So I was looking at getting an MDI until i stumbled across the armrest ipod dock.
Seems a pretty reasonable price but Never seen them. Anyone got experience with this bit of kit?
Any help would be much appreciated

That will fit if you already have a cd changer in the arm rest that you'll have to swap over. If you don't then it won't fit.
-
Armrest just now is completely standard.
Looking to get the use of my pod without going down the routes of plug and play through the 12v.

If you have a head unit that supports MDI, definitely get it over the iPod dock. The iPod dock doesn't charge new iPods nor does it allow full control with track names
-
Id prefer the MDI but after speaking with a few folk they said it probably wont work. But then some are saying it will.
Its an 07 mk5 Ive got.

You can get a ipod lead from HU to the standard arm rest, I have one in mine

You'll need an RNS510 RNS310 RCD310 or RCD510 for it to work

Dave Sounds good mate can you point me in the right direction?
Alex cheers for the heads up also much appreciated.

my ipod connection sits in glove box. Dont know if its been retro fitted or not. Unable to see track names but just uses the 6 cd buttons as the playlists.
-
If you have the arm rest with the standard plastic you will need to change it and run the lead to the back of the stereo to use it, you will also need to change the air vent pipe to a cd changer version rather than cooled compartment version. So a bit of work but nothing too taxing if you have a reasonable skill level and some patience.
If you do decide to go down that route I have just removed my ipod dock in place of a CD changer so if you want it you can have it for £40 I have the different ipod adapters and even the manual for it somewhere to go in the log book.

Been having a look at the RCD310 and 510 the now. I dunno whether to go the full bhunna or whether to do it with just the dock.
Appreciate all the help guys totally new to all this so thanks for your patience.

Im of the same thought when looking at potential cars. If i get RNS510 nav unit, would i really need MDI or dock in the armrest.
So many options im getting confused...
Good luck :signLOL:

If you are getting an RNS510, id definately stump up the extra for an MDI. the iPod dock in the armrest is false economy with the Generation 3 head units
-
I would have to agree with Alex, I had it with my RNS and didnt use it why have limited playlists if you can have 20GB of mp3 on the unit itself with full control and track names! I needed it to fill a hole in my armrest and have now switched to a cd changer.
-
I went from the 6CD changer to an iPod dock as was spending a fortune on blank cd's but as it doesn't charge your iPod and the iPhone is a tight fit it's gonna go when I get the RNS 510 and have an MDI installed as then it gets full control
Also it only plays your 5 of your playlists and then 99 random songs as the 6th"cd"... It's ok for a temp solution but MDI is the better option

I bought an RNS 510 off Darren about 18 months ago, and also had an MDI kit that goes in the glovebox, I paid about £120 for it. Charges my Ipod, and I get full track selection with it. Just plugs into the back of the stereo. Not sure if it would work with an RCD300 or any of the more basic units.
-
mdi kits only work on the newer head units rcs310 , 510 , rns310 510 ect
-
Where is the best place to source MDI units & rns510 nav apart from ebay or classifieds
-
The man who posted above you sells the MDI kit (demon666)
As for the RNS there's a few who can get hold of them, can't remember the names atm

cheers Nodz :happy2:
