What's the recommended oil to use on the Ed30?
Cheers :happy2:
-
Castrol EDGE 5W30
-
Quantum Longlife 3 5W30
Simply, as long as you used a VW approved 5W30 longlife 3 oil youll be fine
-
Millers cfs 5w40 competition oil for me. You don't have to stick to longlife if you are out of warranty as there are much better oils out there.
-
Castrol EDGE 5W30
same for me :happy2:

I use this stuff too :happy2:

Cheers for your responses chaps.
The car itself will do no more than 5k per year so no need for longlife. The Ed30 comes with a 1 year warranty and I will be transferring the service plan across from the Scirocco.
In between servicing I'll change the oil myself me thinks.

Don't VW recommend Longlife regardless of what service schedule you follow?
-
I believe they use LL oil regardless as it's fully synthetic. The magic numbers to look for are VW 504/507.

When at VW last week I thought the same when I told them approx how many miles I'd be doing. However, they said no need , interesting?
As this is my first Mk5 Golf I think I'll take the advice of you guys as you've lived with them for some time now and know what works. Plus there will be no harm in using longlife?
When researching the ideal oil for a high stung 20vT there was so many differentiating suggestions on the GolfGTI forum, was difficult to know which oil to go with and it seemed that different VW dealers recommended different oils? I ended up going for the Quantum OEM recommended stuff.
Thanks again guys for your input

Castrol Edge 5W 30!
Got some this morning, it's on offer at Halfords £37.59!!, normally £46.99 (4 Litre), and if you have a Halfords trade card, even cheaper.
-
Castrol edge £33 from ECP with free delivery :happy2:

There's a difference between Longlife servicing and Longlife oil. No GTI should ever be on longlife servicing but they should all have longlife oil. I pay extra for it when servicing (even if I shouldn't have to).
-
At work when we service people's cars (VW) we have to print a service sheet off telling you what needs to be done on current miles (hso audit reasons I think) on this sheet it tells you what oil to use
We use longlife oil on most cars without customers requesting it
Have to use longlife oil on the fixed price servicing too (10k/1 year intervals) it means a little less profit but it keeps peoples cars the way they should be
It's a shame that some dealers don't do as there meant to :fighting: and put profit before loyalty and satisfaction! :drinking:
-
Ok then. Based on the info above I'll opt for longlife oil when servicing.
Cheers Stealth & Jack

I got 4 litres from Asda recently for £30

Think ASDA may be a point of call next time possibly, though haven't seen it in my local branch.
