Was driving home after picking up flowers for mum, on the turn going onto my road, gently accelerated, engine revs go up, car keeps slowing down, PRNDS flashing. Turned car off twice, turned it on again, CEL on, selected gear is normal, gingerly went the rest of the way home (300 metres), as I was turning into the drive, PRNDS flash and loss of drive again. Put it into P, wait a few minutes (didn't turn it off), everything selectable again.
My guess is either a bad mechatronic unit or a fault because I let it roll a little in P on a slight incline as I was leaving the flower shop. I'll have it in the workshop on Monday, just a bit nervous about the motorway journey on the way there...
Anyone else got experience with this? Red had a PRNDS as well as I recall.
Also, warranty finish long time. Anyone got any idea how much it'd be to fork out for a new mechatronic?

wasn't this a really big fault on Audi's etc ?, remember seeing something about it on watchdog ?

yes it was blue is right, this link might help http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/155171/1025629.aspx#1025629 hope its nothing too serious mate as it sounds like it could be costly :scared:

That's the main reason I stayed away from DSG. But RR, as he will tell you, has clocked up over 40k and still no problems with DSG.

Yipes, that can get quite expensive quite quick :/ with any luck it's just a software fault (or even just a mecha control unit, I can get that).

I've done 82k on my car so far without any ill issues. This is the first "ohsh*t" problem I've had. RR had his mechantronic unit replaced after 20-30k as I recall.

Really? I don't remember that...... :indifferent:

I think it was even less that 20K

Tis true...

I tell you the damn car is a money pit. I've got too many expensive hobbies as it is...

Thanks. Seems kind of like my problem but no loud pop beforehand. I'll get it dealer'd on Monday and will do some very gentle local driving tomorrow with my brother following.
-
I've had this - the gearbox displays PRNDS flashing when it has gone into limp home mode. It is caused by one of the sensors not being happy and isn't always a sign something big has gone.
When mine did it I had it checked out and there was no fault - my driving had just tripped a sensor. That was 6K ago at 2.5K and no issues since.
They told me that to reset the gearbox turn the car off and lock it ... wait 30 secs and re-enter car + re start and all should be Ok. Allegedly turning it off and locking it tells the car a period of driving is over and the gearbox sensors reset. This all assumes there is no underlying problem. I don't know if the 'fix' works as the car has behaved since .....
The dealer has software to check out every bit of the DSG so best to take it in. The checks take a while but hopefully will sort whatever it is.

Aha, that makes a bit of sense. I (very gently) took the car on a drive today with my brother following, just in case. Behaved absolutely fine, only sign that something was up was the CEL. When I turned it off and on yesterday and the fault recurred, I didn't get out and lock the car. Now she's sat for a night and I've got back in she was behaving herself.
I'll still take her in tomorrow to get checked out, and might suggest they recalibrate the DSG anyway.
-
....
Yes, I had the flashing PRNDS at about 6k miles. I solved it by switching off ignition, getting out of the car, locking it, walking away and coming back with the belief that all would be OK - It was!! VW now suggest the same and probably based on my report to them. They replaced the Mechatronics Module anyway under warranty.
At 63k miles (57k after the problem) all is well.
-
Car is at VW now, being intensly scrutinised no doubt. She's behaving herself impecably, if it weren't for the EWL I'd think I was going mad.

I expect that you already know that anything to do with DSG and Mechatronics Module is automatically bumped up a level to VW UK and the dealers don't carry any stock of DSG parts.
-
Yip, i'm aware, which is why I'm hastily arranging insurance on my brother's Polo if it is more than just a software fault.
-
Update: It's not mecha or anything expensive like that, it's a sporadic fault with the selector lever (not the gearknob btw, but the actual lever). The fault that occured on Friday seems to be due to my letting it roll a bit in P on an incline, the computer got confused and decided to curl up and hide (hence the loss of drive). Replacement part is around £400, but as it's sporadic (and the first time it's occured) they've suggested just keeping an eye on it and they'll only change the part if it happens again. I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious.
I did notice after my accident last year that it didn't lock into reverse as positively.

Glad to hear it's not a major problem
Very useful info for us all with DSG's :happy2:

Ultrafail:
Was driving to work with my confidence restored. 50mph on a single lane A-road, flashing PRNDS all of a sudden, loss of power, traffic behind, traffic in front. Hazards on, coast to the side of the road, onto the pavement, power off.
Key won't come out. sh*t.
Try to turning the car on again. No engine turn, just that horrible flashing PRNDS. Doublesh*t.
Eventually after much cursing and pusing of the button on the knob, the lever locked into P and I was able to restart the car.
Gently get back onto the road and start making my way to VW, having called work to say I'll be late.
Whilst I'm driving along again, PRNDS flash, car coasts, but then picks up all by itself again. Behaves itself all the way to VW, and no CEL.
Presume it's still a problem with the position sensor on the lever; will probably warrant the replacement now as it could've been quite hairy if it'd lost power on the motorway.

Oh SH!T !! So sorry to hear this, mate - At least no-one hurt etc.
Machines, eh?
-
ooo not nice , at least it means you can push for a resolution :happy2:

Machines, eh?
They're as bad as wimmun...
Just got off the phone with VW, they have recommended replacing the selector lever and as best practice also the brake switch. Total cost of £490-ish, they're not charging me for labour which is nice of them. Hopefully I'll get the car back tomorrow in the evening, which means a quick phone call to Adrian Flux to see if they can transfer my insurance to my brother's Polo for the day.

-
Hope it goes without incident tomorrow.
