around the outer edge. (used Wurth clearcoat)
Gently polish with a cut compound, leave for another month or so and polish again using more pressure if required.
Its not a quick job by any means, but alot better than a touch up stick method! :happy2:
-
cheers bud for that & some good pointers. :happy2:
may start at the weekend :scared:

Hi
Going to do this to mine over the next few weekends.
On the paint supplier page there is an option of an Aerosol or a Solvent.

Which would be the best to get?
Thanks
